Penelope "Penny"'s Links
Penny's relationship with Nugget started out pretty rocky, primarily because she couldn't understand how someone like Nugget had the capacity to run a league team competently. When she was having issues with the team, Penny was genuinely surprised when Nugget put his foot down and was willing to stand up for her, even though the person Nugget was standing up to was his former best friend. Penny would never admit it, but she trains hard as her way of expressing her appreciation for Nugget having her back. Alongside Skittles, she painstakingly helped both Buffalo and Nugget to muster up the courage to start dating, but this doesn't stop her from bullying them both.
Penny and Nugget go back a long way, working together at fast food restaurant "Arowana Burgers" when Nugget was a teenager. Penny worked as a manager, and the pair spent many closing shifts together, Nugget often sharing with Penny his desire to start a Splat League team.
Due to their history, Nugget was delighted when Penny attended auditions for Buffet Breakfast, and was quick to put a stop to the bullying she received from the other members. This eventually lead to the fracturing of the team, causing Nugget to fire the other two members and seeking out replacements for the new and improved Buffet Breakfast. Nugget considers Penny a very close friend of his, and since marriage to her twin brother, he likes to believe they are closer than ever.
Penny's relationship with Chester fluctuates between, "I hate his guts", "He's tolerable, I suppose", and "Don't tell anyone, but we fucked a few times". Initially Penny and Chester didn't get along at all, the other inkling's mannerisms and general behaviour grating on Penny's patience. It's common knowledge that Penny is the reason that Chester is missing one of his teeth, and it's something that she wears with pride. Nowadays the two have a friendly relationship. Penny joined his band, and the pair came to realise that the other wasn't half bad. To further the idea, Chester's father Gus and Penny's mother Diane began to date, basically forcing both Chester and Penny to interact on the regular. Additionally, Penny and Chester realised that they used to go to school together when they were children, but since both of them hated their childhood, prefer to keep that information to themselves.
When they first met in the Splat League, Chester and Penny had what could've been described as a "love-hate relationship", if that was 99% hate and 1% love, frequently getting into arguments and physical altercations. Despite this, the pair have been part of each others inner circles since the formation of the Respawn Punishers, and have a higher level of tolerance for one another than they did in their youth. This was only exacerbated by the fact Chester's father begun to date Penny's mother, forcing them into a ""loving nuclear familial relationship"".
Teri and Penny have known each other for a while, having met in a nightclub bathroom after Teri had been ostracized by her former group of friends for breaking up with Chester. Penny, admittedly incredibly wasted and not above starting shit for no reason, promptly chewed the girls out and invited Teri to drink with her. This marked the beginning of both a long friendship, and a frequent arrangement of the two sleeping together when Teri's sexual haul was less than adequate. Penny would say that Teri is one of her best friends, and has often stepped in to stop Teri going home with people that Penny knows that won't be able to satisfy the octoling's near-insatiable interests.
Penny and Skittles are undeniably close, and though Penny wouldn't admit it to anyone else, both she and Buffalo see the young inkling as their little sister. Both Skittles and Penny share the same cynical personality, and often rag on their brothers as a form of entertainment. When Nugget is too busy to look after Skittles or Skittles simply wants to get away from her big brother for a while, Penny is the first person to put her hand up to whisk Skittles away for a night on the town, or a movie binge and pizza at home.
As a former member of Adachi's gang, Penny has interacted with Spencer on many occasions. He's loud, and Penny finds him to be too domineering for her tastes. She won't hesitate to tell Spencer to shut up, and it always pleasantly surprised when he actually listens.
Penny is one of the only people who scares Spencer, and his efforts to be friendly with her are always immediately shut down. He can’t exactly place why, but when Penny tells him to ‘shut the fuck up’ he is compelled to do so.
Having met Egon at Adachi's diner, Penny didn't properly recognise who he was until Chester helpfully pointed out that Egon was Dallas's younger brother. Though not really friends with the urchin, Penny finds herself gravitating near him whenever she's at the diner, purely because Egon isn't as loud and obnoxious as the rest of Adachi's crew.
Egon has respect for people who can shut Spencer up for periods of time without the inkling setting a timer, and Penny is one of them. Knowing each other through interactions at the diner, Egon and Penny aren't particularly close, but have crossed paths from time to time. Penny is just as quiet as Egon is, and the pair can be seen sitting in companionable silence every now and again.
If you asked Camille why he hates Penny, he wouldn't be able to come up with a concrete answer. Somewhere along the line, both parties simultaneously decided that they hated each other and this becomes especially prominent when their teams verse one another. They get along in very rare instances and are quick to go back to hating each other as soon as other people are present.
