Kaetochukwu Okonogi (小此木カエトチュクウ Okonogi Kaetochukū), aka Katsu Okonogi (小此木勝 Okonogi Katsu) is a minor character in Corpse Party: Forbidden Rebirth. He is a student of Misato Municipal Brotherhood High's class 2-6, and the keyboardist for Electric Dreams.

He is a minor character in GOOD END and BAD END, and a main character in THE LOST CHAPTER.

Design

Katsu is a teenage boy of below average height, with light pink hair and rich brown eyes. His hair is curly and dyed, with it’s natural colour being black. He wears two black and white hair clips, and he has somewhat thick eyebrows. He has a temporary tattoo of a pink star on his left cheek, which he replaces before a live with his band. He usually wears pink nail polish.

His usual school uniform consists of a black gakuran jacket, an untucked white button up shirt and black slacks. Instead of brown loafers, he wears pink and white sneakers with blue laces that always seem to end up untied. He has a pink bandana with a blue cat face (known as Nyatsu) and white shapes decorating it, which he wears around his neck.

Personality

Katsu is a cutesy, kind and somewhat gullible boy from Misato Municipal Brotherhood High's class 2-6. Being an extremely shy person, he often gets flustered during conversations, especially since Japanese isn’t his first language. However, his sweet personality and adorable looks are impossible for anyone to resist, and he’s often swarmed by fans when he walks down the halls, resulting in him hiding his face in his Nyatsu bandana before fleeing. Despite this hurdle, he wants to become friends with everyone in the school and cares deeply for every single one of his fans.

It’s often said that Katsu has some sort of magical barrier surrounding him - even the most antisocial, cruel and spiteful people are taken in by his charm, and hardly anyone can ever say no to him. He isn’t aware that he has this effect on people, and it’s his naivety instead that tends to draw him towards the wrong crowd. Though he was previously teased and mocked by a few upperclassmen during his first year, his charms eventually took hold of them as well, and even they’ve become massive Katsu fanboys since then.

He’s a natural mediator without even trying to be - he can’t stand seeing people fight, and his presence often turns the attention of the conversation towards himself, making the bickering people forget what they were arguing about to begin with. There’s a noticeable shift in the atmosphere whenever he joins a conversation, one in which people set aside their own differences and stop their fighting in order to reach a compromise. Katsu himself is oblivious to these changes, and simply believes everyone around him is friends with each other.

He has a habit of taking whatever people say to him at face value, almost never recognizing when something is a joke (even when it sounds absurd) and believing many false hoaxes over the internet. As a result, his other band members often have to keep an eye on him, particularly when they go to the city - he’s been roped into strange purchases by shady sales clerks more than once, so his bandmates often act as his bodyguards to keep potential scammers from getting to him while he’s on his own.

He’s the most recent member to join Electric Dreams, having been recruited a few months into their first year of high school, and he plays the keyboard in addition to singing backup vocals on many of their songs. Though he views his contributions to the band as the smallest, especially since he had a late start, the truth is that Electric Dreams wouldn’t even exist without him. The other members always bickered over what direction to take the band, whether it was to do with their image, sound or lyrics, and it was only through Katsu’s calming personality and mediation that they were able to reach an agreement that benefited everyone equally.

Though he’s nervous and shy by nature, he becomes far more outgoing around his bandmates, and will commit to their potentially dangerous stunts with only minimal hesitation. He has a deep desire to impress each of them, particularly Mikio Fukuhara, his idol and best friend since he began attending Misato Municipal. He strives for his acknowledgement and appreciation more than anyone else’s, and will go to great lengths to assist and impress him whenever the opportunity presents itself. There’s nothing he wants more than to be praised by Mikio.

Katsu has never gotten along very well with his mother - his sensitive nature has always made him an easy target to take her frustration out on, and it often falls to his twin sister Eziamaka to break up the bullying and nitpicking. Though he isn't out as transgender to his family (with the exception of Eziamaka), their fights have only gotten worse as Katsu has gradually begun to present in a more masculine way, with the biggest blowup being when he cut his hair short after moving to Japan. His mother heavily disapproves of his involvement with Electric Dreams, often telling him that "nothing good can come from a girl hanging out with a group of boys like that."

Katsu’s real name is Kaetochukwu, a name he’s very proud of, since he selected it himself. To preserve some sense of anonymity and appeal more to a Japanese audience though, he decided to create his own stage name that was shorter and easier to read. He decided on the name Katsu (written as 勝, though often stylized in English as KATSU) from a slogan on a shirt Mikio frequently wore, as a good omen for his success in the industry. However, the other members of Electric Dreams began calling him Katsudon as a nickname, a food he’d never heard of prior to selecting his pseudonym.

Plot

Backstory
His eldest sister, Chideziri, is the 'golden child' of his family, and their mother makes it very clear who her favourite child is. She's a doctor studying treatments for infectious diseases, and her work has taken her all over the globe. Whenever she's studying somewhere or assigned to work in a new place, no matter how far away it is, their mother will pack up and move the whole family to that location, to make sure Chideziri "doesn't get lonely." Although all four siblings were born in Lagos, Nigeria, Katsu has lived in all kinds of different places throughout his life, including Los Angeles, Toronto, Vancouver, Orlando, New York, London, Dubai, Cape Town and more. Moving to Japan was the first time their mother allowed Chideziri to live on her own, 'permitting' her to live in Tokyo with Isioma while she and the twin Okonogi children stayed in Misato with their grandmother.

• His favourite colour is pink.
• His favourite foods include strawberry Pocky, strawberry ice cream, crepes, and katsudon.
  • In short, he loves strawberry anything. He’s a sucker for ‘gimmick foods’ that restaurants often create to drum up publicity, such as unicorn desserts, gold-flaked food and burgers that hardly fit in your mouth. He only tried katsudon after the other members of Electric Dreams began calling him that as a joke.
• His favourite drink is a Strawberry Frappuccino from Starbucks.
  • He’s a frequent Starbucks customer and tries every seasonal drink they add to the menu, but nothing beats his classic strawberry frappuccino.
• His least favourite foods are overly salty foods.
  • It’s not that he doesn’t like salt, but overly salty foods like chips and jerky don’t sit well with his stomach. That being said, he still enjoys salty food in moderation, just not enough to make himself sick.
• When it comes to his meal habits, he tries not to eat too much, as he always wants to watch his weight, but his sweet tooth tends to get the better of him. His grandmother is usually the one who prepares all the meals for the family, and he loves her food more than anything. That being said, he still loves going to restaurants, and he’ll always try whatever’s new or trending, even if he doesn’t end up liking it. Between his grandmother’s cooking and him constantly grabbing snacks from the school store and vending machines at Misato Municipal, he always eats well, if not a little too much.
• When it comes to his sleep habits, he needs lots of pillows to be able to sleep, but isn’t picky about his bed otherwise. He tends to feel lonely when he tries to fall asleep, so he usually dozes off hugging a pillow. He has lots of plush toys on his bed, so much so that they essentially enshrine him while he sleeps. He feels most comfortable when he’s surrounded by things, almost as though he’s in a cocoon. He tends to go to bed at a decent time, and never falls asleep in class.
• He uses the personal pronoun "boku" when referring to himself.

• Katsu's initial beta name from August 2018 was Haru (written as 春), but this was later changed to avoid confusion due to the same kanji and pronounciation being used in Mitsuharu's name.
