Tomoe Roussel-Mizuki (水姫ロウッセルともえ Mizuki Roussel Tomoe) is a major character in Corpse Party: Forbidden Rebirth. She is a student of Misato Municipal Brotherhood High's classroom 2-4, and a victim of Heavenly Host Elementary School.

Tomoe is the main protagonist of GOOD END and REVERSE END, the acting protagonist of TRUE END, the false protagonist of BAD END, and a supporting character in LOST END. She is also the reason for the existence of THE LOST CHAPTER.

Tomoe is widely considered the true protagonist of Misatoverse due to her major involvement in the narrative of each ending, and she acts as the poster character for the series.

Design

Tomoe is a teenage girl of above average height, with blonde hair and indigo eyes. Her hair is cut extremely unevenly, with many parts being too short to keep in her ponytail - however, at its' longest point, her hair reaches past her shoulders. She wears purple rimmed glasses at all times, and has a mole just under her right eye. She has a gap between her front teeth, and thick eyebrows. She often wears a purple bow, and purple earrings in the shape of stars. She typically wears purple nail polish.

Her usual school uniform consists of a prussian blue sailor fuku with a white tie and a skirt that reaches halfway down her thighs. With it, she wears purple tights with a yellow star pattern on them, as well as brown loafers.

Personality

Tomoe is a very outgoing and passionate student from Misato Municipal Brotherhood High's class 2-4. The kind of person who acts before she speaks, her movements and speech patterns are often erratic, and she’s never truly able to relax. Though her bizarre way of acting can confuse and overwhelm some, her energy is contagious and she’s able to brighten up any room as soon as she walks in. She’s a people person with a good heart, and even though she has a tendency to come across as overbearing, she wants nothing but the best for her friends.

Her overly friendly attitude can be off-putting for others, especially those who aren’t accustomed to her typical ways - the best example of this being her girlfriend, Yuma Misaki, who initially thought Tomoe was mocking her by being so nice out of nowhere. The truth is that she can’t stand conflict between others, so she tries to befriend everyone she meets, immediately calling them by their first name or making up a silly nickname for them. She rarely ever dislikes people, much less hates them, even if they have wronged her in the past - while she considers this a virtue, it’s a cycle that’s enabled others to manipulate her on multiple occasions.

She has a naturally mischievous nature and loves to play pranks on her classmates and friends. She’s obsessed with the concept of ‘gap moe’ - she wants to see all the different versions of her friends, especially the personality traits they might try to hide away. In her mind, not only is this adorable, but it also helps those around her be more honest with themselves. When she’s teamed up with classmate Akihiko Kagurazaka, the two are essentially unstoppable - though adding him to the mix occasionally causes them to take things a little too far.

Though she always has a happy face on to lighten the mood, Tomoe is actually very perceptive, especially when it comes to those in need. When in a big group, she makes it a point to check on everyone and make sure no one is left out - if she notices someone off to the side, she makes sure they’re alright and invites them into the conversation. She’s been known to be a bit pushy about it if someone resists her attempts to befriend them, but she truly just means well and wants everyone to have fun.

Due to her fixation on tarot reading and tendency to fall for paranormal-related pseudoscience and psychic readings, she’s often perceived as unintelligent by others, but this is far from the truth. In reality, Tomoe is trilingual, speaking Japanese as her first language and having picked up both English and French from her travels around Europe as a child. Her grades are on the low side, but this is solely due to her bad habit of falling asleep in class, not because she’s incapable of doing the work. Not only that, but she’s extremely knowledgeable on subjects that pique her interest, such as astronomy, video games and horror stories.

She isn’t without her faults, though - her patterns of needing to fix things and help others can be irritating for those who don’t want or need help, to the point of them occasionally lashing out at her. She doesn’t handle rejection well, often bursting into tears, which only makes the person she’s trying to help feel even worse. Even though she always forgives them, the cycle of her invading their life can be suffocating sometimes, no matter how good her intentions are.

Despite all of her strange fixations and odd quirks, Tomoe’s true calling in life is working with children. She adores kids and has been working as a babysitter-for-hire since she was 12 - what started out as a simple job for a family friend quickly skyrocketed into most of her neighbours having her look after their kids while they went out for dinner and drinks. She often cares for multiple children at a time, easily juggling each of their needs while keeping them out of trouble. Her dream is to go into childcare in the future, and hopes to adopt three children once she’s old enough and ready for a family.

Plot

Backstory
Tomoe was born in Misato into a wealthy household, consisting of her mother, who was born in Japan, and her father, who was born in France. With two large families on either side, much of her childhood was spent visiting France and other parts of Europe, which enabled her to become fluent in three languages. Her parents' wealth allowed them to travel almost anywhere they wanted, so she had already seen many parts of the world before she even started school. Despite her frequent trips out of the country, she hates airplanes, and has never gotten used to them.

Tomoe was the kind of person who was always bursting with energy and ready to help others, especially when her mother announced that she was pregnant with twin boys on her seventh birthday. She had always wanted siblings, especially younger ones, and did whatever she could to help her parents get ready for their arrival, including donating some of her own treasured stuffed animals. However, when her mother miscarried a few weeks later, she was devastated that her sibling dreams would never come true.

Although she was extremely upset, it wasn't long before she returned to school, and she tried to act as much like herself as possible so no one would worry. It was around this time that she became interested in Kokuhaku Akaboji, one of her extremely quiet classmates. Even though it was difficult to keep the conversation going, Tomoe kept pressing forward, and Kokuhaku slowly opened up to her as well. Despite their differences, they've remained friends even well into their high school years.

Late into junior high, Tomoe began to take interest in Yuma Misaki, another student who had been in the same class as her since kindergarten. Although they didn't know each other very well, Tomoe began to go out of her way to help her out with schoolwork or give her gifts. This often made Yuma extremely embarrassed, but she would always thank her later, which motivated her to keep doing things for her.

One evening after school, Tomoe was on her way out when she heard someone crying from her classroom. Peeking in, she noticed it was Yuma, holding a crumpled up assignment. She quickly tried to console her and asked what was wrong, and Yuma explained that she'd gotten a bad mark on an assignment that her mother wanted her to do well on. She vented more to her, explaining more about her poor living situation with her mother and her confidence issues, and Tomoe quietly listened through all of it. When she was done, Tomoe hugged her and told her all of the things that she loved about her. Although this started out as her just listing her favourite qualities, by the end of it, she'd outright confessed to her. After realizing what she'd said, she went to take it back in case she made her uncomfortable, but Yuma cut her off and told her she loved her too.

Although they eased into their relationship slowly, it didn't take long for them to become completely comfortable with each other, and they continued to date happily throughout the remainder of their junior high years, and even into their first year of high school. Because they lived on opposite sides of the city, it was difficult to see each other outside of school without planning, so they would call each other every night to talk and say goodnight. However, when she called Tomoe one night and told her she impulsively did something horrible to herself, she was over there on her bike in no time.

When she got there, she was relieved to find that Yuma wasn't hurt - however, she'd cut off the majority of her hair, with the remaining bit reaching just to her chin. While she tried to console her, Yuma explained that she had a meltdown and chopped it off on a whim, and was scared that everyone was going to think she was ugly and horrible now because of it. Trying to think on her feet, Tomoe reassured her that no one was going to think those things at all, and told her she thought she looked cute with short hair. She then unclipped the X shaped hair clip she always wore and fixed it into Yuma's hair, and told her she was the most beautiful girl in the world, and that all she had to do was look in the mirror and see the hair clip to remember that. Although she wasn't sure if Yuma would think it was cheesy or not, her words seemed to help console her worries, and she wore the hair clip every single day afterwards.

As she got older, it became more apparent how much Tomoe yearned for her brothers to be in her life. This sense of loss ended up helping her realize her dream of working in child care - the more she thought about them, the more she realized just how much she loved kids, and how well a role in the field would suit her. In a way, she considered it almost like making up for the time she lost with them. Although she’s known to switch her aspirations and ideas very quickly, her passion for children is one thing that has stuck with her no matter what.

Prologue
In the morning, Tomoe sent out a text to a few friends asking them to meet her in classroom 2-4 after school for a surprise. Although she had to go and round up a few people, everyone showed up plus a few extras, which was perfect for what they were going to do. Once everyone had gathered, she presented the Sachiko Ever After charm and explained its' significance to the group, before inviting them all to perform the ritual with her. The ritual involved holding a paper Sachiko doll in a circle, chanting and tearing the doll to pieces. Once everyone agreed and understood the rules, they tore apart the paper doll, and Tomoe put her scrap in her skirt pocket for safekeeping. Shortly after the ceremony, an earthquake occurred and opened a gaping hole in the floor that she and the others all fell through, leading them to Heavenly Host Elementary School.

TRUE END
A short while later, she awoke to find herself in the old, run-down school building, but was lucky enough that she wasn't alone - Yuma had landed just a few feet away from her. She shook her to wake her up, relieved that she was still alive and breathing, and the two took in their surroundings together. Tomoe didn't initially recognize the building based on appearances alone, but after reading a newspaper article she found on the ground, she knew exactly where they were - the Heavenly Host murder cases were ones she'd studied excessively. However, this information only made her more disoriented, as she knew for a fact that the school had been demolished over thirty years prior. Not wanting to tell Yuma since she knew it would scare her even more, she dropped the newspaper through one of the holes in the floor and played it off as an accident.

Although it took a bit of convincing, Tomoe got Yuma to leave the room with her so they could search for an escape route. However, they didn't get far before they encountered the bodies of six junior high students, sending Yuma into a full-on meltdown. It was then that Tomoe realized she needed to get her home as quickly as possible - she'd always been her first priority, but the students they'd found had clearly been murdered, and she couldn't let that happen to Yuma. As they explored the school, she focused all her efforts on keeping her safe and looking for an opening to get her home.

They spent a few hours wandering through the main building and checking out anything they could, but they'd made no progress in escaping. Yuma was beginning to get frustrated and scared, and she could tell, but she couldn't think of anything she could do to help. Suddenly, a large earthquake occurred, big enough to shake the whole building. Unbeknownst to them, these earthquakes enabled them to shift through the different closed spaces of Heavenly Host, and when the dust settled, the hallway they were in looked completely different than before. Eager to explore and see if anything changed, Tomoe led Yuma back down to the first floor of the school, where they discovered the entrance to the outdoor walkway had now appeared.

When they first stepped outside, Tomoe was relieved; the distinct sound of rain told her they'd finally gotten outside, and she could send Yuma home. However, her hopes were crushed when she noticed the dense forest that surrounded the entire school, thick enough to get lost in. She quickly came up with a plan - she would go out and clear a path, then return to the school and send Yuma on her way while she rounded up their other classmates. Yuma protested, but Tomoe shut her down, telling her she had to be the one to go out, since she'd gotten everyone stuck in here to begin with. To try and ease her anxieties, Tomoe gave her her purple bow as a promise she'd come back. Then, she kissed her goodbye and journeyed into the forest.

Time seemed to pass slower in the forest. Although she couldn't have been in there for more than half an hour, it felt like a few days, and she couldn't locate any sort of path, or anything else for that matter. Even when she tried to get back into the school, it was like it had simply vanished, and she was pretty sure it wasn't just her poor sense of direction. She reached into her pocket to look at her cellphone, but stopped when she noticed that her hands were extremely red and beginning to burn. As though the acidity of the rain had increased a hundredfold, her skin began to blister and peel. Unable to deal with the pain, she collapsed beneath one of the many trees, and the toxins from the acid rain overtook her body and induced a slow, agonizing death.

GOOD END
Like in TRUE END, Tomoe and Yuma were lucky enough to end up in the same closed space together, and once they were able to access the outdoor walkway, Tomoe was determined to find a way back home for her. However, Yuma protested this plan profusely, and reasoned that the two of them should investigate the second wing of the school before making any hasty decisions. Though it took some convincing, Tomoe eventually agreed with her, and they entered the second wing to scout for any classmates.

As they wandered the halls, they ended up running into Ken, who looked equally as surprised to see them. He asked them how they'd managed to get inside the building, but Tomoe told him they'd had no issues at all. Before they could ask any more questions, she noticed Ken was looking behind her, and turned around to see Kokuhaku approaching them. Even with the distance and poor lighting, it was clear to her that something was wrong - Kokuhaku's erratic movements and empty glare were out of character for her, and to Tomoe, it was obvious she was possessed. As Ken ran over to greet her, she saw the glint of something sharp in her hand, and quickly yelled out the words for one of the exorcism spells she'd read about during her studies and prayed it would work. To her surprise, it did - Kokuhaku collapsed on the ground, and as Ken was checking up on her, Akihiko suddenly came around the corner and joined the group. He explained that he saw Kokuhaku sprint out of the infirmary and had followed her, and Tomoe confirmed for him that she'd been possessed, but she'd exorcised the spirit from her body.

While they waited for her to wake up, Tomoe finally admitted that she knew where they were, and revealed the journal she used to study interesting cases, which detailed information about the murders took place there. Ken showed her some newspaper reports he’d found around the school, consisting of the reports on the murder victims and the research done by Kou Kibiki. She learned through Kibiki's report that she'd accidentally made the group perform the charm incorrectly, and a wave of guilt passed over her when she realized this really was all her fault. However, she pushed this down for the time being, and told everyone their best bet for escape was to figure out how to appease the spirits, and then perform the charm properly. Although Akihiko and Yuma were hesitant, they decided it was better than doing nothing, and with Ken carrying Kokuhaku on his back, the group set off to figure out a means of appeasement.

After Kokuhaku regained consciousness, she and the others took a break to update her with the new information they had. As they were resting by the side of the hallway, they were approached by a wandering blue spirit, who gave them the cursed doll to aid them in their escape. The spirit told them the doll was capable of giving them clues for how to appease the spirits that made up the school. Through the help of the doll's directions, they were able to retrieve the tongue of Ryou, one of the child spirits, and return it to him. However, after his repentance, Kokuhaku began to cry and revealed her fear of ghosts to them. Though concerned about Kokuhaku, Tomoe left it to Ken to handle the situation, and she sat back and watched as he hugged her and promised to keep her safe and away from the other ghosts in the school.

Ryou's repentence unintentionally prevented Kain's death, and after appeasing another child spirit, Tokiko, they were able to meet up with her in the main building. She asked them if they'd seen Mitsuharu, but before anyone could answer, the distinct noise of something falling into the school's outdoor pool echoed through the hallway. Fearing the worst, the group ran outside to see the water rippling. Before anyone could stop her, Kain dove into the water, resurfacing a minute later with Mitsuharu's body - unconscious, but alive. After performing CPR, she was able to resuscitate him, much to everyone's relief. After he'd woken up though, the cursed doll told them the final tongue was in the pool, and, once Mitsuharu was ready, the group searched for the pump room key. Kokuhaku found it hooked on the chain link fence, and after emptying the pool, they retrieved the final child spirit, Yuki's eye and tongue from the drain.

After appeasing Yuki, the closed spaces merged together, and all ten classmates were reunited at last. Once regrouped, they discussed everything they'd found out about the school, from its' many closed spaces to the child spirits that made it up. Tomoe told everyone about the proper method of performing the charm, and, since it seemed like the spirits had been appeased, everyone agreed that now was the time to perform the ritual again. However, in the middle of performing the chant again to return home, there was an ear-piercing scream from the outdoor walkway that made everyone jump. Forgetting about the ritual for the moment, Tomoe and the group ran outside just in time to witness the principal fall from the school rooftop, stuck in a suicide loop. Without warning, everyone watched as Hatto silently climbed over the fence, waited for the principal to fall again, and picked up a key that had fallen on the ground next to him. The key was too small and dull to be visible, and everyone was confused as to how he'd seen it, but pushed their concerns to the side to pursue what was really important.

Thinking quickly, Tomoe reminded everyone of the sealed principal's office in the second wing, the one door that had remained locked the entire time, and they set out to open it. Unsurprisingly, the key worked, but the room itself just raised more questions. While investigating, Mitsuharu noticed a hidden switch in the space heater that opened a secret passage, and Ken found a fourth tongue inside the principal’s desk drawer. He told everyone that touching the tongue caused him to experience a flashback to another child’s murder, which only confused Tomoe more. She told him there was a fourth victim in the case, although she was said to have survived, so it didn't make sense that she would be trapped here too - however, the tongue most certainly belonged to her. Filled with questions, the group descended the secret passage's ladder to get to the bottom of the story.

The passage led them to the abandoned bomb shelter, where Sachiko herself awaited them at the end.  Ken tried to offer her the tongue, but it only seemed to anger her further. They found themselves frozen in place, and she raised her scissors to Kokuhaku, ready to strike. Ken pleaded with her enough for her to stab him instead, but in the split second she struck him, her power wavered enough for Shin to pull a black cat plushie from her bag and throw it at her. The tongue combined with the plushie was enough to make Sachiko repent, and her spirit was freed. Tomoe quickly urged the group to get out of the basement, as this was their only chance to escape. She waited behind, making sure everyone else was out of the basement, before following after her classmates. She and the others made it to the outdoor walkway in time, and were freed from the school’s dimension.

Relationships

Yuma Misakic5358421ec3906dc2f7781366218736608518055
Yuma is Tomoe's girlfriend, and they've been in a relationship for nearly three years now. Because Tomoe is more well off, she often gives Yuma expensive gifts, and has even taken her to France to meet the rest of her family. Being the more emotionally stable of the two, Tomoe provides a lot of support for her and is always willing to help her out, no matter how she's feeling. Although the thought of marriage is still very far away, she truly believes her and Yuma will be together forever and can't wait until they officially move in together and start a family.

Yoshiyuki Shinohara44791df05dc2c9094b353844b3e75a395549dde8
Yoshiyuki is one of Tomoe's best friends - they met in the gaming club of their junior high school back in Tomoe's first year, and have been friends ever since. As she usually does, she essentially forced her way into his life with kindness, even though many students in her grade were afraid of him.  They spend a lot of their time hanging out at the local arcade and playing Pokémon together at school.

Kokuhaku Akabojiad920475dc00768a67016025e3fc145b19be2f2f
Tomoe considers Kokuhaku one of her best friends as well, but they have a somewhat unconventional friendship. Though they've been friends since kindergarten, Tomoe often overwhelms Kokuhaku and drags her into her schemes without a second thought. This can lead to Kokuhaku getting frustrated with her, which leaves Tomoe feeling guilty a lot of the time. Despite this, she's glad Kokuhaku has stayed friends with her after all this time.

Ken Fujii3011830fbb7c20c379069bb502fffc7f1411be33
Ken is one of Tomoe's close friends, and she met him during their first year of high school after finding him crying in one of the school's stairways. They provide each other with support when one of them is grieving - since Tomoe also lost her twin brothers, she understands what it's like to suddenly lose a family member and tries to help Ken feel better when it gets to him. Although they have such a serious connection, Tomoe also teases Ken about his feelings for Kokuhaku, and will sometimes team up with Akihiko to try and further their relationship.

Akihiko Kagurazaka14f2c7e2be49f96bcfc3555a0291635692574f02
Tomoe has done a few collaborations with Akihiko's band in the past, and even though they don't know each other all that well, they still act as though they were best friends. Their energy together is often contagious, making their songs a hit among fans. They also sometimes work as a team to try and further Ken and Kokuhaku's relationship, since both of them often stagnate due to shyness or being nervous.
