THE KALVERSE

tags: modern / urban fantasy . focused fantasy . lego

ecarro (ih-ka-row) is a fictional earth with aliens & magical elements, though everyone just calls their home earth unless you’re talking in scientific terms. everyone here is developed as human/humanoid and fit into fantasy or modern/urban fantasy settings, but I'm open to any AU. of course I’m more than happy to develop outside of the worldbuilding of these locations as well! headcanons and relations are always welcome !! ♥

locations: depending on the characters you’re looking for, there’s a big variety of locations and settings that they inhabit. a lot of the times, the names of locations (especially the names of cities in “mundane Ecarro”) that reference real places are purely referencing their architecure/layout! though not a comprehensive list, you can find the main areas in the left tab where significant story tidbits take place!

I can’t believe it - this is the eleventh hour! Psychedelic - life is such a funny journey.

Truly the city of eternal summer. This city is known for its beautiful expansive beach and playful atmosphere. Further east away from the sea, there are also a good handful of gentle hills that are suitable for casual hikers and campers.

The first story I made in this world hehe. Calli and her uncles are non-magic humans living in an apartment near the lesser populated side of the beach. After everything that happened at their kingdom ███████, Halfisa and Sébastien landed in this corner of the mundane world and began living with them, as their homeworld has now been overtaken and destroyed.

Not too far from their residence, a community library is the home of the city’s semi-hidden magic precinct. Terik, along with several other magic users (or generally those who migrated from a magic-centric world), work there to monitor magic use and keep an eye out for any potential magic-related threats in this area of mundane Ecarro. They also keep a portal there in case they get called to a mission in another kingdom.

RXVERSIDE

About 6 hours drive from Sxnta Crxz, although not the busiest city in the region, this is still a pretty popular metropolitan area that’s a great place to study, work, and raise a family. There is a pretty prestigious university at the northeastern side of the city and nearby it is home to many long-standing museums.

Not far from the University Village neighbourhood is Morpheus, one of the most artsy neighbourhoods in the state featuring ocean-themed streets and unusual plants decorating every sidewalk.

KAMWAKI ISLANDS

Mae’s world ♡ A beautiful line of islands surrounded by the vast blue sea. A popular tourist attraction, though some people still like to stay here longterm. The most populated area is a small township by the beach that thrives off of the sea and its tourism.

A notable population of merfolk also live in this area.

BXRLIN

A highly populated but relatively safe city, mostly because there is a high population of elders here - it looks like folks like to retire here, and although this city is home to some of the best elementary and secondary schools in the country, once the kids graduate they tend to move out to explore different parts of the world.

Bxrlin is home to many well-known museums, galleries, orchestras and stadiums. As much as the lakes within the city are also a popular tourist attraction, it has been transitioning into a natural reserve/conservatory in the past few years. There are also a couple of “countryside” cities nearby that are about 45 minutes by the regional train.

ASKAYJI

The kingdom currently ruled by the Croivau royal family. Being geographically near Jasmeosia (the region with the greatest diversity of plants), Askayji (ahs-kay-jee) has vast lands suitable for agriculture and lots of grassland animals roam about around here.

Askayji is still somewhat backwards in its magic system as magic is still pretty much reserved to the nobility and is believed to be a divine right. However, after centuries of this philosophy the land and culture of Askayji has evolved to build a society that really doesn’t need magic, so the usefulness of magic has effectively been relegated to a topic of social status chatter among the nobles.

Thank you Mandy for the name of this kingdom big love 🫶🫶

JASMEOSIA

Jasmeosia (yaz-may-oh-zi-yah; pronunciation with a j sound instead of y is also okay!) is a country known for its wide variety of botany. The weather is mild year-round, lending to an abundance of evergreen trees that are comfortable never drastically changing colours or shedding leaves. Many types of fresh fruits are available in rotation year round, which are a popular item of trade exported to nearby regions.

Florists and potion sellers are very popular jobs to take up here, and many people interested in this favourable field of study immigrate to this country. Although nature magic is used quite often here, there is a rise of alchemy where magic can be harnessed and enhanced with the help of herbs and potions, which has caused a debate between the “old faith” of magic-using and the new wave of magic users.

Jasmeosia is also the name of big forest bordering Askayji and Jasmeosia (the kingdom), known among the people as Jasmeosia Woods. It is partially owned by Askayji as a couple of trade routes are established by the edges of the forest, for the purpose of Jasmeosia and Askayji’s traders to import and export things.

LUKGAM/LUJIN

Lukgam (Cantonese pronunciation luk6 gam2, pinyin spelled lù jǐn), written as 鹿锦 (lit. meaning deer beauty), along with its neighbouring region Iwalan, is one of the oldest regions with a rich history and evolving culture, which in current times makes it a popular tourist attraction among folks living in the magic-centric realm. Similar to Askayji, most of the folk in Lukgam does not wield magic and does not need personal magic in their daily lives. Instead of a monarchy, this region along with its adjacent regions (including Iwalan) are ruled by deities and similar great supernatural beings.

Many mortals have taken up a pursuit of martial arts and should they choose so, embark on a journey to ascension where they take on mentorship from those residing in the heavenly realm. While deities are capable of coming down to the mortal realm to defend their people against evil spirits that can attack the common people, it is usually those enlightened mortals who help defend others to uphold their chivalric code.

Lukgam has a good balance of nature and townscapes, with most of the land being residential. The architecture of Lukgam is similar to ancient Chinese and Korean architecture, with warm colour schemes, naturally sunlit courtyards and landscaped gardens, with fruit tree planting being one of the prominent hobbies of the elderly. The buildings are mostly created from a combination of wood and stone with an eaved clay tile rooftop.

IWALAN

Iwalan is a nearby region to Lukgam that along with neighbours, has a very rich history going back thousands of years. There are still undiscovered spells recorded in cave walls, ancient monasteries, and historical temples scattered around the outskirts of the land, which makes this a popular place for magic scholars. Most citizens, however, prefer to reside in the bustling main cities which perpetually provides a lively atmosphere day and night.

Although it has a gentle climate, it is composed of lots of rocky mountains, which makes it less suitable for agriculture. Most of the agriculture are on built terraced fields, mainly used to plant spell herbs. Nature magic is one of the predominant magic practised here, and this includes hemomancy (a more parasitic subdivision of nature magic) - in fact, it’s one of the few regions where blood magic is also legalized.
