As in, things you often see in designs a lot that you don't like yourself. Like trends.

I wondered this as I'm not a fan of colored teeth and bones yet I love colorful blood and whatnot. Yet people are making colored teeth/bones a popular thing now? (Seeing, say, blue-colored teeth, for example, looks...kinda wrong to me?)

The only rule is that you aren't allowed to attack people and such because they don't like something you like and vice versa. Be kind and civil.
Also, species don't count. This is about things like a kind of marking and the like.

Witchyy I think that those are sphinx-inspired characters you're looking at! Since sphinxes have an animal body and a human face and all.

For stuff I dislike:

  • Overly fat characters in general. Chubby characters are fine and good, but you can really easily tell when someone has a fat fetish.
  • Humanoid characters with wings that do not have the extra pectorals to match them.
  • On top of that, humanoid characters with wings that realistically should not be able to lift them either due to being too small or simply lacking the muscle needed for it
  • demons that are actually just a bishie with like... horns slapped onto them.
  • Fancharacters. Most of my dislike for these came from the fact that whenever anyone posts a fucking fancharacter in the artfight minigames, they often ignore the rule that you need a second non-fan-oc alternative and thus stall the game for the next 12 hours. Alternatively the non-fan-oc alternative is such a bland and boring alternative that its not even worth it.
  • Oc's that look nice but have no substance behind them. Maybe the artists have story for them outside of TH, but generally its the cutesy characters that i just realistically cannot think of how one would make an interesting story and lore for them?

Characters with fantasy traits that are written like a normal human character. If everything about their story, the setting they live in and even the way they dress and act is just normal, everyday stuff then what's even the point? Just make them a normal human.

Also not a big fan of traits mish-mash, like having cat ears and tail but also feather wings and a halo, or antlers and a mermaid tail. Just pick one thing and stick to it. Piling random traits on a character dilutes their identity and makes them harder to connect to.

Also flower crowns. There's nothing wrong with them but they make me irrationally angry.

-I personally don't like it when characters' eyes are completely covered with a fringe. Especially if there is no real reason or explanation. I just don't like the look and as someone who has bangs it makes me feel second-hand discomfort. There is nothing worse than getting bangs in your eyes!

-I don't think this is intentional but children who have a listed age like 4-7 but are consistently drawn as if they are at least 10 if not 13.

-Asian characters that are drawn as white. Obviously art style varies but I've seen semi-realistic art where this is very apparent. Again probably unintentional or a misunderstanding idk.

-I'm very iffy on vitiligo. Just because it's a genuine thing that people deal with and it usually seems like it's included for trendy or aesthetic reasons. For example, alopecia is actually a more common autoimmune disorder (2% to vitiligo's .05-1%) that impacts people's appearance but I can't say I've ever seen an oc with alopecia before because it's not ~aesthetic~ I guess.

-I don't mind femboys but I do think they are really over-represented.

I'm actually really surprised at the number of people who have listed different color palettes. Not particularly with my characters but I definitely feel guilty about my art, though I'm not sure what I could do to fix it.

'Kinsonas' get my goat like nothing else. I have no problem with otherkin or fictionkin, but kinsonas are transparently rip offs of existing characters. Why would you want to base your entire art persona on something derivative?

  • I'm gonna have to agree with everyone saying kinsonas/taking a character but making it furry, but I wanna add: they make me especially angry when I find them on here. This is supposed to be a website for original characters, and there's nothing original about taking a canon character, not changing their outfits/accessories/color scheme/personality, even their relationships sometimes because you link them to other kinsonas, and just turning it into a dog/fox/pony/cat/whatever.
  • Closed species. Most of them are just not... original. It's just another type of angel or satyr or animal/food mix, or animal/plant mix, or animal/object mix... you get it now. But yeah, I haven't seen any really original CS so far.
  • Kemonomimis with human ears. Why have animal ears if you've also got human ones?
MagicMan

Bandaids all over the legs/arms/face. I just don't like it.

Ahoge (that piece of stray hair sticking up from some anime characters heads) especially if it's specifically shaped, like a heart. The Japanese name literally means "idiot hair" and is usually used to emphasize that a character is foolish or clumsy, thus their hair is somewhat disheveled. But I see people putting this trait on even characters who are supposed to be more elegant, which I don't get.
In real life, having a random piece of hair stick out is just annoying and I guarantee it doesn't have the same effect as in anime. And it certainly wouldn't be able to hold shape. The only way you'd get a heart shaped piece of hair sticking up off the top of your head is if you used a lot of hair gel, and even then, it may not last for very long.

Kidcore (and by extension, most "aesthetics" that end in -core.) Most of the time it's just making an OC that has bright primary colors, and it's not really nostalgic or kidlike at all. Also most "kidcore" creators seem to make their "kidcore" OC needlessly edgy, like oh, your OC is supposed to be based on the Hello Kitty kind of aesthetic but with more primary characters, but said OC is also a gore character and stupidly edgy. "Kidcore" doesn't scream childlike or nostalgia at all, it screams "I'm an edgy tumblr teen". Doesn't help that a lot of kidcore aesthetics seem to be made for a creepy purpose, and it's weird seeing adults overly obsessed with kid stuff.

Like someone else wrote two pages before here, those animals with human heads.

I see them everywhere now and they're just weird and actually pretty ugly to me. Even if they have wonderful colors which I might like  , I still hate them, sry :')

Senswii

i... really dont like characters that portray the artist with a sona counterpart including personality traits they obviously dont have... too many times have i seen people who make a sweet looking friendly character with "uwus" and shit, the artist glamoring about how their character is literally them, and them being an actual asshole when you get to know them. its just really deceiving..?

Loving this thread so far. Obvious disclaimer that there's really no styles or choices I hate, just personal preferences really. Let's see...

  • Either drawing all of your chubby characters exclusively with very large stomachs or exclusively with small waists and flatter stomachs. Idk, I prefer variety in my chub and I think it's important to demonstrate that chubby characters can still like... be shaped differently and not just "completely round" or "hourglass but thicker."
  • oh gosh what do i call it... that happy open mouth that's round at the bottom but looks like a v on top? Plenty of people do it and it's fine but it looks weird to me idk.
  • Idk if this is popular necessarily but cartoony styles where the top half looks normal but the legs are two thick rectangles with no curvature, like a minecraft character. Unless that's supposed to be mimicking minecraft in which case it makes sense?
  • Excessive decora and bandages? It's fine on a few characters but when it's on like, all of your characters I find it stands out less and just looks samey.

feral animals w/ piercings (mostly dogs and cats) is a bit odd to me? don't get me wrong i love piercings and wish i had more myself but it's a bit strange seeing a literal dog decked out w/ 50 different earrings and plugs, lip rings, nose rings, ect

i'm fine w/ it on anthros bc ig they're humanoid? but i don't get it on ferals ;w; it's just a thing i see multiple times a day browsing TH and i don't personally see the appeal (but obv go for it if that's what u like!)
