history

Mia grew up on Pervigeo, a β€œplanet” made up of a selection of β€œhome bubbles” which attach to one bigger gathering space. Her parents had moved to Pervigeo shortly after Florence (Mia’s mother) was accepted into the Court of Divinity. Mia’s father, Helios, was an astronomer, unfortunately though, he died shortly after Mia was born. Helios’s death led Florence to become overprotective of Mia, trying her best to shelter her from the dangers of the world, afraid she’d meet the same fate. Mia doesn’t know anyone outside Pervigeo and has never left the planet. Initially in her childhood, Mia didn’t sway from her curiosity despite her mothers attempts, often being impulsive and going in places she wasn’t supposed to out of a desire to learn and understand. This behavior dissipated after a key event in Mia’s life, though.

When Mia was young, she and a group of friends ventured out to where Pervigeo’s Terraworms lived. Mia initially persuaded her friends to go back and leave the terraworms alone, knowing her mothers warnings about how although they were mostly passive, could become hostile when threatened. Florence, however, walked in at the wrong place, at the wrong time, and believed Mia was risking her life, so she scolded her. Mia, upset at her mother, retaliated by approaching the Terraworms, which, of course, lead to Mia being almost killed by one. Although her mother (thankfully) saved her, the event made it so Mia was TERRIFIED of the unknown from that moment forward, only keeping her curiosity towards her studies and dreams rather than actually pursuing them.

As mentioned before, despite developing a fear of the unknown, Mia is also incredibly enticed by the concept of adventuring. She often read fantasy books, imagining herself running off and learning about the world on her own. She, like her father, desires to be an astronomer, and to learn about the universe. Her mother, however, persuades her to choose another career path, afraid she’ll meet the same fate her father did if she pursued her dreams. Mia was often viewed as a peculiar girl in Pervigeo, given her quiet, and often aloof demeanor. Though she striked up insightful conversations with whoever had the courage to talk to her, she rarely made any proper friends that lasted.

One day, while Florence had left for a business meeting, Mia was saddled with caretaker duties. She eventually ran into the rift on Pervigeo, and fell in, leading to her meeting other teens like her who were all tasked to stop a man called The Spy from setting off an event that could end up destroying the universe as they know it.

Β "A wise woman said I’m alive, nobody’s ever told her she’s wrong. A paella of space-talking jive, i’m as alive as her beard is long."Β

For most people, Mia is a peculiar girl, often being perceived as quiet and aloof. Though she keeps to herself and doesn’t really stand out in a crowd of people at first, those who try to dig deeper discover there’s more to her than meets the eye. Though she can at first seem β€œstuck in her own head”, she is far from stupid, in-fact being quite witty when given the chance to speak. She often loves to debate ethical, and philosophical dilemmas with others, and tries to find meaning in everyday things. Mia has aspirations of studying and exploring the worlds beyond, she loves space, stars, and the planets and wants to study them when she's older, much to the dismay of her mother.

Despite her habit of keeping to herself, when given the time to shine she can be an excellent leader, but she is often overshadowed by her more outgoing and confident peers. Linking into this, she also struggles with her identity. Because of her fear of the unknown, she’s terrified of change, but is also desperately craving some sort of meaning in her life. Her head is racing with ideas and wants to explore the world beyond, but she refuses to embrace her adventurous side because of her fears. The unknown both entices and terrifies Mia, making her feel like she wants to take a shot and just let it go, but at the same time being engulfed with doubts of what could go wrong. So, she stays stationary like a statue and doesn’t let herself embrace what she truly wants. Although she finds comfort in things staying the same, it can’t help her from yearning for something more.

The person most important to Mia is well, Jack. She swears to keep him safe at all costs as he is special to her. Being the first person to really encourage Mia to embrace the unknown, she believes that the two of them were meant to be. Jack helps bring out the adventure in her, and takes interest in the things she loves. As she develops, she learns to crack out of her shell and learn about the world beyond, and herself.
