Wind & Light Magic

Yukio's Persona Baldur has two elements, though his main element is wind. Baldur can also cast insta-kill light spells, the Hama line.

Healing Magic

Yukio is one of the two best healers of SPIES, capable of healing everyone. His magic ability is weaker than Ruri's however, but he's also faster.

Battle Style

Yukio is the jack of all stats of SPIES. He has decent strength and magic, allowing him to use either. His true strength is his agility. Yukio had a stint in kendo club when he was younger so he uses a katana in combat.

About

Yukio Sanada is the youngest child of Akihiko and Minako Sanada, the younger brother of Kiyomi and Hideo Sanada. He graduated from Gekkoukan over a year prior to the beginning of the story. He is currently studying at Iwatodai University while juggling part-time jobs. He is roommates with his childhood best friend Kazuo Iori.

Yukio, unknown to the original members of SPIES, has already awakened to his Persona Baldur, three years ago. However for a couple reasons, Yukio is avoiding the trouble with Personas & Shadows. But when Kazuo ends up getting entangled in some trouble, he has no choice but to step up.

History

Yukio was born to Akihiko and Minako Sanada on May 4th, 2023. He had a fairly normal childhood. Akihiko and Minako were both rather busy, however. Unknown to him, Minako was working for the Shadow Operatives, while Akihiko sometimes worked odd hours with his work in the police force. Yukio often was babysat by Yukari, his cousin Hinata’s mother, or Chidori, who worked as a painter. As a result, he became close to Kazuo Iori, Chidori and Junpei’s son, and his cousin Hinata.

As he grew older, he was beginning to notice something. His teachers would constantly compare him to his older siblings. This made Yukio worry that he’s not enough. This began his mental comparisons to his siblings and childhood friends. It’s something that Yukio had never been able to push aside.

Yukio graduated from Gekkoukan in March 2042 but he was at a loss on what to do. Kazuo then asked him if he was interested in rooming together in an apartment. Yukio agreed, thinking that he could look into jobs to see if he could figure out what he wanted to do.

Personality

Yukio has always felt uncertain about what he wants. He has always suffered from an inferiority complex, from a young age. His older siblings seemed to have found their niches very early on in life, so Yukio couldn’t help but compare himself to that. They were charismatic, smart, athletic… all things that Yukio wasn’t. His older sister Kiyomi was considered an athletic prodigy and his brother Hideo was very intelligent, even making it into the University of Tokyo. But Yukio? He was just average. His friends seem to find their own niche, as well. Hinata has been passionate about fashion design since she was a little girl. Kazuo has been drawing since he could barely hold a penci. Satomi had her training as the Kirijo Group heir. Ruri was the local bookworm and had been writing little stories ever since elementary school. However, Yukio never really seemed to have a one talent that he was absolutely brilliant at, causing self-doubt to fester in Yukio’s mind. He knows the clock is ticking and that he needs to find something.

Despite his jealousy that his siblings and friends all had some kind of talent and he didn’t, Yukio loves his family dearly. This extends to his childhood friends, and he is especially protective of his younger cousin, Hinata. Yukio does his best to try and be there for his family and friends, because in his eyes, that’s the only thing he’s good at. He is very good at coaxing their problems out of them. He also has a tendency to get into fights when he wants to protect his friends. He is quite hotblooded and has trouble holding his tongue when he’s worked up about something.

Yukio is energetic, and despite his self-doubts lingering on his mind, is on the optimistic side. He’s well-liked because of this. He has a bit of a silver tongue, capable of charming his teachers and classmates alike. Yukio used to have a reputation at Gekkoukan for constantly switching clubs, leading to some people dismissing him as flightly and incapable of commitment. But Yukio desperately is looking for a purpose in life. He feels lost and adrift and he hates the feeling. He wants a place where he feels that he belongs.

But despite of how hard Yukio is on himself, Yukio’s strengths shine through. He is compassionate and always willing to see the best parts of his friends. He can see it, even when they bury it deep. He won’t allow them to be hard on themselves, easily capable of pointing out their strengths. He’s very outgoing and friendly, and has a big heart. His love for his family and friends is his strongest assent, his drive to awaken to his Persona in the first place.

Kazuo Iori [ best friend ]

Yukio would answer without hesitation that Kazuo is his best friend. Kazuo’s father Junpei and Minako, Yukio’s mother, have been best friends for a long time. Chidori often babysat for Yukio too, so the boys got acquainted very quickly. They're best friends and now currently roommates. They do occasionally snip at each other but they care about each other very much. While Yukio had wanted to remain out of Persona business for personal reasons, he finally changes his mind when Kazuo disappears.

Satomi Kirijo [ love interest ]

One of Yukio’s childhood friends, the daughter of his father Akihiko’s long-time friend Mitsuru. When they were younger, they spent more time with their respective best friends, but Yukio and Satomi had always gotten along. Things change with Satomi returns to Port Island after her 3-year absence. Even before he officially got involved, Yukio noticed that Satomi was feeling discouraged and often strove to cheer her up when she was feeling unconfident. As they started to spend more time together, Yukio’s feelings begin to… shift.

Hinata Arisato [ first cousin ]

Hinata is Yukio’s first cousin, Yukio’s mother Minako and Hinata’s father Minato being twin siblings. However despite that fact, Yukio had been more of an older brother to Hinata. He’s rather protective of her and given how Hinata is very disinterested in dating right now, takes on it himself to act as a buffer. On the flip side, Hinata worries a lot about Yukio, and it saddens her that Yukio can’t see the good in himself.
