prompt one: the miasma descends

It is the last day of the Grand Tourney, and spirits are high. The final grand champion of the tournament will be crowned, prizes will be given out, and then it is time to pack up and go home.

It happens almost too fast for anyone to react. Around midday, a commotion erupts in the audience—people are screaming, and running away, but suddenly, the panicked crowds fall silent and still as a strange mist descends upon them. It quickly covers the tournament grounds, then begins to spread across the town of Mead, but it doesn’t seem to go beyond the town borders.

All around your character, people fall to the ground, suddenly swept into a dreaming sleep, expressions of bliss and happiness on their faces, save for a few, who seem trapped in a nightmare.

Does your character fall into a dream world of their own, or do they resist the lure of sleep?

prompt two: dream wasteland

The monster, if that’s what it could be called, shows no signs of retreating or moving. The mist has slowly begun to creep outside of Mead, but it seems to be a slow process. Witnesses have reported a few people stumbling out of the mist, confused and disoriented, many of them lamenting waking up from whatever dreams they had.

It is reported that the King is safe and unharmed, having left the tournament mere hours before it happened.

The Order and its mage protectors, those who weren’t present at the time of the monster eruption, have set up a camp a safe distance away from Mead, to observe and figure out how to defeat it, as well as help the victims.

Does your character join forces with the Order, or do they work on their own?

prompt three: dreams and delusions

The fog still lies thick over Mead. In the rest of Ivras, news has spread and been hotly debated—what kind of monster is this? Is it even a monster? It is unlike anything that has been seen before.

As time passes, the miasma shows no signs of abating, though there has been a steady trickle of people making it out of the mist, some of them gathering outside it.

Interestingly enough, there have also been people who, after having gotten out, immediately try to return into the mist, talking about how their perfect lives await them. Some have been restrained for their own safety, but the mage protectors—and others—gathered outside Mead can’t help everyone.

Would your character try to keep others from going back into the fog?

prompt four: wasting away

Witnesses report that parts of the fog seems to be thinning out, especially in the northern parts of Mead, though others say that the Miasma has begun to move southwards. The large skeleton that seems to be the center of it all has been sighted, even from outside the mist, though only in brief glimpses. There have been many debates whether the efforts to defeat it have been effective or not.

Many of the inhabitants of Mead who have made it out have camped on the outskirts of the town, with whatever they have managed to bring with them; many only have the clothes on their backs and little else. Surrounding villages and farmsteads have offered food and aid.

Voices have been raised against how both the King and the Order have handled the whole thing, but there have also been protests against what some believe is a Wild Mage conspiracy. Gossip and rumors are everywhere.

What does your character think about it? Are they still trapped in the mist, or have they made it out?
