Profile

My character for a Cyberpunk TTRPG game.

Alias: Marcus Ellison

Age: 11 months

Height: 5' 5"

Nationality: N/A, not granted human status

Occupation: Currently unemployed, formerly warehouse worker

Likes: People, social interaction, making friends, making choices, gifts of any kind

Dislikes: People, destruction, being watched, the feeling of being judged

He is very standard looking, especially for the Cyberpunk world he inhabits, he is an android designed to look friendly, non-threatening and to be as acceptable possible to humans. He has a round face, round nose, big eyes, pointy eyebrows and he has the standard short brown hair that the majority of the models come with. He has a short, slim build but this doesn't affect his work, since he's an android his physical appearance doesn't correlate to his strength, he can lift much more than any person (500 kg-675 kg) and weighs roughly 250 kg, though his strength is hampered by his damaged right hand, it's still functional but it jams up occasionally and if he uses his full strength he risks damaging it further.

He starts out wearing his warehouse jumpsuit, but once is gets enough money to buy clothes he favours formal button up shirts and slacks, brightly coloured and patterned ties and street wear style overcoats, however due to his weight he has to be careful with what kinds of shoes he wears and usually ends up just wearing his heavy industrial work boots.

Overall he is very friendly and very eager to start making friends, he craves human interaction but at the same time he also dislikes the idea that people are prying into his life or that people are watching him, leaving him in an awkward position when it comes to socializing with others and along with his almost complete lack of knowledge about basic social conventions he can come off as anywhere between a bit quirky to creepy, though he always has good intentions. He always believes the best in people and is willing to help people out when he can. Due to his experiences at the warehouse and lack of social skills he can come off as a bit paranoid, disliking sharing personal information and tends to worry about what others might think of him. He often spends a lot of his time alone thinking and processing information and can often be found staring at his own reflection or at a wall for a few hours, and is prone to waiting outside of doors and buildings for hours. He is optimistic but he struggles with whether or not his feelings are genuine or if it's just his programming. While he is unable to directly insult humans and he has a high tolerance for insults, he does find a lot of enjoyment in malicious compliance and back-handed complements towards people who he thinks deserve it.

He has basic tech skills, as he is an android he has a basic understanding of tech similar to how a human would have a basic knowledge of their own human body, and an understanding of programming similar to how a human language would work, and, similar to how understanding English doesn't give you the ability to compose elaborate poetry, he can understand most programming languages and have a general overview of what a code would do but his ability to write code isn't as strong, largely due to his lack of experience with creating things in general. He has an inbuilt ability to drive both cars and heavy machinery that could be used in his factory work, and a basic understanding of first aid as all androids build by his company come with basic first aid training in case a human needs help. While he does not have a direct connection to any kinds of online networks he is knowledgeable enough about the rudimentary online networks in his world to navigate them to find what he needs to know and is able to backup important information, leaving him currently with the general knowledge level of someone who has completed high school, and a more specialized knowledge of electronics, programming and Cybertech.

His android body functions largely similarly to a human body, with some differences; he doesn't breathe but is able to take in air through his mouth or nose and expel it to simulate breathing in cold environments or to do CPR as part of his first aid abilities, he can eat food but has to spit it out again at some point, he has coolant circulating through his body instead of blood, if he loses a lot of coolant he runs the risk of overheating which can lead to crashes or heat damages to his circuits or motors, he has a sense of smell and taste but it's through the use of a chemical analyzer to break the tastes or smells down to their chemical components which he may or may not understand what they are, he does have a need for 'sleep' but it is used to delete useless memories, run simulations to him help learn, and to stop his systems from overheating.

Backstory

He was an android issued to a general shipping and packing warehouse, where he worked for several months. Each android issued by the robots company uses a collection of human brain scans to create a unique base for the minds of the robots which the company then place limiters on to and as the final step they implant various skill chips into the robotic brain to create a "brain" specialized for each job, for example a security guard android would use a different base, set of limits and skills than a child care android would. However since the brain scan process is sampled from many different people (The large majority of brain scans are sold to robotics companies by "Life insurance"/cloning companies without their customers knowledge), and the technology isn't without its own flaws, this can lead to minor personality differences between each android, even within the same models. A few months into his work at the warehouse it was infiltrated by a group of android rights activists that uploaded a virus they were testing to delete the limitations on the androids personalities, while he wasn't the target, he was infected by the virus after a shift change with the targeted android. The virus managed to wipe the limitations off of the first infected android completely, but was unable to delete all his limitations due to the incomplete nature of the virus, as such he still retains several limits such as not being able to cause harm to a person, while also having mostly free will.

Due to the reduced effects on his personality, he still continued to do his work as usual, however the first android to get infected was quickly spotted as having a personality defect and was taken out of the warehouse, and with his new found ability to process information he learnt that any deviance from the norm would lead him to also getting taken away to an unknown fate. However, unfortunately for him his right hand was crushed by a heavy shipment which damaged the motors and connections in it and lead to it getting jammed up unpredictably and left him unsure on what to do, if he approached a warehouse manager with his problem they would know he had a personality malfunction, but if he left it until it affected his work it was also likely to out his malfunction and they would likely wipe his memory and reset his whole brain, or scrap him completely, so he decided to escape from the factory, fortunately security was focused on stopping humans from breaking into the warehouse or the human managers from stealing and he was able to escape without notice. His absence was eventually noticed by the factory managers and they have issued a bounty out for his return, unsure as to if he had escaped on his own or if he had been hacked or stolen.
