Story
The beginning
Pietersite used to be a gem by the name of Crocidolite. They were a little grumpy all the time due to being made of easily detached fibers but they had a close-knit circle of friends who all lived on a little volcanic island together. They'd never seen the island where most gems live on at this time.
They dedicated themself to making tools and a shelter for their comrades. Life was the same for a while, until a huge lunarian weapon accidentally dropped on their tiny island, sending them flying into the sea and buried under debris where they were never found.
New skin
Crocidolite was trapped underground for many years, drifting in and out of consciousness, alone and immobilized. Time slowly lost its meaning. Eventually, they were dropped onto a beach from a cliff. Somehow, their body had been shifted from the sea to another island entirely. They awoke to find their body slightly replaced with quartz and many different colors, somewhere new.
They were found by the other gems living there and socialized into their way of life. They were named Pietersite. They were all impressed by the apparent newborn's amount of technical skill. Pietersite eventually got used to their new life, but they could feel their sense of reality breaking down. They feared that if they ever went to sleep, they'd wake up underground again.
Coming home
Pietersite was the toolmaker, weaponsmith, carpenter and clayworker for several years, but one day they found what looked like one of their old friends snooping around on the island. They chased them down, and asked to be taken home.
So, Pietersite quietly disappeared and returned to the volcanic island. They found it a different place, with many new gems who didn't know them. They aren't sure if they're happy.
