Constantly feeling like the black sheep of his family, Celeuxe is determined to be recognized as the strongest person in any room. Aggressive and quick-tempered, people tend to be intimidated by him. 02 — Personality

Headstrong, reckless, and a bit too angry for his own good, Celeuxe has always been intimidating at best -- and terrifying at worst, particularly to people that he genuinely dislikes. He has a short temper, lashing out at anybody who manages to piss him off. A lot of people piss him off: people who think they're better than him, people who talk like they're better than him, people who said something weird with the implication that they're better than him... and so on. Given how naturally rude he is and how jokes tend to fly completely over his head, it's no surprise that he attracts the 'wrong crowd,' making few friends and even fewer acquaintances. People tend to avoid approaching him at all, in fear of getting on his bad side right off the bat.

Celeuxe rarely seems like he cares about other people's opinions; he typically says the first thing on his mind, no matter how insulting it might be. He demands respect from everybody he talks to, no matter how little it might seem like he actually deserves it. It's common for him to be the loudest person in the room, being the center of attention just because of the volume of his voice and the casual, lackadaisical way that he tends to approach other people. For how much he hates being looked down upon, Celeuxe certainly acts like he's better than the people around him. He's incredibly confident in his own abilities, feeling highly insulted every time someone dares to challenge him or question whether or not he's all that he's cracked up to be.

Most of Celeuxe's brazen behavior, however, is put up as a shield for his own insecurities. Having been born to a high-class family of espers, Celeuxe has always been looked down upon for not having the same natural powers as the rest of his family. Desperate for approval (and desperate not to be looked down upon for somehow being "weak"), Celeuxe trains for hours every day, putting on a tough mask so that he can be feared and respected rather than scorned and sneered at. Underneath all his blustering, he still does have a heart; it truly does make him feel guilty whenever somebody cries or is hurt by something that he's said. Celeuxe might be hesitant about it, but he does sometimes apologize. You just won't catch him doing it often, given how afraid he is of ever coming off as soft.

03 — Background

Past

Born out of wedlock to an anonymous Otherworlder mother and a well-known, high-class human father, Celeuxe has always felt like the black sheep in his family. In order to quickly sweep the affair under the rug, his father's family paid his mother to hand over custody of the child and subsequently leave their lives, going no-contact both with Celeuxe and Celeuxe's father. Celeuxe grew up entirely in the clutches of his father's family. Even though he was the only child his father had, he never felt like he'd truly belonged -- no matter how many times his family assured him that he was just as much his father's child as he was his mother's.

It was blatantly obvious to him, even at a young age, that he didn't look like the other humans taking care of him and the other cousins that he would sometimes have around the house; it became even more obvious, as he grew up, that he hadn't inherited the natural ability to control essence on his own. Neither human nor esper, as a child, Celeuxe would often cling to his father, hoping desperately that he was just a late bloomer. He admired his father's class and effortless power, while blaming his mother both for giving him up and for stopping him from being an esper at birth. The fact that his mother never even tried to reach out to him only worsened his hatred. Celeuxe felt like, if she had really cared about him at all, she would've tried to find a way around the deal that she struck with the Reivine family.

As a result, Celeuxe has been endlessly training in order to prove that he can be better than the other members of his family. Even before he was old enough to start using EQE, he would get into fights with anybody who looked at him the wrong way, daring them to challenge him for being a "defect." He would spend hours at the gym, hours studying weapon manuals and mechanics, taking classes just so that he could learn different fighting styles and how to use or make different types of weapons. If he couldn't be respected at first glance, he could at least be feared -- and the respect would naturally flow from that, afterwards.

The moment that Celeuxe turned 18, he immediately decided to implant an EQE bracelet on his wrist and enroll himself in new fighting classes, trying to emulate the effortless essence use that he'd seen from his father when he was younger. While he was never a good student academically, he excelled in all the sports he tried during high school (even though he was certainly reprimanded more than a few times for being too aggressive on the court), managing to get into college with a sports scholarship for an EQE Engineering degree.

It was in college that Celeuxe would meet his main friend group: Dioe, his best friend that carries him through his academic classes; Jaime, his eternal rival ever since they'd met in taekwondo class when he was a child; Lisza, who always tries to run away from him whenever they're alone together; and Yumeno, who introduces him to music that constantly blows his mind. Celeuxe, Yumeno, and Jaime would combine their musical talents together to form the rock band, Grimwreck, playing at local venues around their college campus. In time, the five of them would end up applying to the Virion Project together as interns -- Celeuxe being dragged along not because he needed something that looked good on his resumé ("Who gives a fuck about my resumé?"), but because he wanted a chance to prove himself as part of what he saw as their division exclusively dedicated to beating shit up.

Virion Project

From day one, Celeuxe thought that so much about the Containment Division was -- stupid, to put it lightly. Set's constant critique and the way she always stuck to the rules was stupid. The fact that Jaime was in his division, constantly taunting him with how happy she seemed to be, was stupid. The fact that so much of their time was spent in training, running faux missions and procedures and sparring with each other rather than actually out on the field, was stupid. It didn't matter that he was so young, compared to most of the other members of the Virion Project. He could handle himself! He'd been training his whole life to do so!

Over time, though, Celeuxe begrudgingly started to find more and more fulfillment in his work -- something that he didn't think he'd ever find, given how much of a misfit he felt like he was when he was a child and even when he was in college. Juggling between his responsibilities at school (which he skips half the time, even though he still has to show up for tests), playing college-level hockey, practicing for his band, finding time to keep building and improving his weapons, and showing up for his internship (semi on-time) is certainly more than enough work to stop him from getting bored, at the very least. It's certainly better than staying at home all the time, even if he'll admit that Set's reticent nervousness about some disaster that she seems to be sensing on the horizon puts him on edge at times. Since when has Set ever been the kind of person to be scared of anything?

Fighting Style

Celeuxe is skilled with hand-to-hand combat and a variety of different, fantasy-esque melee weapons: maces, axes, swords, and so on. His primary weapon is a custom-made gunscythe, which he designed and forged himself. Named the "God Shatterer," it's designed with EQE technology embedded in its handle that channels essence from the user directly through the weapon itself, allowing it to both fire bullets imbued with essence and serve as an "extension" of Celeuxe's own essence use, easily cutting through even the toughest rock the way a knife cuts through butter. When it's being used as a gun, Celeuxe digs the larger blade of the scythe into the ground to lessen the recoil from the weapon being fired; the bullets leave sonar wave explosions on impact, ripping through whatever they embed themselves into.

He uses his Terra essence both defensively and offensively, being able to both hurl large rocks and boulders towards his opponents and throw up rock walls in front of and around him, when necessary. His essence use intensifies with emotion; he often leaves craters in the ground whenever he's fighting or knocks his opponents off-balance by unconsciously making the earth shake every time his feet hit the ground. While Celeuxe relies more heavily on his weaponry, most of the time, he wields essence the same way that a natural esper would -- having trained with an EQE implant the second he turned of-age.

04 — Trivia

  • He's the guitarist for the band that he formed with Jaime and Yumeno, named Grimwreck. He has an axe guitar that he always has to replace the strings of, given how aggressively he plays it.

  • He's experienced with using a lot of different weapons, but his favorite is his scythe, which he designed and built himself. It has EQE technology embedded into it that lets it channel essence. Celeuxe calls it the "God Shatterer," or "GodShat" for short.

  • Plays a lot of FPS games and multiplayer shooters. It's really easy for him to get tilted -- both at his own team and at the enemy team, especially when he gets killed repeatedly.

  • Blasts a lot of rock and metal music in his room, playing along with his axe guitar even when he's not practicing for a concert. It can almost always be heard through the walls of his dormitory, sometimes even shaking the ground and the walls and causing other students to come knock on his door and complain.

  • Has failed his driving test multiple times. It's not because he doesn't know how to drive, it's because he always takes the practical part of the exam way too aggressively. He's had road rage in front of his instructors.

  • It's easy to tell whenever Celeuxe is mad. He stomps around, shaking the ground and leaving small craters in his wake (because of his powers as a terra EQE user).

05 — Relationships

jaime.gif
childhood rival

"She's so happy-fucking-go-lucky all the time. Like seriously, how's anyone supposed to take her seriously whenever she's dancing around and like, iunno, taking selfies all the time?! I gotta admit that she's a good fighter, though... goddammit."

Celeuxe has never forgiven Jaime for beating his ass when they were taking taekwondo classes, having been put together as sparring partners when they were children. He's made it his life goal since then to be stronger than her, no matter what it takes.

While Celeuxe still sees Jaime as his greatest rival, he has to admit that the pure embarrassment and hatred that he felt for her as a kid has mellowed out, especially now that they're college friends in the same Virion Project division. He still won't hesitate to challenge her to a fight whenever he gets the chance, but he reluctantly respects Jaime for her strength (and how funny some of her casual quips can be whenever they're together).

yumeno.gif
college friend

"Have you ever read the fucking lyrics she writes? That's some powerful shit, right there. Heh, she always acts so nervous whenever she's around the rest of us, though. I don't think it's even my problem, that's just how she is."

While Celeuxe would never count on Yumeno in the middle of a fight -- there are times, if he's being honest, where he questions why somebody like Yumeno would ever join the Containment division in the first place -- he can't help but admit that Yumeno gets it. They like the same music, they like the same bands, they appreciate the powerful statement that a black/red social media theme and a deep, dark quote in your bio can make. Celeuxe finds it fun to talk with Yumeno -- as long as she doesn't go on one of her long rants about Hamlet or Othello or whatever the fuck. She should know that Celeuxe didn't read that book (or any book) when they were in high school English.

set.gif
SET
boss

"She's such a motherfucking bastard -- and that's coming from one. I can't stand it. What stick was shoved up her ass when she was born?! She's lucky that I can't lose my fucking job right now or I'd seriously start even more fights than I already do, I don't give a FUCK."

Ever since they met, Celeuxe has always had the strange, creeping suspicion that Set didn't like him. Set was always berating him, critiquing him for his form, getting him in trouble for cutting corners or skipping safety procedure, whatever, who cares? It was somewhat of a relief to him when he realized that Set just acted like that towards everyone... but it wasn't enough of a relief for Celeuxe not to constantly keep yelling at her and challenging her to fights whenever Set told him off.

There's still a small part of him -- that he'd never admit to -- that feels a rush of satisfaction whenever Set praises something that he's done. He finds it too embarrassing to ever talk about, though.
