Personality

"Isn't it amazing? A little stroke here, a little dash there. And it could completely change!"

[Curious, Mysterious, Calm, Playful]

Calm and ever amiable. It’s rare to see Ivair emit anything other than a calm aura. He seems to always have a small smile and a knowing look in his eye, almost as if he’s waiting for you to follow his script for him to respond accordingly. While Ivair is easy-going and appears quite docile, he does not bend easily. You’ll sooner find yourself re-negotiating terms that seem to suit Ivair a bit too well than have him ever give you more than an inch. He knows when he’s being played and he’ll gladly play you right back with the most pleasant of smiles.

Ivair generally appears gentle and kind—if not a little mysterious due to his ever present smile— but will typically always be on “for the greater good” side. He can be quite merciless and it can be chilling how cold-hearted he is—of course, always with a pleasant smile—when making cut-throat decisions.

He enjoys teasing his friends and co-workers and is always up for a little fun. He enjoys trying new things, visiting new places and seeing what life has to offer him. It’s all good if things don’t work out, Ivair simply shrugs his shoulders with a laugh and moves. He really loves to travel and always tries to do so when (and also always attempts to go on research expeditions).

One can find that Ivair’s easily distracted by stray thoughts, his mind immediately racing along his new thoughts. Abruptly pausing mid-conversation and running off to find something to jot his down thoughts isn’t an uncommon sight.

Above all, Ivair is extremely passionate about his work. He is in love with studying En. And enjoys trying to push the limits of the magic laws. A little tweak here and there, he simply can't resist trying new ways to structure En.

Background

The possibilities are endless!

Ivair is the head researcher in the capital for En; Magic. He has quite a few achievements under his name, from developing easier, more efficient ways for certain spells to changing the basis of magic circles. Ivair delights in trying new ways to bring forth magic and is always experimenting new ways to bend magic to his will.

The current holder of the title “First Witch,” Ivair is one of the most powerful witches currently in existence. Ivair holds an almost unlimited amount of mana. He can wield a vast—seemingly unlimited—amount of staffs. The number is unknown because there has not yet been a need to amplify his power to such a degree.

He has impeccable control of his mana, able to tweak and adjust accordingly to the flow around him. On top of that, his familiar is the white phoenix of the legends. A familiar that had started off as a rampaging spirit before being forcefully subdued by him.

Was it wrong of me to yearn?

Born with a weak constitution, Ivair spent most of his childhood inside. The fight between his fae and human blood was wreaking havoc on his core. So, in turn, his body was using too much of its resources to keep them in balance. It is still unknown why they were warring with each other when plenty of half-fae were fine.

His father saw this war as destiny. With Ivair, he could be strong again. Fae blood was strong, they had a stronger grasp on magic, their mana more sensitive to En. And his father began to obsess over it. Obsess over making Ivair better, more powerful so he could be powerful too. Ivair was subject to many experiments and perhaps that is why his mana is so unlimited. A mix match of everything. A drop here and there. And then he was dying—his body unable to handle the amount of “power” his father was trying to bless him with.

Ivair wanted to be with his father so he participated with a naive excitement. He sometimes thought perhaps it was his fault. He had been so starved for his father’s attention and earnestly gave his childish opinions to his father. Agreed to try everything, just to see his father’s attention directed at him for once.

But he was dying. And his father couldn’t see it until Ivair’s grandmother had slapped it into him.

Gentle carvings into his skin, his grandmother forged a temporary seal for him. A beautiful bloom of branches all over his body. It would keep the war inside his body at bay by dampening his magic while she looked to lessen the damage already done onto him.

His father came into his room one night, a small picnic basket in one hand and eyes crinkled with a grin.

“Let’s go see the stars, Ivair. Just like we used to.”

Looking back, he could admit that his father had seemed different that night. Yet, no different. Maybe that was why he had been so eager to go along. Because his father had simply been his father from a different time. A time when his father had been at peace with their life.

And he guessed his father had been. At peace with his decision. Had it been an apology? He’d never know.

The Fae Gods offered a game.

A trial of the soul.

Curb the flame, find equality.

Ivair watched his father go up in flames. There was no fear in father’s eyes, even as his skin crackled and melted. Just a calm acceptance but still full of expectations.

“I believe in you. The power inside you, it’s your destiny.”

As his father’s skin blackened and peeled. Ivair’s eyes were finally opened to his father’s.

His insanity.

His death.

“One last experiment Ivair. One last time.”
“But, I don’t want this.”
“Just one more. I promise.”

The flames lit up his seal, licking into his En and soul. And he felt it. His En finally turned themselves away from each other and towards the Fae Gods’ flames. Coming together in a tentative cohesion, Ivair began to slowly ebb and curb the flames within him until all that remained was a flicker. A flicker that became snuffed out by his En embracing itself.

He had finally reached equilibrium.

“You’re free now.”

Other

A passing curiosity, an easy slip through En's slumber.
A small fragment dropped and bloomed.
"I wonder how you'll do."
