At first glance, Nate seems to just be a rude individual, not getting too close to anyone and constantly keeping a look out for his sister, Lia. All he can really seem to care about is her (and his friends) safety above all else, and doesn’t really care for anything beyond that, but deeper beneath this cold appearance is a boy who was forced to grow up all too soon.

Being forced to take a parent role to take care of his sister at a young age, he matured quickly, repressing any “childish” behaviors and emotions so he can put up a strong appearance to keep any tormentors at bay. Along with that, he began throwing himself into studying, constantly preparing for the future so he can make sure he can keep his loved ones safe. He fears losing control thus letting those he cares about get hurt as a result, so he constantly feeds himself more knowledge not only to get ahead, but to be ready to help Lia and his friends whenever they are in need.

Nate is usually pretty reserved, as mentioned before he rarely ever gets close to people, trust being a hard thing for him to form. He is usually serious and to the point, not liking to mess around too much, only wanting to get whatever is needed to be completed done. Loyal to a front he will do whatever it takes to keep the safety of his loved ones in check, being aggressive to those who try to harm them and not hesitating to bite back if someone tries to put up a fight.

He can be pessimistic, looking on the negative rather than the positive of things (a harsh contrast to his upbeat optimistic sister) and usually speaks with sarcasm. He is also intelligent (as to be expected from his constant research) and is a decent leader when he gets his attitude in check. Despite his colder and more critical exterior, he is incredibly compassionate to those he trusts, almost always putting his own needs aside if it means their happiness (a habit he desperately needs to break out of).

Again because of his need to mature quickly, Nate never got to experience a proper childhood and hasn’t been given the luxury of letting himself enjoy that period of life while he had it. He refuses to let himself have any fun, even if he knows he’d prefer it over doing the same boring, mundane things all day. Kai is the one who helps bring out the fun in Nate though, as he being the absolute Disaster he is knows above all else on how to have a good time. They compliment one another in that way, Nate showing Kai when to get serious, and Kai showing Nate how to have a loosen up and let himself be well…a child.

They also help each other mature emotionally, as both of them are relatively stunted from their…not great upbringings, teaching each other how to be happy with themselves, and see beyond what they are “meant to do” for others (Nate being “meant” to protect and Kai being “meant” to perform). Despite being completely different on the surface, they end up working incredibly well together, and yes they do end up in a romantic relationship everyone clap
