One of the Three Pillars of the previous generation and Fontaine's steadfast Watcher. Though her past may no longer make her cry, the Hydro Dragon seemed intent to do so in her stead.

Soleil

stern . melancholic . upright

Soleil, as one of the Three Pillars of the Collective, is considered to be one of the more polarizing entities in the Collective. Many have heard of her callous ways of dealing with tributes and other chosen sacrifices though it is attributed to her strong sense of Justice and fairness. Most, if not all, of the ones chosen have committed unforgivable crimes in her eyes, often she would watch them with a cold, stern look. Many people are terrified of her, especially those outside of Fontaine. However, many people also look up to her, as she is the one most likely to protect and keep safe of the many helpless Seekers.

Though it is said that many people find her terrifying, the opposite is said to be true as well. Many people in Fontaine are at a near-worshipping state for her, often defending her from other nay-sayers. It matters little to Soleil, as doing her job as a Watcher while managing her duties as the Chief Justice's Secretary and Assistant are her first and utmost priority. Her sense of duty and fairness often means that she would take on work that is expected, and sometimes exceeded, of her stature. She may often times be stern and lecture those who do not do their jobs but she is far harsher on herself than anybody else.

Her relationship with Yuè and Zivon does prove that she's as human as anyone else, as she often ends up being the mediator between the fights that would break out between them. More often than not, when she is reminiscing, she would say how much the fights nearly destroyed the environment that had caused her to fight both of them in retaliation of such barbaric outcome. In the end, they would bicker and insult each other, and to those outside would seem that they hate each other awfully a lot. However, very few know how close they are to each other, the insults seemingly more of an affectionate nickname than any insult that carried weight.

In contrast, Soleil is only ever soft and fond of one person--Neuvillette. The contrast she would show towards him versus how she normally is at work was enough to give people a sort of whiplash. Her often stern stare and unimpressed frown would soften and lighten in his presence, even in work mode she seemed to less likely be harsh on whichever poor man had gotten her ire that day. So, it was always best to tackle on most of the problematic cases in the presence of Neuvillette to avoid having Soleil blow up in your face.

Just like her predecessors and the other Watchers, Soleil has a commanding yet very reliable tone when it comes to ordering the Seekers around and working on the Collective side of things. It has been noted that in times where they cannot find any criminals to use as tributes, that she would personally make her way to the Opera Epiclese in order to use whatever entertaining trial that had been scheduled to stave off the Mad God's curiosity. Rather than her rather irritated and strict facet, Watcher Soleil seemed more melancholic and somber compared to the others in her stead. She does not like her job, often gritting her teeth at the injustice and unfairness of everyone's situation, so she often opt to do the bare minimum and keep everything away from her personal life.

Soleil bears no will to show off her skills nor her abilities in combat. She prefers to keep everything at bay, often only stepping in if Zivon and Yuè would go overboard or if her abilites are needed. Though she says it's to keep repairs of her dolls at bay, she probably didn't like seeing them hurt too, treating them more like children than the electro constructs they were.

trivia

Soleil's two idle animations are: Her taking off her hat to inspect it before putting it back on, suddenly her eyes would glow which then made her tip it down. The second one has her doll constructs appear floating around her, Deux tripping in midair somehow as she 'tsks' and inspects her before setting them off and they disappear.

Her English voice actor is Maureen Price and her Japanese voice actor is Sakura Ayane. Her Chinese and Korean voice actors are unlisted and uncredited.

Soleil is a huge throwback and massive shoutout/reference to Alice Margatroid from Touhou Project, with Un resembling her dolls the most.

Her entire family used to run a charity organization in cooperation with Spina di Rosula in order to to fund most of Fontaine's lower class folk. Through the shift in mantles from Callas to Navia and from Soleil to Arturia, the two organizations began to work independently from one another as Romaria's focus under Arturia went into strengthening the Fortress of Meropide.

It was revealed later that her disillusionment with the Oratrice and the Collective stemmed from her family's massacre (with the exception of Arturia, who was currently in Mondstadt at that time) due to their and her refusal for her to join the collective. She seemed much less hostile and even empathetic of Chief Justice Neuvillette despite his none-existent role and inaction towards the event.

Though later revealed that her understanding came from her knowledge of his true identity and the tears he shed for such a thing to occur (and her realization that he is as powerless to act against the mad god's will as anyone else who has no knowledge of the Collective)

She is an Electro Catalyst that has summons of three floating dolls named Un (uses a sword), Deux (uses a catalyst), Trois (uses a shield), respectively.

Though they say that she has been seen often in the Opera Epiclese, she never seemed moved by any of the trials there and has been watching them impassively. Some has even seen her eyes mostly closed during most of them.

She had only begun wearing her hat after she has been promoted to her Watcher status. At the same time, she stops wearing at Post-Sealing

Deus, her doll that uses a catalyst to heal, has said to be found floating by and even mimicing Neuvillette to the point where people speculated if Soleil was simply using it to keep an eye on him or if Neuvillette himself is attached to the cute fae-like doll.

Though many of the upperclass knew of her real name, the use of the name bestowed on her by her master was more widely known and the upperclass seemed to treat it as an open secret no one talks about. Later on, it is agreed by everyone in Fontaine that only Neuvillette is allowed to say her real name without any dire consequences.

Originally, her dolls were simply electro constructs that would poof and disappear when hit once. Tired and sad for her little familiars, she constructed doll bodies for them to keep their forms longer and more consistently even in battle.

Soleil was the middle-woman for Yuè and Zivon's constant bout of snark and fighting (though mostly she ends up fighting them both anyway in the end)

Her nickname is "The All-Seeing Madame" for her in-the-know of all the things that happen in Fontaine.

Her specialty dish is a 4 dish called "Le Soleil de la Fontaine" which is based on the free recipe you can obtain via a world quest "Quiche Lorraine". When eaten, it buffs your team with an increase in Atk, Def, and Healing Bonus by 35% with an increase in elemental resistance by 5% for 420 secs.

On her birthday, Soleil will send the player a message along with twelve Guide to Justice scrolls, her specialty dish, and ten Romaritime Flowers.

story

"For all of the masses of Fontaine to view tragedy as audiences in a play rather than humans with empathy, for even the almighty gods seemingly watching on in apathy, it seemed that the Hydro Dragon was the only one to cry for me that day. Thank you."

𖤓 Childhood rO2OAf7.gif

Édelie Romaria, born from the prestigious Romaria Clan, was a young noble lady who grew up without much suffering other than what the usual nobles would go through. Though she knew there were some secrets and affairs that her family hid from her, she bowed her head and instead focused on her younger sister, Arturia. The once large and prosperous noble elites had all but died off, leaving her small family as the last remaining members.

On a nondescript day, everyone was awoken to Édelie defending her sister from a rogue hilichurl that happened to cross their usually guarded gates. Arturia was gravely injured and was immediately sent to Mondstadt in order to ask the Church of Favonius to help heal her. Though she had fought tooth and nail, surprisingly, Édelie did not get injured as much. While people around her were praising her for her noble actions, her family seemed worried and agitated, as if she had done something she was not supposed to. On more than one occasion, she had been chastised not to do such reckless things and to keep a low down and be modest. She doesn't understand what made them fear for her but still, she quietly accepted it.

It wasn't until after once again, she had seen injustice and fought for it that she had realized she wished that she could continuously protect what's important to her from all the unfairness of this world. There, she was blessed with a Vision, as it attracted the wonder and awe of many, and the fear of her family. She was immediately sent home and her parents begged her to hide, to never agree to whatever being would ask of her, that it is better to die than to be chained up. There, Édelie felt a burning hot pain go over her body, her Vision seized from her control and a loud mocking voice echoing in her brain. She remembered watching, but not really being there at all, just seeing a man their family had known and her parents begging. The man, with bulging otherworldly eyes stared at each member of her pitiful family before he struck them down in cold blood. When he was done, he turned to face her as she stared him down, fear and helplessness from the pain and being seizing her from moving. She heard it ask her if she wanted to live and against all odds and what her parents asked of her, she said yes. The Oath settled onto her Vision as the Mad God's glee and laughter echoed in her head. The man whom she would later realize was Fontaine's Watcher, looked at her with pitying eyes. He gave her some parting words before he left her.

Later on, she would meet a lady who would clarify and teach her all she needed to know about what she has gotten herself into. As with her other apprentice, she was bestowed the name "Soleil" in order to shine light to those who cannot do so. At the same time, she met two boys whom she formed some sort of solidarity with as she promised to take down Fontaine's Watcher and claim the title for her own in order to protect the justice that seemed to lack in a nation that claimed to be one.

"A pity, truly, but under the Mad God's influence, we can only open our eyes and gaze on in contempt. Make it a goal, young lady, to go against this flow, to rebel, and perhaps... To take me down and judge me with your own sense of Justice."

❈ Ascension to a Watcher OJBkkmE.gif

During her years as a Seeker-Apprentice, Soleil was part of what will one day soon be dubbed as the legendary Three Pillars of the Collective, along with Zivon and Yuè. Her role during this time was simply as the mediator between the ever constant bouts of fighting between the two muscle-heads. Still despite how she claimed to be the weakest link, she is far stronger and much more versatile than any of her potential coherts during that time. Though it wasn't as spartan nor as easy-going as Yuè's and Zivon's own attempt at training apprentices later on, Soleil's time was neither pushed to the limits nor was her training too lax. If anything, it was Yuè's insane yet extraordinary training methods that she was pulled into that had increased her abilities and skills. The way the three had balanced each other out had pretty much evolved their somewhat calm lifestyle into what would become true geniuses that would spear-head the Second Rebellion.

She is the first among the three to be promoted as a Watcher as one day, she had finally found the courage and the correct time to confront the former Watcher of Fontaine and her family's murderer. Throughout her apprenticeship, she had learned certain rules bound to being a Watcher, including those of her own nation. The Oratrice will never judge her position fairly, as she must weigh sacrifices needed to give to the Mad God, something that no human must do. Thus, she was taught to never be found on the opposing end of someone's finger, lest she must instead end everything with a duel instead. Knowing that, Soleil had finally decided to charge Fontaine's former Watcher with the murder of her family, causing an uproar within the nation. As Neuvillette himself had promised to see things through, he was ready to judge the criminal only for him to request for a duel. As Clorinde was about to accept, Soleil herself requests to be the one to duel him, to judge him with her own beliefs of Justice. The duel was approved, and thus her final ascension began.

The duel ended with Soleil winning with just her blade, as she did not want any of her dolls to be tainted and to dirty themselves with her sins. She felt her Vision-Gaze shifted, finally unlocking her full potential and no longer worrying about the pain that comes with a backlash upon using it. Later on in a small get-together party with Zivon and Yuè, they mention how she's finally moving up and breaking away from them to which she simply scoffed, knowing that they're both due to a promotion as well. With the clinking of glass under the pale moonlight, Soleil began her first job as Fontaine's new Watcher and immediately resigned and handed the job of being the Romaria Charity Fund's President to Arturia while she takes her new position and job as Neuvillette's Secretary and Assistant.

The unfortunate side-effect of her handing her position to Arturia had made the lady question her goals and her intentions, starting a fight between the two and hereby enstranging them. Soleil knew it was for the best, to lessen the people that will be hurt when the inevitable time of her betrayal would come to light but she does question why Arturia had decided to storm the Fortress of Meropide and establish her base of operations there instead. Still, she wished her for the best, asking Neuvillette to seek Wriothesley's assistance to help in monitoring and keeping her sister safe. Though years later when she found out about their ever blooming relationship, she couldn't help but regret doing that somehow.

"So one day, you better invite us to that promised wedding of yours or you'll never stop being an Old Hag! What? Am I wrong? Whoever you marry isn't my problem, but isn't it better to have a promise of a future than the despair of the past?"

❖ A Watcher's Duty tLES2Qz.gif

Yuè's death had been a blow to all of them, more so especially towards Zivon and Soleil. He had been the strongest and the one that had carried the most burden, so his death had tremendous side effects towards the first few years. Despite that, life had moved on and she had learned to adapt. Though Zivon had focused on poking and prodding what was left of Yuè's former apprentices (now fellow Watchers), Soleil had kept herself distant, no longer wanting them or her to feel whatever loss she had felt upon her friend's demise. Even more so, seeing the face of his supposed killer and his proudest achievements would tear away whatever heart remained for the Collective.

Soleil's true ability lay in her swordsmanship, though she has rarely taken up the blade after her final duel against Fontaine's former Watcher. She had come to rely on her catalyst more, sometimes her dolls that she treat as her children. Though it is precisely why she refused to fight nowadays, as her doll constructs would find themselves fighting eagerly more than necessary and she usually ended up cleaning after them. Nowadays, the dolls are mostly there to keep her and Neuvillette company, acting more as cheerleaders and mascots more than fighting (though this does not stop them from ocassionally finding certain monsters to beat up on their own). Perhaps everything had gone stagnant and calm after Yuè's death, perhaps she and Zivon had lost their way as the supposed final Two Pillars holding the Collective together. Either way, things had remained calm up until a certain Traveler was reported by Skye to all of them.

Though she knew the kind of variable he is was dangerous and unpredictable, perhaps he could be someone who would ruin all of their carefully built up plans. However, as someone who was used to all of Yuè's unpredictable schemes, she figured it would be a shame if she didn't actually try to place such a good chess piece towards their side. Thus, began Soleil's careful steering of the Traveler to their cause, dropping hints of something being off yet never enough to form a concrete idea.

Upon the Traveler's journey, this marks the start of the mad god's activity to increase as well, forcing the Watchers to finally fight head-on and plan for the final sealing and their second rebellion. Nothing is certain but one key fact is that the Watchers are at eye of the storm.

relationships

W1COfYv.png

Significant Other

Soleil's beloved, the only one who shed tears for the tragedy of her family and who treated her with the utmost respect she craved. Neuvillette is the one person whom Soleil would soften incredibly so, as her usual stern and fierce face is usually replaced with an adoring, gentle one. She will move Teyvat for him, if he ever needs her assistance or more, at some point even thinking of giving up her Watcher duties for his safety.

17764831?1695050408

Sworn Brother

Though not quite her apprentice-mate, she and Zivon were from the same generation and had been promoted around the same time. He treated her as an easy-to-pick-on elder sister, while she looked at him with irritation. She would nag him and Yuè to be more responsible and to stop dragging everyone into their fights (with her as the collateral). Sometimes, when the moon is up high and the night is quiet, she would meet up with him and pop open a Fontainian Champaign, silently reminiscing of their missing third brother.

21720449?1695256961

Sworn Brother (deceased)

Her fellow apprentice-mate and senior brother, more often than not would scold and nag him for his absolutely ridiculous and extreme ideas. Would often tease her about no one marrying her, leaving her all alone and she would bite back with ferocity about his own loose-screw of a head an no one keeping up with him. Despite all the bicker and banter, she had genuinely felt sad and remorseful upon the news of his demise, often meeting up with Zivon sometimes to reminiscent their old days. Sometimes, she says that she can still see his Constellation twinkle and laugh at her but she coughs it up to her being tipsy.

23503211?1698848790

Enstranged Sister

Upon her cold refusal to take back the Romaria Charity Fund head position, she and Arturia had began a steady decline in their relationship and slipping further when she refused to answer any of her sister's questions with regards to their family and the man who massacred them. Upon Arturia's decision to step foot into the Fortress of Meropide as her base of operations, she bids her farewell and hoped she would not get caught up into any Collective activity.

When the truth was revealed and the Post-Sealing Arc began, Soleil slowly reached out and rebuilt their relationship as she no longer had any want nor reason to keep her sister away. Though she thought Arturia would never forgive her, knowing her circumstances made her younger sister simply long and yearn for her, slowly repairing what she had broken off. The two become close once more, through a bit more time.

23249756?1694865823

Co-mentee

Soleil more often than not admits that Arina isn't her apprentice but she still looks out for her and teaches her what she could. She berates Zivon for his too casual way of treating her but with the promise that their generation should be the last set of Watchers, why trouble her and make her life harder?

24099120?1698562196

Subordinate

Though it was but a chance of fate and her eyes reflecting of her helpless situation back then, Soleil had saved Faust and personally inducted him into the Collective proper. This in turn had earned her the most devoted and loyal fanatic she could ever think of. Though he knew she would never give her heart to him, she had to admire his continuous tenacity as her number one hype-man and loyal subordinate. The one person Soleil knew would never betray her.

24253097?1699354358

Distant Cousin

An annoying and pesky fly that had decided to one day barge in and declared herself to be the next Romaria Head. Soleil has even began funding her just to keep her out of their way. The anger point of her patience snapped when she had one-sidedly decided to 'free Neuvillette and Wriothesley from their evil clutches' and would stop at nothing to get their hearts. Possibly the only other person Soleil could not tolerate from the bottom of her heart.

Later on, upon finally opening up to each other and realizing the issues surrounding her cousin, Soleil had gone noticably softer on her (not to the extent like Arturia) and had more or less forgiven her and taken her under her wing. Despite their early misunderstandings, Soleil is simply glad to add another family member she could freely cherish and take care of, especially after the whole debacle with the Collective.

NU0BytU.png

Collegue

While she may not be as close as she is to him as her sister, she appreciates his effort in looking after her sister. However, when she learned of their blooming relationship, this appreciation turned to scrunity and even sometimes protective righteous anger, making him promise not to hurt Arturia.

8921548?1691939448

Fellow Watcher

As one of Yuè's apprentices, there is some hesitation on how to treat her. She maintains a cool facade, often trying her best to teach her some of the gravest lessons she and Yuè had to learn. Often, their disputes stem from her intimate relationship with a certain Fatui Harbinger.

9004122?1691776904

Fellow Watcher

While she does not fault Skye for his actions towards Yuè, there is a small voice in the back of her head that sounded suspiciously like Fontaine's former Watcher telling her to replace him with someone else, just as she had done so to him. This is primarily the reason why she distances herself from him, often feeling guilty for such thoughts and for even thinking of doing that to Yuè's beloved apprentice.

4c165ffadc0f12f61817a0d4d9de2fbd.png

Ame

Fellow Watcher

Their ideals clash, especially upon learning of her plans to spread the Vision Hunt Decree. As Yuè's first apprentice, there is a sense of pride Soleil couldn't help but feel coming from her, making her irritable and quite possibly jealous (as all the time spent with Yuè was limited later on). The time spent talking to her about official matters was kept to a minimum lest she and Ame break out into another argument.
