Jack Wancir

tumblr_pizahhgPDa1via6guo1_r1_1280.png

Jack is a plain-faced individual.

There's very little that exists beyond the mask of lies he creates to avoid the reality that is around him. There's hardly personality to him. He is selfish, and deeply flawed. He is a pathological liar, and will fib over anything.

The reality is that he is a foundling, and later an orphan. His adoptive brother is a mutated amalgamation that considered a monstrosity and subhuman that he is ashamed of.

As time goes on throughout his journey, he gradually loses the ability to express himself. He becomes monotonous, apathetic, and deeply guilted with his past actions. And so he internalizes this guilt, puts them away, and pretends as if it does not exist. He did not do those things. He creates another mask.

The reality is that he is a coward. He hides it well, but it still faintly shows.

Personality

His demeanor is apathetic. He is blank in expression, and indifferent in his opinions.

As an adult, Jack is still insecure in his identity and familial status. He takes traumatic events and shoves them deep down inside of himself, hoping that one day they will no longer exist. Jack begins to lie to himself, and become avoidant in contacting even his closest relationships.

Jack's best interest remains in himself in terms of social status. He desires to be seen positively and to be accepted. However, his guilt over his past actions leave him plagued.

As a Teenager

Starting at 14, Jack became a passive aggressive boy. He would demean those around him for no reason, pick on girls who he did not like, and even flirt with those that Randy liked. Additionally, his lying develops into a constant ordeal.

After the Prank War, his aggression cools. As most teenagers are, he becomes insecure for his appearance and past. He is an untrusting person, as seen in his feelings toward Henry.

As a Child

As a child, Jack is a quiet child. He is shy, but judgemental. It is a complex from seeing how others treat his brother based his appearance-- he sees this, and does not want others to treat him the same way. Athough he is young, he has the unshaking feeling that he does not belong, and this is the source of many of his childhood anxieties.

Notes
  • He has large hands with multiple tiny scars on his fingers due to fishing. He also has short fingernails from frequently biting them.
  • He has freckles, a few on his arms, but mostly on his face, centered on his nose.
  • He has a long oval face, thick eyebrows, and downturned eyes that somehow always look sad. His nose is very big, his ears and teeth are also large.
  • In the beginning of Topsy Turvy Jack had an, albeit limited, range of facial expression. However, this quickly becomes a monotonous, emotionless expression on his face no matter what the circumstance.

Fishing

Jack is a mediocre fisherman taught by Randy's father, who is a marine biologist and runs a small fishery called Lubgamie. He is part of said company. While he sells fish independently, but is paid by the company for every fish of an invasive species caught.

Markmanship

Jack's comfort level in how he harms others has always been by distance. There's less to feel, and he doesn't want to feel them die. He doesn't want to know that he did that. No, no, it was the bullet. He doesn't punch the bullets into their body himself, right?

Lying

Jack is an excellent liar, and is probaby the thing he is the most skilled at. However, his lying is also compulsive, and sometimes he forgets to match his stories up properly. His tell is the fact he consciously makes animated facial expressions as he talks. If he is telling the truth, he wouldn't make such an effort.

Baking

Although Jack typically does not appreciate this ability, he is very good at baking! He also likes baked goods. Once he's in one place, he will appreciate the ability more.

History

As a baby, a few months under a year old, Jack was found in by a law enforcer inside a tree hollow, with the foliage inside the hollow arranged like a memorial. The name of the law enforcer was a woman named Samantha, who had been on the call. And it was a case that stuck with her, for many years. The only marking declaring any form of identification was a small stone inscribed with the name "Jack MacAuley," as well as a timeline between April, to December. It was placed intricately, somberly, and as Samantha found as true as anything she's seen before, eerily. A grave for a living infant.

Her report of the case caused a stir among people, as a case for a child's grave would. Despite the readily available name, and plenty of news coverage inside central Yarsivec, the mother was never found, and the child was placed inside an orphanage. And still, even after news died down, her case of the baby in the tree hollow stayed inside of her mind, like a splinter. Besides, she thought, it might do good to have a relation for Gerroson that expanded beyond herself. Eventually, she signed a request to adopt him, and began the tedious process of adoption. After all, it's not easy. It takes time, determination, and money. The disapproval of being far too involved in the case was included. Jack would stay until the age of six.

Jack's memories of the orphanage has largely faded, but it still stands. He remembers the dreary conditions of the area, as well as the lack of personal items, and ill-tempered cohabitants. He also remembers the vehicle that was used to drive him to Samantha's home, largely because vehicles in Yarsivec was rare, and he considered it a special event. He wasn't too sure whether or the clothes he took home or wore were even his, or if he left some of his there. He remembers the vehicle was black.

After Adoption

He was mostly shy and silent the first year there. Samantha was usually gone on patrol past 11, and so when Jack was scared of being alone, or the dark, he would crawl in Gerroson's room. Gerroson would play games with Jack, and after finding that they both liked race cars, would devise a way for Jack to get his own set of toy cars-- through a treasure hunt game. Jack realized that. Jack wanted the toy cars. He really wanted the toy cars.

He had a slight resentment towards Samantha, because she was never there when he really wanted her to be-- at night. He also thought it was the coolest thing, his brother being the way he was. He was proud of Gerroson, until Gerroson started grade school. Then he saw how he would be treated.

And that, that made Jack start to avoid Gerroson. He started, at least subconciously, to believe people's words about Gerroson. When Jack first started school himself, people would bully him over his relation to Gerroson, often calling him names. When his older brother saw this happen, he told Jack to never mention his relation to him. And Jack, more than happy to do so, complied.

In third grade, a scrawny kid that no one liked came up to him, speaking thickly in an accent and lisping. Jack, who could not understand what he was saying, scrutinized the boy, until he became so flustered he punched Jack in the face. This prompted Jack to return the favor, and so on and so forth. This brought on a legendary fight ever torn apart by two third graders, and this brought on a punishment. Not only was Jack grounded to his room, he had to spend all of recess inside, with only that snotty, blond mess of a classmate for company. With Randy.

For Jack, the first few weeks were hell. Now that he had to be forced to interact with Randy, what if all of his classmates lump them together? Then he'd be looked down on for being Randy's friend. He won't be popular. He would miss out on other friends, because of this chain and ball that Randy happened to be. And that frustrated him.

He tried to prohibit any interaction with Randy at first, trying to fill his boredom with homework.

And then, he started to realize that Randy read out loud under his breath. And that aggravated him, it aggravated him so badly. Now desperate for some way of making that somber whispering of childish books under Jack's own reading level to cease, Jack made the offer of reading with him. It was the beginning of Jack no longer ignoring him, but it wasn't the start of Jack accepting him as an friend.

For some reason, despite the lack of affection from Jack, Randy seemed to be fully convinced that Jack liked him. Liked him! How ridiculous! But still, Randy proved to treat Jack as if they were actually friends, and for the first time, Jack had someone invite him over to their house. And when that happened, Jack felt excited. And then he felt bad for how he thought of Randy.

He had a lot of fun there. Jack was jealous of the race car posters in Randy's room, and he thought the carpet was really fluffy. Regarding Shooie, he felt bewildered; he wasn't really an animal person. But, something that mattered very much to him was a drawing on Randy's wall, one of many little doodles. It was a drawing of them both together, as friends. That day, Randy gave the drawing. To this day, Jack still has it. It's sentimental to him.

Two weeks later, Jack invited Randy to his own house, something he was afraid to do. Gerroson and all. Sure, Randy said that it was cool when Jack told him who his brother was, but talking was different than a reaction. What if he thought their family was weird?

The day that Randy came over, he looked like he had stars in his eyes. What surprised Jack was that Randy didn't really seem deterred by Gerroson at all; he even hugged him. If anything, Randy seemed more spooked by Samantha's profession as a law enforcer. And Jack thought that was very ironic.

Before long, they would read together more closely. Then they would talk with each other, very friendly. They were close friends. And then Killian began to pay attention to Jack and Randy. Killian. As in, the girl that Jack thought was so cute. Yeah, that Killian. Much cuter than he found Randy. When she told Jack that he ought to not be Randy's friend; especially if he wants to be her friend, he willingly did so. He told Randy that he was probably never his friend in the first place. Just as he hoped wouldn't happen, Randy started to cry, and they started to argue. And then Randy told Jack a secret he never told him, not ever. That his family believed Jack was a selfish, mean boy. Jack, now himself very hurt, began hitting Randy, and another fight ensued. After that, they drifted apart.

The fight gave Jack notoriety, and he didn't really make very good friends with Killian. She was nicer when Jack pretended to tease her over her bangs being cut too short. However, Randy, on the other hand, found himself being made fun of worse. And even though the two were mad at each other still, Jack found himself defending Randy from those bullies. He promised himself to be a better friend to Randy; after all, he was the first real friend Jack ever had, or cared about. He let himself not be necessarily as cool like he wanted to be, and sometimes talked for Randy. Actually, he talked or translated for Randy a lot. Maybe he could understand Randy clearly, but most couldn't. It was by pure luck that they had the same class for most of elementary. They often fought, though. Then they would make up.

He mostly got along with everyone, even though he wasn't very popular. People often made fun of his nose, or how he looked, and that did hurt his feelings.

Jack had a focus on his friends more than his own family. In fact, he was extremely disrespectful to his mom, and he ignored Gerroson. If Samantha asked for him to wear a coat, he wouldn't. Even if it was cold outside. He spoke disrespectfully, as well. Not a good child at all. As for Randy, they often fought, but would make up. If anything, he was more of a sibling to Jack than Gerroson.

In sixth grade, Randy started to become better friends with Henry, which made no sense to Jack. Not in the slightest. Henry seemed like a plastic doll, fake. And for some reason, Randy wasn't able to see past that facade. Before long, Henry noticed Jack's indifference towards him, and began to secretly try to break up Jack and Randy's friendship. He would be callous and rude to Jack, poking fun at anything he could. His adoption, his nose, anything. When Jack would bring up his dislike for Henry, Randy would retort with disbelief. How could someone so nice do all of that? It caused a bump in their friendship, which is exactly what Henry wanted.

He failed to notice Gerrosonsed relationship with Eliza. He failed to notice how sad Gerroson was when he discovered her death. Well, he noticed Gerroson being mopey, he just didn't care to ask. He wasn't a good brother. He's hubristic, cocky, but insecure and unsure over aspects of himself and his life. He thought he was better than some adopted kid in this unstable country. He was better than Gerroson, that's for sure. Right?

When it first began to be cold, it was discovered that he outgrew his coat, and she tried to find something for him. Unfortunately, all she found was a woollen poncho. It was hers, that's what she wore for a coat. White, with one button. And Jack got angry that it was such a girly thing, that he wouldn't be caught dead in. He told her it was stupid, and stormed off.

In seventh grade, he, Randy, and Henry had a newcomer to their friend circle; Paul. They always noticed Paul, and, quite honestly, had their eyes glaze over the boy, but now they realized how foolish that was. Paul was funny! Very funny, and smart! Sure, not as smart as maybe Henry, but he was so much more enjoyable than Henry. They spent a lot of time having fun, and making videotapes of pure idiocy. Many of them included Paul eating the strangest things. For some reason, Paul liked to eat weird things. Gosh dang it, Paul.

Samantha's Death

Freshman year was like most freshman years. It was the year he met a green haired English kid named Carl. Kind of an embarrassing story, really. He was trying to get a pencil in Biology class, as they were learning about Darwinism. To the sound of the robotic narrator, stating the mating behavior of the emu, he accidentally toppled the desk over. Carl spoke up, and referred to him as an emu. Boom. Friends for life with the British kid. Anyway. He was busy, rebellious, tried to hide the fact that he sometimes kept the light on, whatever. But it was also a year that changed his life forever. Samantha liked to garden, and she would always offer for Jack to come and help her. Usually, he would refuse, and she then would make it a chore to at least force time together. That's not what happened this time, but it did happen before.

The day that it happened, he was carrying a watering pot to Samantha. Begrudgingly, he might add; she barred in from going out that day. And on that day, he saw a witch for the very first time. He watched it set its eyes on Samantha, he watched her eyes bulge with realization of the danger.

There was always a relation to Gerroson in Jack, especially in their behaviors. At the root of Jack's instincts, the most animalistic part inside of him, lied the influence of Gerroson's behavior. When there is fear, a gecko will cease movement, in hopes a predator will not spot them.

Jack was so stricken with fear that he was glued to his spot. He did not move. He watched his mother become destroyed, he watched her die. And to this day, he doesn't talk about what happened. When the witch, seemingly infuriated for whatever reason, left, he gave into another animalistic response.

He screamed, which lead to Gerroson fumbling outside to see the source of the noise. Out of panic, and to find the next adult he could to help, he ran to Randy's house, and asked for his parents. Randy, when he snuck out to see what could possibly be all the fuss, saw the wreckage of her body.

The funeral was an average funeral, they all lamented the death of a well-loved police officer. And Jack, Jack lost his parent, his only parent. Very quickly did he realize all he took for granted, and he was very quickly overcome with remorse. How cruel was he to behave like that?

Gerroson wasn't considered a legal guardian at the time, and unless he found someone who could, he was told that Jack would be sent to a foster care system again. Fortunately, he found Randy's parents, and asked them to be a guardian. It was decided that Jack would share Randy's room, and Timmy got to himself, but Randy didn't care. He was glad his best friend wasn't going away. It was the last time Jack spoke to Gerroson for many years.

After that, Jack's grief lead his personality to spiral, as he was desperately searching for something to be mad at, something that wasn't him. His pathological lying worsened, and he denied any relation to Gerroson at all. He fabricated a lot of things, many fictional stories. Even if Gerroson was looking at Jack for help, he wouldn't stop for him. He treated Gerroson just like everyone else had, like something separate from humanity. Separate from him. Randy noticed this lying, and disapproved, but what could he do? Jack developed a very bad attitude, and it even stressed Randy out.

Henry didn't believe that a witch killed Samantha, nor that she was murdered. He even took a locket Jack had and carried of Samantha in private, and broke it in front of Jack. This event deeply seated Jack's hate of Henry.

In tenth grade year, Randy and Jack had a very bad fight, and they decided to duke it out in the most creative way they could. The Prank War. The loser had to dye their hair of the other's choosing. Many things were done. Randy was pantsed so many times. Jack got scared into running into a tree in his boxers into a hoard of girls. It was torture for everyone else to endure. They both ended up losing, and Carl got to chose who's hair color got who. Randy got blue, and Jack pink. It was the time of Carl's life.

In eleventh grade, Jack got Mr. Herendez as a teacher. Mr. Herendez already knew of Jack from Gerroson, so he could easily see through any disillusioned lie Jack may have tried to impose on him. Unfortunately for Jack, Mr. Herendez wound up exposing to the entire class he was mostly a very fake boy, and resolved to call Jack Lizard Boy. After word spread around, everyone knew about just how much Jack lied about himself, which put a lot of people off.

Then came the day Henry gave Randy weed brownies on purpose, without Randy knowing they were. They didn't kick in until they were watching a movie together late at night, and Randy started to freak out. When Jack realized what Henry had done, he was very, very mad. Jack was so infuriated with Henry, whom he always despised to finally hurt his best friend this way, he found Henry the next day, and shouted at him for everything he did. Over his despicable nature, everything. It was a pity that Henry took very unkindly to this. In fact, Henry decided to shatter everyone's will the best he could.

He also decided to shatter Randy's will by hinting to the school Randy should be taking the next drug test. For reasons, of course. That way, since Randy already had gotten the high from the weed brownie, he'd definitely fail and lose any chance of college, and be kicked out of theatre, track, and cross country. When Henry told him this would happen, Randy lost his ever loving mind and went on a full panic mode. This worked.

For Jack, he spread rumors around the school, including one that Jack spread STD's to two girls, which caused Jack and those two girls to get severely bullied and largely ignored by the opposite sex. The two girls even lost their boyfriends, who thought they had cheated on them, and passing on them the disease. When Jack denied this rumor being true, he told everyone to "not forget Jack is a liar."

When it came to Carl, who was not out at the time, he had told the religious sect of the school of Carl's homosexuality, and coerced others to believe that being gay was wrong. As more and more people found out about Carl's sexuality, they would avoid him or make derogatory comments towards him. Eventually, the only ones who would talk to him was Jack, Paul, and Randy.

Jack did still date girls, though. His most serious girlfriend was someone named Nicole. They're still friends, and it was as happy as a break-up can be. Honestly, he was suprised she didn't break up with him when he accidentally puked on her at prom. He also went to Ireland at a school trip, and while he was there he ended up trying to support Carl in a gay pride parade in a dress Carl picked out.

After highschool, they saved up to get their own place. It was a bachelor pad, except Starla came over all the time. And then somehow she moved in and it became a third-wheel-pad. It didn't matter though, Jack was happy.

Eventually, Randy and Jack had a short girl named Lily show up at their door, with a wild proposition. A few days later after that, no later than two, Randy received a call from Jack's old neighbor, Mrs. Burrs. A call intending for Jack, from Samantha's old friend. She was a sweet, middle-aged woman who served as a veterinarian, someone Samantha would call off and on for consultations regarding Gerroson. In all honesty, Jack was more annoyed than anything. In Yarsivec, going out past 11 is against the law, and looked down upon. So, her calling past eleven was quite the hinderance. It was a call intending for Jack, because his brother had attempted suicide, and she had pulled him out of pond.

Jack, finding guilt, decided to come to Lily on one agreement: that Gerroson would be allowed with. She seemingly refused at first, but after giving it some thought, agreed.
