Aurum

Once upon a time a morally gray lab in their world created a teleporter and released it for public use. After a while the users started mutating into savage monsters and then they realized that the teleporter was malfunctioning. The lab collected all of the people who used the teleporter and exiled them on their old testing site which was a small island, while they will work on the meds. Auaum was one of the exiled people, and while the other exiled ones mutated and got killed or locked up by other survivors, his mutation wasn't so bad. It just caused him to grow gold on his skin. After a long while, a few people who still remained alive on the island realized that the lab most likely gave up on the meds for them, so they arranged a trade with the lab. Auaum agreed to be tested on in exchange for medicine for his friends. Very soon after he arrived to the lab it turned out that the test were supposed to kill him. With a little help from Neil (a nice scientist) Aurum managed to escape and go back to the island, taking the scientist with him. Neil then was able to duplicate the medicine the island people got from the trade buying them more time to live.

Almost a year later a stranger named Kell came to the island looking for his friend - Louis (who was one of the survivors on the island). Kell wanted to illegally bring Louis back to the city, but Louis only agreed on the condition that Kell will help all of the island people get back as well. After they went back to the city they had no choice but to live in the part of the city that was basically ruled by bandits. Aurum and his brother Argentum were not interested in staying in the bandit district so they split up from the group and went off to look for their family.
