Trouble's mother abandons Trouble and her five siblings when they are very young. They are reluctantly looked after by a pack of wolves living in a castle, until their two uncles come to collect them. Leaving the castle that is the only place Trouble has ever known is hard, but the family makes a new home in a small abandoned cabin in a dead forest. Even Trouble's father (who she thinks is just another uncle) finds his way there and becomes a part of Trouble's life. Life is good!

Then Trouble's favourite brother goes missing. It might've been Trouble's fault.
Then her sister decides to move away from home, and while their relationship is a bit rocky, that's still her sister!
Then two mean wolves attack Trouble and one of her uncles, and drive them out of their home and claim it as their own. The forest might be dead and ugly and uncomfortable to strangers, but Trouble still loves it, it's still her home!!

...was her home.

Trouble flees from the attack, and knowing that there is no returning to home anymore, she goes straight to the castle where she was born in. The wolves living there have turned her away every time she's tried to visit, but this time she wants to join the pack.
They let her, on condition that she has to find a teacher and earn her keep like everyone else there. Trouble - still shook from the attack and desperate to just be let inside the castle's safe walls - promises she'll become a warrior, just because at that moment it's the option that requires the least amount of thought.

Trouble does not want to be a warrior. She has no interest in becoming one - she has no motivation, no skills, and on top of that a recent trauma of being attacked.
She does soon find out that she is very interested in learning about healing and would much rather be studying that, but it's too late. She already committed to becoming a warrior and she's too stubborn to change fields - and she doesn't even know if it's possible.

Life sucks.

Furthermore, Trouble doesn't know anymore how to be with her crush - it was so easy and fun Before, but now she feels almost like a different person who only knows how to cry and be mean to him.

She also thinks she abandoned her uncle, and is super worried about the rest of her family too, and when she finally finds one of her other uncles (her father), she just gets into a bad fight with him and tells him she hates him.
