Eldest child of the De Serio family, Harper has always carried a heavy burden of responsibility and expectations.
Protective, kind, and stubborn, Harper has always dreamed of joining a guard team to help protect those weaker than himself but often came to blows with his Father; Salvador, over the idea. As bull headed as they come, Harper will never give up on anything once he has his mind set on it. His stubbornness can be endearing but sometimes it can cause him to butt heads with those around him. As an adopted child of a couple who went on to have wish children, Harper has always been insecure of his place in the world and in other Kami's lives. These insecurities often manifest as an undying need to prove himself constantly, even in situations where it does not call for judgement. He needs to feel useful and wanted. While prone to emotional outbursts in his teen years, his time on the road has mellowed him out into a more calm individual but his insecurities are deep rooted, it will take more than a few weeks travelling to remove them for good.

Present
Harper had left his family home to forge his own future. After a few months on the road, he had found himself in Aurora Land's largest city - as part of its City Guard. He has found his place in the world, and though he still feels the burning urge to prove himself constantly, he is more content than he has been for years. He is still very new to the concept of city life, very much still a wide eyed country boy. He is usually accompanied by a friend or fellow member of The City Guard to keep him from getting lost.
A small part of him constantly nags and worries him about reconciling with his family - namely his Father. But Harper doesn't feel ready to do so. He feels he needs something to prove that this was the correct path for him. Until he has this something, Harper will continue to avoid his family.
History
Harper was an orphan. He has no idea what happened to his biological parents but if they are still alive they clearly didn't want him. Being abandoned at such a young age did irreparable damage to Harper’s sense of self-worth and confidence. But he did not stay long at the orphanage. Over the course of several visits, he bonded with a couple looking for a child of their own. Before he truly knew it, he was adopted.
Mercutio and Salvador doted on him every hour of the day and for a short period of time life was good. But everything was turned upside down when, one night, another child was dumped on their doorstep. Skyla was her name and of course his new parents took her in without question. Harper hated her from the start, bitter that she was absorbing some attention that he believed was meant for him. The two children butted heads repeatedly and often violently. Harper only stopped to re-evaluate himself and his behaviour after Mercutio was attacked and permanently blinded as a result of his childish rivalry with Skyla.
Just as his rivalry with his sister was beginning to temper, more new arrivals appeared. This time it was not new children to adopt. No, these were children born from the wishes of Mercutio and Salvador. Harper loved his sisters, he really did, but they all looked like they… Belonged. And he didn't. He looked nothing like any of his siblings and he began to grow distant. Before he could truly get used to this new status quo, Mercutio was attacked once more. Skyla stepped in, offering herself in Mercutio’s place, all while Harper stood by. Everyone was furious with her but she stood stubbornly by her decision. And then she was gone. His parents kept faith that she would one day return. But Harper did not share their optimism. He was certain she was dead.
Her loss fired his desire to protect others, more than he had done at home. As a child, he had an encounter with an Astral Kamishiba who told him of a guard that protected a city. And Harper never forgot that. After another fierce argument with Salvador, caused by the older Kamishiba’s hypocrisy, Harper left for good. He set out on the road, to join the guard.

Combat
Trained by both his Father and the best the City Guard has to offer, Harper is skilled in combat. His fighting style is focused more on subduing and disarming his opponent, rather than causing harm or death.
Painting
As a child, Harper adored painting and would spend many hours honing his skills. He put down his paintbrush in favour of the sword in his teen years but since moving to the city, he has since rekindled his love for art.
Animal Handling
Growing up on a farm that also acted as a part time animal rehabilitation centre, Harper quickly had to get over any fear of animals and learn how to handle them. He is fairly good at connecting with and training most animals however he does have some issues calming skittish animals.
Gardening
Far better with plants than animals, Harper used to take care of the crops until harvest day. From sowing to harvest, Harper is confident in his ability to nurture plants. This skill is somewhat useless in the city.

A beautiful suit of armour made of gold and silver plated metal with sun motifs. It was a gift from his sisters and Mercutio.

Trivia
- Harper used to be quite chubby as a child. However since he started working and training more, he is now very strong and muscular with a layer of fat over top.
- Harper loves sweets but honey candy is his favourite.
- He often forgets he is a Royal Type and hesitates touching metal objects other than his armour.
- He hates having his type brought up.
- Harper does not often talk about his family with his fellow guards and tries not to mention his upbringing at all.

The Kamishiba who raised him. Harper is eternally grateful to him for his care and teachings. But his gratitude is clouded with guilt. Guilt and regret. Of not being able to protect him. Of causing him more pain with his absence. Harper wishes to return to see his Dad, but holds back as he does not want to face his Father.

Harper’s relationship with his Father is… Complicated. When he was a child, he looked up to his Father, admired him greatly and wished to be just like him. But as he grew up, he started to butt heads a lot more with Salvador. Harper wished to train harder, do more, and protect others but Salvador wanted to shield and protect him from the world. Harper left home abruptly without amends being made. Now he actively avoids returning home and confronting Salvador.

His rival for love and attention though he would never verbally acknowledge such a fact. Harper does not blame himself for her death but he does feel guilt over his treatment of her and his refusal to see things from her point of view.

One of his parents' biological children. Pepper has always seen through him and his anger in an unnervingly accurate way. She has always been silently supportive of his goals, even when he vocally discouraged her search for Skyla.

Innocent, optimistic, and always enthusiastically happy, Echo has always been what he could never be. Harper has always wanted to protect her and keep her safe from the horrors of the world.

Othello has unfortunately been the victim of misplaced anger. His egg appeared not long after Skyla disappeared and Harper was furious at the idea of his parents replacing her so soon. Sadly that anger never really faded despite the fact the sweet young boy never really deserved it, Harper just can’t get past the idea he and Skyla could be so easily replaced.

Queen of the gossip mill, Aro knows everything about everyone - somehow. Harper has used her in the past to find out things about his parents that they don’t want to tell him. She has tried to guide his path in the past but he has often disregarded her advice.

His other Aunt is far less knowledgeable and far more boisterous. Harper has tolerated Kanaya’s rough housing but never really enjoyed it like Skyla and Echo did. Kanaya has plenty of fighting experience which could be useful to Harper if only she had morals.
