Midas IX

Midas IX (AKA Mia) - A young adult woman (she/her/they - demi) with long, perfectly ornate, golden blonde hair, fair skin, and strikingly pale blue eyes.  She is viewed as a goddess among her people not only because of her extraordinary abilities, but also her beauty, and her tall, slender appearance allows her to tower over most people.  Before she was rescued by Eris and the others, she very rarely allowed herself to show any emotion at all, and usually only ranged from peaceful stoicism to boredom, however, now that she’s free, she is the most cheerful and openly expressive of the group.

Midas is the ninth of a long line of “Midas” who have the ability to turn anything they touch into gold, aside from themselves, and they are heralded as royalty within their kingdom.  As the current Midas, she is kept in a large empty room on a gilded bed held up by golden chains and floating above a golden disk (to prevent her from accidentally turning the whole palace to gold).  She is treated like a goddess and is given anything she wants within reason, but is not allowed to leave the small space, and is used as a tool to make their kingdom even more enormously wealthy, and also to kill high-value prisoners by turning them into statues to be put on display.  She is stoic and seemingly emotionless at face-value, and rarely ever interacts with anybody, but deep inside she cares a lot about everything, and just doesn’t want to disappoint everybody by leaving her horrible life behind.  She resents her ability and wants to be treated like a normal person, but she doesn’t even really know what that means until she meets Eris and the others.  They stage her death and offer her freedom, which she gladly accepts.  She has become a lot more bubbly and outgoing since being freed, although she is still incredibly socially inept and is incapable of reading the room.  Her general aloofness and optimism means that she gets along with Anomi like a house on fire, and the two have fallen in love.

She goes by the nickname “Mia” (pronounced MY-ah) now, and often dresses in basic, masculine-leaning clothing to avoid being recognized, with the only tell being the golden gauntlets she wears to prevent her powers from causing any damage to the world around her.

Name Origin: Named after the Greek cautionary tale of King Midas, who, upon graciously hosting the god of the wild, Pan, to a 10-day feast, was granted a single wish; to turn everything he touched into gold.

Motifs: For obvious reasons, Midas is primarily associated with gold, as well as anything that is colored gold, yellow, or orange.  However, almost as prominently, Midas holds a lot of resentment (and anxiety) towards small, enclosed spaces, having to stay put for long periods of time, and her own bare hands.  Finally, she visualizes people in a very unique way; unconsciously seeing strangers as inanimate statues, and her friends as beams of light (originating from the only glimpse she had into the outside world growing up; the large sky hole above her bed.)
