Yamato the Great
ABOUT
"I am impelled, not to squeak like a grateful and apologetic mouse, but to roar like a lion out of pride in my profession."
With a name like Yamato the Great, it's no surprise that Yamato has a very stern, serious, and distanced personality that he feels is fitting for a pack leader. Yamato is a man that cares for two things: his needs being taken care of and fighting the occasional feral. Well...I guess he also cares about his owners, but he refuses to show that fondness around others. After all, he does have a image to keep up! Whenever Yamato loses his temper, it's often in a goofy and exaggerated comical manner that result in you pecking in whatever Pokemon happens to be nearby you. Due to that embrassment and his pride, Yamato is the type to choose to maintain a quiet solemnity rather than outwardly express his emotions. In his eyes, Yamatos like to believe (to a degree) that your emotions can hinder your judgement as a pack leader. While Yamato does have his moments of kindness and care, he can come off as a very blunt and cold person, especially when he is trying to get his point across in stiuations that he feels requires his attention and upmost care.
DESIGN
Design Notes
- He tends to keep his Leftovers tangled on the fins on the back of his neck.
- His feathers appears to be more on the fluffier side akin to that of a baby penguin.
- There is a slight crack on the left side of his beak that is gradually healing over the years.
- He is able to expand the fin on his head higher to resemble a crest of a Empoleon.
BACKGROUND
The Story Of The King
In the world of Tellus, there exist two major species of Pokémon that exist. For this section, we are focusing on the two prominent ones: Decorous and Feral. The decorous are the type of Pokémon that can be regarded as being the "humans" of the world. They have their own civilizations, carry a level of intelligence higher than Feral, carry the complex reasoning and introspection. Decorous are complex and bear resemblance to that of Pokémon we know and love. Ferals are the opposites. Most often refer to them as the being "animals" and "monsters" of the world. They are either slayed for their material/prevent them from harming others, respected as beings of nature or domesticated to the point they become pets. Yamato is the latter.
Born to a son of a Empoleon Feral [Emperte] and a Vaporeon Feral [Aquali], Yamato was sent by Apollo's mother as a gift to him at receiving the news that he was going to move into apartment by himself. The female realized how lonely the boy was going to be and felt having a feral could combat that. Apollo would be very appreciative to have the then-Piplup by his side even if Yamato was a prideful motherfucker. It took a few months for Yamato to eventually warm up to Apollo. However, when he did, he was quick to accept the other avian as member of his pack. He made it his mission to evolve and grow stronger in other to better protect his owner at all cost. Eventually, he would add Nova and Alister into his personal pack when the two would build a bond with his owner. Of course, it took time...but hey. It was worth it in the end.
RELATIONSHIPS
Does Yamato enjoy being pampered by Alister? Yes. Is this the main reason why he's fond of the snake? Absolutely. Will he kill for him? You best believe he will.
While Yamato won't admit, he does care very deeply about Apollo to the point that he rarely leaves his side. While he's not clingy towards the bird, he makes it his mission to check on him.
While she might be the "evil child of doom" in his eyes, Yamato acts as a pretty good guardian for Nova. Someone has to be there to make sure she doesn't get into bullshit.
Yamato tolerates the rabbit. He doesn't hate him. He doesn't like him. However, he respects him enough to not attack him on sight or stare at him menacingly.
Yamato wasn't intially a fan of Ronin, given his knowledge of the frog hurting his owner. However, he learned to let his hatred go and tolerate him.
Yamato likes to call Jasper the demon feral from hell as Jasper likes to make it his mission to get on his nerves. He makes it his mission to peck the shit out of the other feral in hopes he learns.
Curse this bird's inability to not be mean to a child espesically one with trauma. Finn is one of the few Pokemon that Yamato is willing to show affection to more visibly.
Why can't the evil kids of doom be more of a pest? It will be so easy for Yamato to be mean to them if they weren't filled with trauma and a bit of innocence.
How can someone so beautiful just...exist? It wasn't apart of Yamato's agenda to fall in love with someone as wonderful as Sophia? The painful part is not knowing what will be enough to woo her.

TRIVIA
- Yamato's colors were based on a modified version of a old melan Empoleon on PFQ.
- If Yamato had a canon voice, he would sound like this.
- I don't quite remember the inspiration for Yamato's design as I more or less just gave the designer free reign to do whatever with him outside of the colors.
- It wasn't until recently I changed the species of one of his parents to play off why he looks the way he does.
