02 — Personality

Jaime is always the life of the party: the person breaking it down on the middle of the dance floor, the person that makes friends with strangers over a yelled conversation in the bathroom, the person that stuns the room with her sense of fashion and her bright, vibrant personality. Incredibly energetic and highly personable, almost everybody who's met Jaime considers her to be at least a friend. She regularly checks up on even her most distant acquaintances, wanting her circles to be as large as possible. Half of the time, admittedly, it's just because she wants somebody new to talk to. She genuinely does care about the well-being of others, though. Jaime's the type of person to never forget a name or a birthday, regularly telling people that she loves them and inviting them to hang out with her whenever she gets the chance.

She has the tendency to be a bit impulsive, constantly wanting new stimulation and never wanting to feel like she's being unproductive. Jaime feels like she's almost always on her feet, whether she's dancing, exercising, or on her way to her next social activity. She packs her schedule, making sure that there's never a second where she's bored. This sometimes leads to her trying new, dangerous things no matter how risky she knows that they are, just for the sake of getting some kind of adrenaline rush. While she tries to avoid doing anything that's outright illegal, Jaime will laughingly admit that she breaks the rules from time to time -- just because she finds them to be boring or unreasonable. She's typically reined in by the fact that she has to act as a role model for the teens that look up to her, but she'd be lying if she said that she didn't consider acting out of line, from time to time.

Despite how friendly she might be -- and how much physical affection she showers onto others -- it's wise not to underestimate her. Whenever she or the people she cares about are being threatened, Jaime is always the first on the scene; she's incredibly strong and highly protective, often being seen by her friends as a big sister figure. Kind and empathetic, she tends to take on a more motherly tone with people who are younger than her, teasing them and taking care of them the way that you would a younger niece or nephew. At the same time, though, she can be sassy and sarcastic whenever she's around people her age. It's hard for people not to smile around her, just because of how brightly she shines.

03 — Background

Past

Jaime grew up in an isolated settlement of Otherworlders, far away from any major cities and separate from any humans and EQE technology, in general. She was always familiar with everybody in her town, given how small it was: she would roughhouse with the other children, show up uninvited to the houses of her family friends, and be taught how to fight and hunt by all the adults in her life. The only exposure that she had to humans, espers, and essence use was through the screen of her phone. She loved watching movies, scrolling social media, browsing TikTok -- and, even as a grade schooler, dreamed of one day being as popular as the many makeup and fashion idols that she followed, even though she never had the chance to buy any of the designer clothing that they seemed to always have access to.

Forced to dorm and go to high school in the nearest city -- Atriven City -- Jaime bid a tearful goodbye to her parents when she was 13... only to immediately become enchanted with the life that she was suddenly exposed to. It was her first time seeing both humans and Otherworlders living in the same place, with both using the magic from her storybooks that she'd always thought to be fictional. She loved how many new people she got to talk to every day at school, all the different clothing stores that she got to pass by on her walks, and even the fights that sometimes would break out in the alleyways and at school. Everything was stimulating, in a way that her original town had never been.

Jaime knew, immediately, that this was where she wanted to live when she grew up. She spent most of her high school years taking dance and martial arts classes, finding excuses to go on food trips with her friends, and growing her social media following... but she never neglected the fact that she would have to be accepted to a college in the city if she wanted to stay there. While she hated writing every single one of her college applications, she would eventually make it into a physical education program, aiming to be a physiotherapist once she managed to graduate. Even though her parents were reluctant to let her go for another four years, Jaime promised that she would make her family and town proud, being one of the few members of her town that ever managed to make it in the city at all.

In college, Jaime would form close bonds with the members of her main friend group: Celeuxe, her favorite sparring partner when the two of them took taekwondo classes together; Lisza, who she's constantly encouraging to step out of her comfort zone; Dioe, who she's determined to become best friends with; and Yumeno, who she always dotes on whenever she can get her hands on them. Jaime was the first person who proposed that she, Celeuxe, and Yumeno combine their talents and form the band Grimwreck, constantly advertising for the group on her social media pages whenever they have a concert coming up. Wanting a bit more extra spending money, though, she would convince everybody to apply to the Virion Project with her as interns. It wouldn't be as much fun if she was doing it alone, of course.

Virion Project

Jaime loved everything about the Virion Project: it was a good cause, it was a good source of pay, it was a great way for her to brush up on her martial arts skills and fighting styles, and it was an excuse for her to find a way to make her outfit both fashionable and practical every time she had to show up for work. Her division head, Set, clearly knew what she was doing -- even though Jaime thought that she could be a bit of a stick in the mud, at times. It was Jaime's idea to invite Set out to see them perform (to Yumeno's horror and Celeuxe's disbelief)... and Jaime's convincing that led Set to eventually start setting up Excel sheets so that they could actually start tracking their audience turnouts and profits. It's her goal to make the Containment Division feel like a group of friends, rather than a strict workplace.

While she's never quite been afraid of being hurt whenever she's out on a mission, Jaime can't help but feel a strange sense of foreboding, given how the state of the Vessels that she battles with have visibly degraded over the short period of time that she's been working for the Project. Set assures them that it's a "low point" -- whatever that might mean -- but Dioe and Lisza's reports seem to point towards the fact that something's worsening. Jaime redirects any of her nervousness towards fighting harder, dancing faster, and dreaming up the next hangout plans she has with her best friends. No point worrying about something that she's not quite sure exists, after all.

Fighting Style

Jaime is incredibly physically fit, being able to suplex most grown adults with ease (particularly given the strength that she has in all four arms combined). She's skilled in martial arts and hand-to-hand combat, having learned many different styles of fighting when she was in high school. Her primary weapon consists of a set of four arnis sticks with retractable blades, each of which she wields with one of her arms; the ends of two sticks can be connected together to make a longer double-bladed spear. Each of these sticks has EQE technology embedded into them, allowing Jaime to use them as an "extension" of her own essence; she can form scythe-like blades of wind from the ends of each of her sticks.

While Jaime could, theoretically, channel electricity or wind through her arnis sticks, she primarily uses her Aero essence to make her lighter on her feet, channeling the air around her to steady her so that she never loses her balance. She tends to generate tailwinds around her, allowing her to move faster and strike opponents with her sticks faster than they can track her movements, while increasing the impact and force driving each of her strikes. Combined with her natural strength, many of her attacks -- at full power -- are enough to break bone.

04 — Trivia

  • She's the drummer for the band that she formed with Celeuxe and Yumeno, named Grimwreck. Her four arms let her play the drums in configurations and rhythms that most people can't even imagine possible.

  • Jaime was raised as a carnivore, to the point where she used to eat a lot of raw meat when she was a kid. She's learning to let go of the habit, now that she's living on her own.

  • Loves playing console games like Wii Fitness, Wii Sports, and Just Dance. Anything that gets her on her feet, rather than just staring at a computer screen.

  • Even though she wears heels everywhere she goes, she never trips or loses her balance; no matter how rugged the terrain she's walking on is, it always seems like she's walking just as gracefully as she does on flat ground. Sometimes she manipulates the wind to help make it easier, but she's perfectly capable of doing it on her own.

  • Jaime's ambidextrous, and can fight with both hands. She sometimes adds dance moves into her fighting style, too, just to keep things interesting for herself and surprising for her opponents.

  • Is really popular on TikTok and Instagram. Jaime makes dance covers, "get ready with me," and fitness videos on both platforms, and always interacts positively with all her fans.

  • Loves Luna <3

05 — Relationships

celeuxe.gif
childhood friend

”Celeuxe! He can be a bit hot-headed, but I don't mind, hehe. I'm sure that I can help him cool off, one of these days. Maybe he should try focusing on something... more fun than just fighting, all the time?”

Ever since Jaime and Celeuxe were sparring partners in the same taekwondo class when they were children, Jaime has held a certain fondness for him -- respecting his strength and his drive to improve. She finds their "rivalry" to be fun and exciting, and was more than happy to finally meet him again in college.

Jaime loves it whenever Celeuxe actually accepts one of her invites to go hang out and have fun outside of school or work, knowing how focused Celeuxe is on trying to get stronger than her. No matter how much she might tease and sass Celeuxe whenever the two of them are together, she always means her words affectionately, genuinely enjoying Celeuxe's presence.

yumeno.gif
college friend

”Yumeno is so cute, isn't she? I love how much passion she has about everything she reads and works on. I think I have another training session scheduled with her later today -- can't be late for that!”

No matter how nervous Yumeno might be around Jaime, Jaime's insistent that she help pull Yumeno out of her shell, making her a better fighter despite her complete inexperience with martial arts (as compared to the rest of the Containment Division). Jaime's sure that she'll be able to help Yumeno blossom, seeing how much natural passion that she has for her singing and music and even the philosophy that Jaime pretends to understand.

It makes her proud, in an almost-sisterly way, every time she sees Yumeno unleash her true self on stage; Jaime tries to offer Yumeno as much encouragement as she needs, just so that she can see that side of Yumeno more in daily life.

set.gif
SET
band manager

"My boss can be so cool when she really wants to be. She always puts up such a cool front, but I know she loves us, deep down! We'll see if I can ever get Set to admit to that one day, though... hehe."

Jaime's the type of person to treat even authority figures like friends -- and Set's no exception to this. She's determined to help Set loosen up and stop focusing on her work all the time. It's not healthy to be that stressed for so long! Even if Set seems unreceptive to her efforts, Jaime knows that what she's doing is making a difference... or it will, if she tries hard enough at it.

There's a part of her that admires Set for being so hardworking and so obviously experienced at fighting; Jaime wants to learn everything that she can from Set while she's an intern for the Project. Making long-term friends would only make that learning process better, right?
