Akihiko Kagurazaka (神楽坂秋彦 Kagurazaka Akihiko) is a major character in Corpse Party: Forbidden Rebirth. He is a student of Misato Municipal Brotherhood High's classroom 2-4, and a victim of Heavenly Host Elementary School.

Akihiko is a playable character in TRUE END, a supporting character in GOOD END, REVERSE END and LOST END, and a main character in BAD END.

Design

Akihiko is a teenage boy of average height and slim build, with dark blue eyes, thin eyebrows and light blond hair. His hair is bleached to make it lighter, with its' natural dark brown shade showing at his roots. Both of his ears are pierced, and he has two helix piercings on his left ear. He has two small moles on his neck, as well as several 'love bites'. He typically wears eyeliner and black nail polish.

His fall school uniform consists of a white collared shirt unbuttoned near the top, revealing a black t-shirt underneath it, along with black uniform slacks and brown loafers. He's usually seen carrying a rose in his breast pocket, though no one knows whether the flower is real or fake. He often uses the rose as a prop when interacting with his fans. He also wears a checkered patterned sweatband on his left wrist, but it's usually covered up by his long shirt sleeves.

His casual outfit consists of a black crop top with a red broken heart symbol on the left breast, layered on top of a baggy black and white striped turtleneck sweater, along with a pair of black pants with a flame pattern at the edge of each leg, which he wears with the cuffs rolled up. Along with these, he wears white tube socks with a red stripe along the opening and a pair of checker patterned black and white slip-on shoes. His pants are held up with a black and white checker patterned belt, and he's attached a short chain loop to it as an accessory. Around his neck, he wears a silver ball-chain necklace, a gold beaded necklace and a simple chain necklace with a rabbit-shaped charm on it - the latter of the three is from a brand that Shin frequently buys from.

"His style: E-boy, alt, chains, necklaces with charms, checker patterns, vaporwave accents, androgynous if you squint hard enough. Mostly black and white with blue and red accents. Roses, flame patterns, broken hearts, grungy logos, palm trees. Crop tops with holes in them, oversized graphic hoodies, jean jackets, track pants with logos, ripped jeans, expensive sneakers, tube socks, fingerless gloves. Described by Maki as “a dollar store version of Mikio”, his style has goth elements while still keeping a preppy and cool vibe. Not afraid to show skin, especially in the summer. Accessorizes with rings, bracelets and his checker-patterned sweatbands."

Personality

"The boy prince of Misato Municipal Brotherhood High. Romantic, sensitive and honest almost to a fault, he's amassed a huge fanbase of both women and men thanks to his good looks and talented singing voice. When he puts his mind to it, he can do just about anything - he's the frontman of Electric Dreams, a band he started in his first year that's become one of the main attractions of Misato Municipal. However, thanks to his huge ego and the constant pampering from both his parents and fans, he doesn't tend to use his mind for much... especially when it comes to his grades at school."
- Corpse Party: Forbidden Rebirth introduction

Akihiko is a cocky, popular and overconfident boy from Misato Municipal Brotherhood High's class 2-4. He’s someone who wears his heart on his sleeve - he can hardly ever conceal his true emotions, and is a very honest person as a result. Despite his general airheadedness and naivety, his good looks, kind personality and talented singing voice have earned him a plethora of both male and female fans alike. This is fueled by the fact that he doesn’t allow fighting between them, and is willing to go the extra mile to step in and stop arguments about him as soon as they start. Many outsiders view him as a prince-like figure.

He has quite a big ego, something that’s heavily fueled by the fact that he’s the frontman of the band Electric Dreams - he often goes as far as to call himself the king of the band, despite most of its’ matters being handled by his bandmate Mikio Fukuhara. Although he’s known to be very self-centered, Akihiko won’t hesitate to stand up for what he believes is right, even if it leads to him being injured. He’s quite naive to the world around him, and often has to be ‘supervised’ by his peers if he’s somewhere he could potentially be taken advantage of, like the city. Though he gets himself into trouble often, he rarely ever learns from his mistakes.

At his core, Akihiko lives in a romanticized fantasy world - he has a fascination with big cities, especially Tokyo, Los Angeles and New York, and doesn't fully grasp the larger problems of the world around him. He often talks about moving to Los Angeles when he graduates, though he hasn't considered any of the issues that may arise when living in a foreign country, such as the difficulty of finding employment, the ever-increasing rent prices and the language barriers, especially considering his poor English grades. He has a natural tendency of assuming things will always work out for him, and to his credit, they often do - thanks to the work of his parents or his bandmates behind the scenes, something he's completely unaware of.

He had somewhat of a spoiled upbringing, being showered in gifts and pampered by his parents, and therefore lacks a lot of common sense. This can result in him throwing tantrums when he's told no, and he has no issues resorting to crocodile tears to get his way. Although these outbursts can get tiring to those around him, he genuinely means well and doesn’t fully grasp the concept that not everything will always be his way.

A true romantic at heart, he falls in love hard and easily, and often believes every beautiful woman he’s just met is the love of his life. He easily flirts with others, especially his fans, and he can be extremely smooth at times - despite this, he gets instantly flustered when the attention is turned towards himself. Though his feelings are known to come and go quickly, once he develops a long-term crush, he will become aggressive and competitive if he deems someone a threat between him and his potential partner. Once he's locked onto a target, he will often make snide comments, spread rumours, and do whatever possible to one-up them, even if the rivalry is completely one-sided.

Both he and Mikio have the reputation of being a ‘playboy’ throughout Misato Municipal Brotherhood High, though this is a label Akihiko wears with pride - he sees the number of beautiful women he’s hooked up with as a badge of honour, and truly does cherish the experience with each and every one of them. He doesn’t exclusively seek out women though, and has frequently entertained the idea of the members of Electric Dreams hooking up together, though this was shot down very quickly by the others.

Though he is quite attractive with an outgoing personality to match, Akihiko isn’t exactly the brightest, something that is evident in both his studies and daily life. His marks are frequently some of the lowest in his grade, and he was nearly forced to cease all of Electric Dreams’ activities during his first year of high school due to his consistently failing grades. Notably, Akihiko nearly failed the entrance exam to Misato Municipal Brotherhood High, and was only able to get in thanks to Ken Fujii’s strict study plan. He frequently relies on Ken to keep his marks afloat throughout the school year, something the latter only assists with out of the goodness of his heart.

Despite his fearless exterior shell, Akihiko is terrified of heights as a result of a fall from his treehouse as a child. This accident also resulted in a fear of hospitals, and he will go to great lengths to ensure he never has to set foot near one, even if he’s injured himself badly. In general though, death is something that Akihiko is more terrified of than anything else, and he’s virtually incapable of coping with the concept of it, whether it be regarding himself, a family member, a friend, or an animal.

Plot

Backstory
Akihiko was the first born child of the Kagurazaka household, and as such, he was quite pampered from an early age. His household was relatively normal, and he was given almost everything he wanted, be it toys, sweets or anything else. Although he was spoiled, it gave him the chance to easily figure out what he was interested in: music. His favourite thing to do was put on 'concerts' at family gatherings - not only did he love singing, but he also loved having all the attention on him.

His world changed slightly when his sister, Natsuko was born. Being seven at the time, he was extremely excited at the idea of having a sibling, and even after she was born, he was still thrilled. It took him a while to realize that all the attention that was once on him now had to be split between the two of them. While this didn't make him hate his sister or anything, it did cause him to act out more frequently for attention, a trait that carried over into the loud personality he has in the present day.

One day, his attention-seeking behaviour went a bit too far - while playing in his backyard treehouse, ten year old Akihiko decided it would be a good idea to stand on the railing and try and balance himself. Despite warnings from his best friend, Ken, he attempted the stunt and fell, breaking his left arm and foot in the process. It was his first exposure to such intense pain, and combined with the ambulance ride and hospital stay, the experience was so traumatizing that he vowed he'd never end up in the hospital again. Although he said this, he still performs stupid stunts often - just none involving heights.

Upon entering high school, Akihiko finally formed Electric Dreams, a band consisting of him as the lead singer, along with drummer Mitsuharu Ohtaki, keyboardist Katsu Okonogi, and lead guitarist Mikio Fukuhara. He was extremely passionate about it from the get-go, but it only took a few months for his grades to begin to slip. Pouring all of his energy into making sure his band was the best thing ever was causing him to lose focus on his marks, resulting in an angry phone call from his mother on his train ride home one day. He hated being yelled at, especially by his parents, and so he promised her he'd get his grades up by midterms. After hanging up, though, he realized he had no idea where to even start.

Feeling frustrated and upset, Akihiko began rummaging through his backpack in search of his textbooks, inadvertently spilling its' contents onto the train's floor. As he began picking everything up, someone else helped him - she introduced herself as Shin Aichi, a second year student from Misato Municipal who had been watching Electric Dreams grow from the sidelines. She'd overheard his phone conversation and offered to help him study, to which he immediately accepted, grateful for her kindness as he had no idea what he was doing when it came to schoolwork. Thanks to Shin's help, he was able to pass his classes and keep the band going, and their meetups became more frequent as time went on.

Heavenly Host

If you know nothing about Corpse Party, be sure to read through this quick glossary first! It'll make a lot of terminology easier when reading this section!

Prologue
Akihiko, along with a few other classmates, were invited to classroom 2-4 after school by Tomoe Mizuki. Once everyone had gathered, she presented the Sachiko Ever After charm and explained its' significance to the group, before inviting them all to perform the ritual with her. The ritual involved holding a paper Sachiko doll in a circle, chanting and tearing the doll to pieces. Once everyone agreed and understood the rules, they tore apart the paper doll, and Akihiko put his scrap in his pants pocket for safekeeping. Shortly after the ceremony, an earthquake occured and opened a gaping hole in the floor that he and the others all fell through, leading them to Heavenly Host Elementary School.

TRUE END
A short while later, he awoke to find himself in the old, run-down school building, and initially thought it was a joke, until it hit him just how serious the situation was, and that he had to get out of there. He searched for a way out, running circles around the building for a little while with no luck finding anyone he knew. Running out of options, he began yelling his classmates' names, but he was cut off by a sudden earthquake that shook the whole building. Unbeknownst to him, these earthquakes enabled him to shift through the different closed spaces of Heavenly Host, and when the dust settled, the hallway he was in looked completely different than before.

Though it was extremely dark, he could make out a figure at the end of the hallway in front of him, and its' tall stature told him it was his classmate, Hatto Sudo. Overjoyed to have found a living person, he pushed his feelings aside, let his guard down and offered to work together to get out of there. The darkness of the school concealed the knife Hatto had in his hand, and Akihiko was so distracted trying to make small talk that he didn't notice it until it was stuck in his stomach.

In a futile attempt to escape, Akihiko clutched his stomach and tried to make a getaway. He ran into Kokuhaku at the end of the hallway, who looked like a deer caught in headlights, and told her to run. Although she told him she'd go and get medical supplies, he collapsed on the ground shortly after. Hatto approached him and, too weak to even beg for his life,  he lay in silence as flayed open his stomach. Thanks to Hatto's swift actions, he was the first of his classmates to die.

GOOD END
Like in TRUE END he thought Heavenly Host was all a prank, until it hit him just how serious the situation was, and that he had to get out of there. He did a sweep of the building and quickly figured out he was alone there. Beginning to panic, he began yelling his classmates' names, but he was cut off by a sudden earthquake that shook the whole building. Unbeknownst to him, these earthquakes enabled him to shift through the different closed spaces of Heavenly Host, and when the dust settled, the hallway he was in looked completely different than before.

Deciding to head back to the upper level, he passed by the infirmary and bumped into Kokuhaku, who had sprinted out from the room very suddenly. Confused, he chased after her, leading him to find Ken, Tomoe, Yuma and Kokuhaku, the latter of which was passed out on the ground. She'd been possessed, but had thankfully been exorcised by Tomoe before she could do any harm. It was here that Tomoe admitted she knew where they were, and revealed a journal detailing information about the murders took place there, as she'd researched them in the past. Ken also showed them some newspaper reports he’d found, one which contained a report on the victims of the murders, and another that revealed the proper method for performing the Sachiko Ever After charm, written by Kou Kibiki. Tomoe told them their best bet for escape was to figure out how to appease the spirits, and then perform the charm properly. Although Akihiko and Yuma were hesitant, they decided it was better than doing nothing, and with Ken carrying Kokuhaku on his back, the group set off to figure out a means of appeasement.

After Kokuhaku regained consciousness, he and the others took a break to update her with the new information they had. As they were resting by the side of the hallway, they were approached by a wandering blue spirit, who gave them the cursed doll to aid them in their escape. The spirit told them the doll was capable of giving them clues for how to appease the spirits that made up the school. Through the help of the doll's directions, they were able to retrieve the tongue of Ryou, one of the child spirits, and return it to him. However, after his repentance, Kokuhaku began to cry and revealed her fear of ghosts to them. Unsure of what to do, Akihiko let Ken take control of the situation, and watched as he hugged Kokuhaku and promised to keep her away from the other ghosts in the school.

Although they didn't know it, appeasing Ryou unintentionally prevented Kain's death, and after appeasing another child spirit, Tokiko, they were able to meet up with her in the main building. She asked them if they'd seen Mitsuharu, but before anyone could answer, the distinct noise of something falling into the school's outdoor pool echoed through the hallway. Fearing the worst, the group ran outside to see the water rippling. Before Akihiko could stop her, Kain dove into the water, resurfacing a minute later with Mitsuharu's body - unconscious, but alive. After performing CPR, she was able to resuscitate him, much to Akihiko's relief. After he'd woken up though, the cursed doll told them the final tongue was in the pool, and, once Mitsuharu was ready, the group searched for the pump room key. Kokuhaku found it hooked on the chain link fence, and after emptying the pool, they retrieved the final child spirit, Yuki's eye and tongue from the drain.

After appeasing Yuki, the closed spaces merged together, and all ten classmates were reunited at last. Once regrouped, they discussed everything they'd found out about the school, from its' many closed spaces to the child spirits that made it up. Since it seemed like the spirits had been appeased, everyone agreed that now was the time to perform the ritual again. However, in the middle of performing the chant again to return home, there was an ear-piercing scream from the outdoor walkway that made everyone jump. Forgetting about the ritual for the moment, Akihiko and the group ran outside just in time to witness the principal fall from the school rooftop, stuck in a suicide loop. Without warning, everyone watched as Hatto silently climbed over the fence, waited for the principal to fall again, and picked up a key that had fallen on the ground next to him. The key was too small and dull to be visible, and everyone was confused as to how he'd seen it, but pushed their concerns to the side to pursue what was really important.

Tomoe reminded everyone of the sealed principal's office in the second wing, the one door that had remained locked the entire time, and they set out to open it. Unsurprisingly, the key worked, but the room itself just raised more questions. While investigating, Mitsuharu noticed a hidden switch in the space heater that opened a secret passage, and Ken found a fourth tongue inside the principal’s desk drawer. He told everyone that touching the tongue caused him to experience a flashback to another child’s murder, and Tomoe confirmed there was a fourth victim in the case, although she was said to have survived - however, the tongue most certainly belonged to her. Filled with questions, the group descended the secret passage's ladder to get to the bottom of the story.

The passage led them to the abandoned bomb shelter, where Sachiko herself awaited them at the end.  Ken tried to offer her the tongue, but it only seemed to anger her further. They found themselves frozen in place, and she raised her scissors to Kokuhaku, ready to strike. Ken pleaded with her enough for her to stab him instead, but in the split second she struck him, her power wavered enough for Shin to pull a black cat plushie from her bag and throw it at her. The tongue combined with the plushie was enough to make Sachiko repent, and her spirit was freed. Akihiko and Kokuhaku checked on Ken, while Tomoe urged the group to get out of the basement, as this was their only chance to escape. Akihiko took off his white button up and gave it to Ken to help stop the bleeding before following after the rest of his classmates. Him and the others made it to the outdoor walkway in time, and were freed from the school’s dimension.

Epilogue (GOOD END)
After returning to reality, things went back to normal for Akihiko pretty quickly. As his second year of high school winded down, he tried to work up the courage to confess to Shin, as he knew she was graduating that year and he likely wouldn't see her again for quite a while. With help from his band, he organized things so he and Shin could be alone just before school ended. However, just as he was ready to confess, she (accidentally and unknowingly) shut him down when she thanked him for being such a good friend to her. Unable to think of anything else to say, he weakly agreed with her. After their exchange, Shin got a text from her father telling her he was there to pick her up, effectively causing Akihiko to lose his last chance to confess to her.

Though he was depressed for a while afterwards, he managed to pick himself up after some time. A year later, despite his poor grades, he was able to graduate high school on time with the rest of his class, though just barely. Near the end of his third year, he signed off on a lease for an expensive apartment in Shibuya, Tokyo, intending to split the rent four ways with the rest of Electric Dreams. However, he failed to consult them before signing the lease, and he had no one else who was willing to split the room with him, nor could he afford for the rent on his own. As such, the other three had no choice but to move in together for two years until it was up.

Though they had their ups and downs living together, and had multiple of their utilities shut off throughout their stay, living in the big city caused their popularity to skyrocket even further, which allowed them to work full-time as a band. Akihiko took on a side job as a model for streetwear magazines, and that, on top of him being an idol, paid him more than enough to cover his rent. He spent part of his first paycheck on a tongue piercing, and later on, he also got a heart daith piercing, eyebrow piercing and second lobe piercings. Though he still retained a good portion of his naive, spoiled personality, living away from his parents allowed him to grow more as a person and become a bit more mature when analyzing situations. Instead of Mikio and Mitsuharu acting as his chaperones so he didn't get into trouble in the city, he learned more about the dangers and cautions of living there so he could keep himself safe. Just after his 20th birthday, he arranged to move into another apartment in Tokyo, this time on his own.

As the two years of living with his band came to a close, he found himself back in Misato while helping Mitsuharu move his stuff as he prepared to move in with Kain. Exhausted from the heavy lifting, he and Mikio decided to hit up one of the local bakeries for a snack and milk tea. Unbeknownst to them, the shop they'd chosen actually belonged to Shin, who'd started up her own business just a few months prior. Since he wasn't expecting to see her, Akihiko had nothing prepared to say at all, which caused him to completely lose his train of thought. He awkwardly stuttered out something about not expecting to run into her there before trailing off, and Mikio took over and placed their order before he could say anything stupid.

When she came back with their drinks, Akihiko impulsively asked her if she wanted to go for dinner and catch up sometime, which she agreed to with a smile. She quickly jotted down her phone number for him, and Mikio had to forcefully led him out of the store when he started rambling about the different places they could eat at and when he'd call her. Once they were back on the street, he asked Akihiko if he really knew anything about Shin, or if he just thought she was cute. When he couldn't even name five things about her, Mikio told him he was probably just in love with the idea of her that he had in his head. Despite the fact that Akihiko usually ignored his advice, he took what he said to heart, and decided he was going to really try and get to know Shin this time - not just hopelessly follow her around.

After moving into his new apartment, Akihiko began planning his first official date with Shin. His salary was more than enough to cover an expensive dinner plus extra, but he decided to leave it at that for now, considering this was only their first time going out. As they were dining, he asked her plenty of questions and listened intently to every word she said, doing his best not to space out or daydream during their conversations. The more she spoke, the more he realized he felt different about her - in a good way. Actually sitting down and having a real conversation with her about her interests, aspirations and opinions started to shape her as a fully dimensional person in his mind, and if anything, it only made him fall deeper in love with her. As they were finishing up their date, he didn't hesitate to ask if she wanted to go out again, and she agreed instantly.

Over the course of the next year, they continued to see each other often, with Akihiko commuting to Misato to see her or vice versa. Around the six month mark, he decided to make things official between them with a promise ring and a large pink rabbit plush toy, which she was overjoyed with. Though they were initially okay with the distance between them, it got more and more frustrating as their relationship got more serious. Finally, a short while after her 22nd birthday, Shin made the decision to relocate her business to Tokyo and officially move in with Akihiko. Through his influence on social media and her natural talent for baking, her business was booming in no time. Even though they were both young, their futures were already so promising, and both of them were content and happy - both with each other, and their lives.

BAD END
Similarly to GOOD END, Akihiko bumped into Kokuhaku, who had sprinted out of the infirmary, and chased after her. However, instead of being met with the sight of his classmates looking after Kokuhaku, he turned the corner just in time to see Tomoe's body go up in flames. Akihiko quickly took over consoling Yuma so Ken could make sure Kokuhaku was still alive, but the sight of what just happened had clearly traumatized her beyond repair, and he wasn't sure she'd ever be the same again.

After taking a few minutes to process everything, the three of them determined that it was likely the spell she'd recited that had caused her body to spontaneously combust in such a way. This was supported by the fact that her backpack and ribbon had been unscathed by the fire, as it was likely only intended to consume her body and not anything attached to it. Ken retrieved the bag, and after digging around, he pulled out what looked to be some kind of journal. The three quickly figured out this was Tomoe's "study guide" she used to record information on paranormal and true crime cases that interested her. As Akihiko flipped through the pages, Ken revealed some newspaper clippings he'd found, and used them to match the names of the victims to one of the sections in the journal. Though none of them really knew what they were doing, they decided to investigate the school more and see if the journal gave them any more answers. Akihiko helped Ken lift Kokuhaku onto his back, and the group set off.

Despite their hopes that Tomoe's notes would eventually lead them to an exit, several hours passed by and none of them had made any progress. Akihiko found himself lost in his own thoughts, but snapped back to reality when he heard Ken gasp. He looked over to see blood dripping down Kokuhaku's face, leaking from her eyes, nose, ears and mouth. Although they didn't know it, the spell Tomoe had accidentally recited had successfully exorcised Kokuhaku, but it had put her body into a permanent comatose state, and it was now draining itself of blood through any orifices possible. Despite not knowing the details of what was happening, it was still obvious she wasn't going to survive much longer, and there was nothing any of them could do about it - they had no choice but to leave her behind.

Ken propped her body up against the nearby wall, and even though he did his best to hide it, it was obvious to Akihiko that he didn't want to leave her behind. He decided that it was probably best to leave him to mourn in his own way, and so he stood a few feet away with Yuma while he let him say his goodbyes. Just as Ken stood up to leave though, something caught his eye beneath the floorboards next to her body. He pried up one of the loose pieces of wood and fished around until he pulled out the cursed doll. After showing it to the other two, they concluded that they should hold onto it for now - Yuma stated the doll was so old fashioned that it probably didn't come from any of the students who'd been trapped in the school, and was likely related to the school itself. Ken gave the doll to her to put it in Tomoe's backpack for safekeeping, and the three continued on, leaving Kokuhaku's body behind.

Not long after, the doll began speaking to them from Tomoe's bag, and gave them instructions on where to find the first child spirit's tongue. It led the group to a gap in the wall, and Ken pulled out a tongue bag labelled with Ryou's name from inside. Although they were all horrified by it, it was the closest thing they'd found to a clue so far, so they decided to hang onto it. They later encountered Ryou in the hallway, and after Ken matched his face to one of the children in the newspaper article, he decided they should give the bag to him. However, when he approached him, Ryou attacked him, causing the tongue bag to fall from his hands. Before he could do any damage though, Akihiko snatched it up and forced it in Ryou's line of sight. This managed to appease him and caused his spirit to disappear, effectively saving Ken's life.

Before they could collect themselves, a large earthquake occurred as a result of the appeasement, which merged together multiple of the closed spaces. These spaces included the one Kain was located in, and the three of them later encountered her in the front entranceway. Although happy to see them, she became visibly distraught after hearing about Tomoe and Kokuhaku's deaths, and asked if they'd seen Mitsuharu anywhere. Akihiko told her they hadn't, but reassured her they hadn't seen him among the deceased either, so he had to still be alive. As they were chatting, they heard footsteps behind them, and they turned around to see a very confused looking Yoshiyuki down the hallway. The group ran over to check on him, and he told them a similar story about how he'd gotten there - he'd found one of the tongue bags and, after running into Tokiko, had unknowingly appeased her.

Before he could get another word in, Akihiko asked him if he'd seen Shin anywhere, and he instantly went quiet before admitting she was dead. In a fit of rage, Akihiko attacked him, pinning him to the ground and beating him. Ken and Kain rushed to try and restrain him, but Yoshiyuki made no attempt to stop the attack, and instead took the blows as though they were retribution. Suddenly, they heard the distinct sound of something falling into the pool outside, and there was a brief moment of silence before Kain shrieked Mitsuharu’s name and sprinted for the pool, with Ken, Akihiko and Yuma right behind her. She attempted dive into the water, but Akihiko and the other two held her back, paranoid about losing anyone else. Akihiko tried to reason with her, telling her that it was very unlikely it was Mitsuharu, since he hated water and would never willingly go near it. She hesitated, but agreed with him, and once Yoshiyuki rejoined them, the group began to hunt for a way to drain the pool. Kain found the key to the pump room hooked on the chain link fence that surrounded the pool, and quickly emptied it.

Once it was empty, they went outside to see something stuck in the pool's drain, though no one could tell what it was through the heavy rain. He and Kain descended the pool's ladder to investigate, only to find out it really was Mitsuharu who had fallen in - though, all that was left to indicate it was him were the distinct scars on the right arm of his body. The two immediately broke down, but it only got worse when their other classmates approached them with the cursed doll in hand. The doll had begun speaking once the pool had drained, and the clues it gave indicated the last tongue bag was located beneath Mitsuharu’s remains.

It was clear by Akihiko and Kain's current state that they were physically incapable of retrieving the tongue, so Yoshiyuki volunteered to fish it out. Akihiko was disgusted in him and point blank told him how awful he was for going as far as to volunteer to desecrate a classmate’s corpse, causing the tension between them to grow further. Despite this, Yoshiyuki still went ahead and retrieved the tongue, and the group was later able to appease Yuki thanks to his efforts.

Once they'd appeased the three spirits, all of the dimensions merged together, and they sat down to discuss what to do next. Ken pulled out Tomoe’s notebook and the newspaper clippings, as well as a report written by Kou Kibiki - one that informed them on the proper way to perform the Sachiko Ever After charm. He explained to Akihiko and the others how to perform it correctly, but stated they couldn’t do it until they’d found Hatto. Akihiko made a snarky comment about how he was probably already dead with the sole purpose of upsetting Yoshiyuki, but before the latter could respond, a loud scream echoed through the halls. The group ran to the outdoor walkway where the cry came from, only to witness the principal jump off the roof, trapped in a suicide loop. They were horrified, but could do nothing but watch him fall again, unable to do anything to prevent it. On the third fall, Ken suddenly climbed the fence and hastily grabbed something small that had fallen next to the principal. The small object, which turned out to be a key, was unlabelled - Akihiko suggested it might be related to the sealed principal’s office in the second wing, and he and his classmates set off to find out.

The key fit the door’s lock perfectly, and the five of them investigated the room, assuming it to be the last place they hadn't explored yet. While looking over everything, Kain found a hidden switch in the space heater that revealed a secret passage, and Ken discovered a fourth spirit’s tongue bag hidden in the principal’s desk drawer. After picking it up, he told his classmates that touching the tongue had caused him to experience a flashback to the murder of a fourth child, and opened Tomoe’s journal to match the name on the bag to someone from the case. He was shocked to discover the tongue belonged to the surviving victim of the case - though his flashback had confirmed she was undoubtedly dead. After discussing it, they came to the conclusion that there was one final spirit left to appease, and she was likely located in the hidden passage Kain had opened up. With the tongue tucked safely in Tomoe’s backpack, they descended the passage ladder.

The ladder led them to the school’s underground bomb shelter, where they got their first glimpse of Sachiko as she ran down the passage hallway. The maze-like shelter felt long and never-ending to Akihiko, but he and the others eventually reached the end of the corridor, with only a small room ahead of them. Knowing Sachiko was located in there, they were mentally preparing themselves, when Yoshiyuki suddenly let out a cry of pain. Everyone turned around to see Hatto for the first time since they'd been trapped - however, he was surrounded by the thick black fog of the darkening, and had just stabbed Yoshiyuki in the back. Akihiko and his classmates stood frozen in horror as they watched Yoshiyuki try and wrestle the knife away from Hatto. Wanting to help but not knowing what to do, Akihiko went in to attack him from behind, but froze when Yoshiyuki screamed at him to stop. Yoshiyuki managed to get the knife away from Hatto, only for the latter to attempt to strangle him. With no other options, he pinned Hatto to the ground, only pausing for a moment to apologize before repeatedly stabbing him in the chest. The others were left speechless, and it was Yoshiyuki’s crying that broke the silence as he admitted he just wanted to kill himself now and get it over with. Akihiko approached him and hugged him, apologizing profusely for the things he’d said before, and made amends with him over Shin.

Though it took a while for Yoshiyuki to feel okay leaving Hatto’s body behind, the five of them eventually proceeded to the final room to appease Sachiko. Ken attempted to give her the tongue, but it only seemed to make her angrier, and she prepared to attack - however, just before she could, Yuma pulled out the black cat plushie she'd secretly picked up from the school's halls from her purse and threw it at her, allowing her spirit to move on. With no time for questions, the school began to crumble, and the surviving members escaped the basement, made it to the outdoor walkway, and were freed from Heavenly Host's clutches.

Relationships

Shin Aichi851ccfb69269964983a7955e0981fccb7e7129d1
Shin is a close friend of Akihiko, and is the only reason Akihiko was able to keep his band going, thanks to her helping him study for midterms. He developed feelings almost instantly after meeting her, resulting in him becoming extremely fidgety and awkward in her presence. He often goes over the top when trying to convey his love for her, but despite this, she never seems to realize that his intent is romantic. He constantly makes up excuses to his friends as to why he can't outright confess to her, saying that it would make his fans jealous and start a war between their classmates.

Ken Fujii3011830fbb7c20c379069bb502fffc7f1411be33
Ken is Akihiko's childhood best friend, and the two have lived next door to each other since they were in elementary school. Although they're extremely different people, both of them care deeply for each other and wouldn't be the same without the other. Ken often keeps his eye on Akihiko to make sure he stays out of trouble, while Akihiko is often the one to give Ken the push he needs to make big decisions, especially those involving his romantic interests.

Mitsuharu Ohtakia98ec4a697730667b20592ec40b51245664e42a6
Mitsuharu is Akihiko's "brother in arms", so to speak - both of them are also childhood friends, and are something of a chaotic force together. They end up fueling each other's stupid ideas, which often leads them to trouble when they aren't careful enough. Although they're wild together, they also balance each other out well - with Akihiko's more emotional and childish outlook on life and Mitsuharu's rough, street-smart viewpoint, their natures work well together when it comes to their band, Electric Dreams.

Kokuhaku Akabojiad920475dc00768a67016025e3fc145b19be2f2f
Akihiko asked Kokuhaku out in their first year of high school, completely on a whim; his judgement was more based on her looks than anything else. Despite the fact they barely knew each other, she said yes; however, they only lasted a few weeks before Kokuhaku called it off. Although their relationship was short-lived, they still interact often, though their personalities and viewpoints sometimes clash with each other.

Tomoe Mizuki168d43136a69f454ca4587869f44a0bca3a4abdf
Tomoe is one of the other singers Akihiko has collaborated with in the past, and even though they don't know each other all that well, they still act as though they were best friends. Their energy together is often contagious, making their songs a hit among fans. They also sometimes work as a team to try and further Ken and Kokuhaku's relationship, since both of them often stagnate due to shyness or being nervous.

Yoshiyuki Shinohara44791df05dc2c9094b353844b3e75a395549dde8
Akihiko holds a strong, mostly one-sided rivalry with Yoshiyuki, as he's convinced himself that he's trying to steal Shin away from him. Whenever Yoshiyuki is around, Akihiko does whatever he can to try and prove he's better, whether it's by challenging him to silly competitions or outright slandering him. Despite the fact he's positive Yoshiyuki has feelings for Shin, his claim is completely baseless, and all the evidence he has was made up in his mind.

Hatto Sudoa77770b67850c449404f4944d543e3af9971ce73
Akihiko also heavily dislikes Hatto, though his reason is just because he's turned off by his behaviour and demeanour. He frequently makes a scene when Hatto is around in order to distract him from whatever he's doing at the time, and will sometimes bother him in class, as they sit next to each other.

Trivia

  • His favourite colour is dark blue.
  • His favourite foods include spicy curry, sriracha Doritos, tuna sashimi, pineapple pizza, and bananas.
    • He loves spicy foods of all kinds, especially spicy snack foods. He isn’t very picky though, and will eat just about anything when it comes to snacks and fried foods. It’s hard to get him to eat food with real nutritional value.
  • His favourite drink is almond milk tea.
    • Bubble tea is something he loves no matter what, but almond milk tea with tapioca and egg pudding is by far and away his favourite. There are always a few empty bubble tea cups strewn about his room.
  • His least favourite food is zucchini.
    • To be frank, he doesn’t like most vegetables unless they’re cut up and cooked into curry roux. Ken has gotten him to eat a few vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers, but he refuses to touch zucchini.
  • When it comes to his meal habits, he doesn’t cook for himself, so if his parents don’t make food, he’ll go out to eat. He snacks frequently throughout the day on whatever junk food he can get his hands on. He generally has a poor diet but makes up for it with the homecooked meals from his mom. He loves convenience and spends most of his allowance getting takeout or ordering delivery.
  • When it comes to his sleep habits, his sleep is pretty average for a guy his age, though he tends to oversleep a bit. He walks to school with Ken every day, but the latter often has to go wake him up and drag him out of bed. He often has vivid dreams. He’s either hyperactive or passed out in class.
  • He uses the personal pronoun "ore" when referring to himself.
  • He has autism and ADHD.
