About
Austin's life wasn't particularly hard in any way, and that's thanks to his wonderful family. He and his sister Betty learned all about the West (well, now North) from their parents Rudy and Cory. After growing up around stories of his parents' adventures with Aunt Ivy and Uncle Noah, he aspires to become an adventurer just like them one day.
He made it through music college to become a Jazz Agent, and he was recently recruited into a prolific jazz band. However, after hearing news of his aunt's disappearance, he put his dreams of becoming a jazz star aside to search for her. His only lead was that she recently traveled further west -- so he packed his adventuring gear, bid his family temporary goodbyes, and set off to find her.
After a week of searching without much progress, Austin begins to have strange, surreal dreams about shadowy figures. The day after having one of those dreams for the first time, he stumbles across a young woman named Tam Foolleray, who is also searching for her missing uncle. Thus, he joins her in uncovering cursed artifacts and secrets of the shadow government.

Combat
Austin enjoys adventure and music more than battle, but he has ways to repurpose his musical training to fight. He tends to stay in the back for more ranged and area attacks that both benefit his allies and take down his opponents. He has useful support capabilities, but he needs to be reminded to use them before he gets too engrossed in the music.

Austin lifts the mood of any group he's in. He was voted in high school to have the best smile, and he's maintaining that title well! He is also incredibly artful and ambitious, pouring his entire soul into his craft. He tends to deeply dislike those who only pursue a goal for material gain or to control others and pities those who live life without a passion.
He is also great at smooth talking and saying what others want to hear, but that isn't just because of his Moxie! Austin had trouble grasping the social norms when growing up (the 'tism), so he studied the behavior of others especially hard to get where he is today. Still, when he's around people he's comfortable with, he lets go of the silver tongue and tends to speak his thoughts in a more blunt manner. Tam learns about this early on when he takes her expression literally.
Because of the care from his parents, Austin has also become a very caring person himself. His high emotional sensitivity leads him to seek ways to make people feel better, though he often doesn't know the exact solution. This results in him coming off as naggy or worried, even though he means well.

- No matter how much he combs/slicks his hair, it always returns to being messy.

Trivia
- Austin used to think robots were really interesting, which is why he took the course at S.I.T. Then he quickly realized that it was way out of his field of skill.
- Although he isn't a rulebreaker, he despises being held to strict standards and craves freedom of creativity.
- He isn't a fan of fighting with weapons, but he'll use Cory's gun for the jokes and giggles.
- Even though his dedication can make him lose track of time, his parents' guidance has made good at stopping to watch himself.
- A lot of jokes and idioms fly over his head.
- He likes to give silly nicknames to his friends. He calls Tam "Tamsters" and Leah "Leifei."
- He doesn't have as strong of an accent as his parents, but he'll often say "howdy" instead of other greetings.
LINKS
Rudy, most importantly, taught his kids about connections and responsibility. Austin had always adored hearing about his dad's stories of adventuring with Ivy and Noah. He would often even imitate these stories while playing with Betty as a kid. Having grown up, he emulates his pa's lessons about reaching out for help and making friends. Still, he'll never let Rudy go about that time he didn't tuck the kids in after being trapped in an alternate dimension.
Cory path to freedom and a new life inspires Austin to live by his own standards. He was always surprised as a kid to hear that his badass mom wasn't always the cowpunching cowgirl that his dad and her friends had always talked about. He internalizes her journey when venturing off into his own adult life and making choices for himself. Cory's affinity for instruments also fostered Austin's appreciation for music from an early age!
Austin met Tam at Crystaldream Lake, where she was also searching for her Uncle Murray. Immediately, the two bonded over their similar goal and decided to continue their search together. Tam also later realizes that "Aunt Ivy" is actually her childhood hero, Ivanabe Gaye, which fuels her to help Austin even more. Austin often advises Tam against interfering with dangerous situations, but she hardly ever listens. Secretly, he also kind of wants to see what happens, even if he doesn't realize it.
Later on, after seeing the sheer amount of people Austin is friendly or acquainted with, Tam begins to reevaluate her own relationship to... well, relationships. Austin clearly has connections all around, even if he doesn't live with them. Perhaps she can learn a thing or two from him and have something of her own worth fighting for... friendship.
Leah met Tam and Austin at the Seaside Institution of Technology. She helped Tam with the cooking minor to achieve a perfect score and Austin to obtain all the extra credit in Robotechtronics. Austin greatly respects Leah's commitment to her craft, relating to her as another artist. However, he tends to worry that she's pushing herself too hard after recognizing his own destructive habits within her. Leah starts off bothered by Austin but eventually warms up to his concern.
The two are similar in that they're equally passionate in their craft, and they love listening to each other about what they do. Austin loves to talk forever to Leah about his music, and he listens just as intently about her magic. This solidarity eventually makes them very good friends.
Being the only one out of the original group to continue adventuring through the decades, Ivy was a major inspiration towards Austin through his childhood to now. Following after her footsteps, he studied Moxie in college as a Jazz Agent. Naturally, when he realized that she had been gone for longer than usual, he began to worry and started to search for her.
Ever since the twins' birth, Noah has been keen on setting a good example for the kids. Austin picked up tips on navigating through an unfamiliar world from Noah, taking his advice from when he was a fresh British immigrant. He also heard a lot of special embarrassing secrets about his dad from the time that he and Noah traveled together.
Austin is insulted that he even has to speak to someone like Terrence. He can't stand for Terrence's ego and clear heartlessness towards everyone he interacts with, and how his entire ideology stands for control and the suffocation of freedom. He sees Terrence as a soulless beast who only exploits lives for his own gains.
Austin had always been close with Betty when growing up, even to adulthood. She was his closest confidant and greatest support, as was he to her. However, when Betty was cursed with shadows a while prior to the events of SoL, the trauma from the shadows forced Betty to leave her family for their safety and live in Ocean City instead. Austin regrets not being able to help her, so after learning about the Shadow Government's involvement in the case, he becomes especially determined to take it down.
After defeating the shadows and also Henry, the twins are finally able to properly catch up in the years they have gone without seeing each other. Betty encourages Austin on his music, and Austin supports Betty's return to her normal life and clothesmaking. There's nothing to separate them anymore!
Becky looked up to their cousins as a child, and Austin set a good example in his adulthood. Austin was surprised to see Becky in Ocean City and even more surprised at their current occupation, but Becky leveraged their position in the Tin Lizzies to make a non-aggression pact with Austin and his friends. The two would spend some time after not seeing each other for a long time catching up and reaccquainting themselves.
Austin never liked Henry when first hearing of him, but he couldn't do much against it, as he was still in college during the time. After hearing about Betty's "lunacy," he grew more wary towards Henry, but he didn't know enough to truly pinpoint him. It was only during the events of SoL that he learned of Henry's involvement with the Shadow Government, and it all made sense. He vows to free Betty and kick Henry's ass together.
Austin had always liked animals, having grown up with a rancher dad and all, but he's never had a little buddy to take care of himself up until now! After completing his Botany major at S.I.T., Austin adopted Barker as his trusty plant-horror pet.
