Hey guys,

so lately I found out that deviantart is switching to Eclipse completely and many people don't seem to like it.

I think I won't be leaving deviantart, but it'll be hard loosing people to talk to.

If you're using deviantart, I wanna know from you:

1. Are you leaving or staying? And why?

2. If you leave, where will you be going to? Which are good sites to meet weird/artsy people?

.

..Yeah I know, there should have been a poll option with "No, nothing changes" ^^'

I really don't know what to do with a dead devianrtart and all the corona going on....

I had already put in other posts how much I hate that Deviantart's administrators don't listen to the users and above all I hate the image compression...

Questions:

1) I won't leave, but I consider it complicated to keep uploading images, I'm not very active in any of my accounts, but I use Stash to upload my orders. Also because it is another place where I can sell and as long as there are people who want to buy something I will be there.

2) I have used all the existing sites and I always come back to DA, it was a very good site. I use Instagram, but more like a weird stress diary xD

I will start looking at the recommended sites, I hope I do well.

3) I don't consider TH as an alternative to leave DA, although it's good for buying and selling, it's a bit complicated to make it a gallery.

But I think TH is a great community, I'm still here *u*

1. I'm probably gonna leave mostly, eclipse is hard on my sensitive eyes and just generally hard to use. i loved the site :(

2. probably here, tumblr and twitter

i already don't post that much but im staying, been around since the dawn of it (from like 2004 tbqh) so i'm good! they're always messing around with shit, i think i can survive this atrocity somehow lul

I don't use DA anymore, I don't think I'd ever come back to it anyway, however I think Eclipse was a step in the right direction. DA has always been a disgustingly outdated dinosaur of a website, and up until Eclipse made an appearance, the only reason the UI was easy to navigate was because most had been there too long to get used to anything else. Eclipse gave the site a much needed overhaul and breath of fresh air, and tbh I want them to keep updating the site to keep it looking fresh.

That being said, I do have several gripes with Eclipse, namely the poor optimization, in-your-face color schemes, and profile layouts. Eclipse runs like GTA V on a 2008 Dell computer, horrible. Even my PC, which, while outdated asf, can still run monstrously intensive games, hates navigating Eclipse. It's highly unfriendly to lower end devices and I kinda wish it was as seamless to navigate as most modern websites. Other sites that have had to overhaul themselves to a more modern state still manage to run very well even with animations and large images rivaling those of DA, so why couldn't they optimize?

Also, the color theme selection for eclipse suuuucks. The Green/Older is the most friendly on the eyes currently, with dark mode in second, but even dark mode has far too much contrast to be comfortable to navigate for a long time, the bright white text layered over near pitch-black backgrounds is awful on the eyes. For a site run by supposedly artists, they really could not take the time to reference other sites/services like discord that did dark mode right? Really? Light mode just, sucks, goodbye eyes, shit's a flashbang.

On that topic, profile customization sucks now, I mean, it already sucked before but it sucks even more now. Non-core profile directories? Gone, DA ID? Gone. But same shitty tiny little gallery preview that shows maybe 10 of your deviations at a time? Check! They really looked at the old site and were like, "MmmMmm people's profiles don't look similar enough to each other, let's fix that!" Then took 5 steps back. Pretty annoying. I don't blame people for wanting the old site back, even though I don't feel the same way, considering DA managed to mishandle eclipse that badly, I do hope they fix it up before switching over completely, Eclipse could be great if DA listened a bit more.

I don't use DA much anymore anyway, because I had to make a new account which forced Eclipse. I'm stuck in it and can't toggle it off, it's been like that for months.
Undecided whether I'll stay or not. I may keep using the site as an art "backup" if there's enough people left on DA to make me posting and trying to submit to groups (which is a pain in the ass because Eclipse broke it) worth the effort.

My current main art site is Twitter, I guess. Or wherever ends up being the best for my art. We'll see.

i'm not super active on deviantart in the first place anymore tbh. i'll probably keep up using it how i am now, just posting pretty rarely and not really interacting with the site outside of that, just to have another place to put my art. i might end up just slowly drifting away from dA but i don't think i'll be consciously deciding to leave

1 - Mostly leaving. I plan to stop posting entirely, but keep using sta.sh and the point system, for adopts and commissions. My account is locked into eclipse anyway...

2 - I'll be sticking to instagram and here, I think.

I would definitely consider coming back to DA if eclipse was fully functional, and less clunky. It's impossible to add journals to groups, plus a lot of other important things... Like the site colors, which I really hope they change.

1. i'm staying. i joined in 2019, when eclipse was already implemented for new users, meaning i never got the chance to use the classic site. but i might have to for a different reason. basically, my school provided me with a wifi hotspot and I've been using VPN to get around blocked sites like deviantart, discord, etc. but lately VPN isn't working.

2. i wish i could say Instagram or twitter, but those are blocked for me as well. that's kind of why I'm starting to be more active here.

Great-Vegetables

1.) I have to leave because Eclipse gives me hella migraines.  Also when it comes to this eclipse thing. People have become very rude on the Deviant Art forums especially most veteran members and volunteers. It also seems like the site has gone downhill. Eclipse seemed like a fresh coat of paint. It's legitimately not even that. It's the hugest deviant art Recode.

2.) I'm mainly staying here and posting my fan art to Instagram. Because it seems like the best option at this point in time. Because the Deviantart Wix image URLs.  Just junk up the coding processes.

Aaaaaaand I just had 8 spambots in my notifications. There are constant spambot problems and staff thinks the problem they should focus on is the site layout? Priorities.

Just more reasons for me to put in the "leave" pile.

PinkyFlamingo

i only use dA to buy art/fav stuff I like so I'll probs stick around and try it out? I've tried using a eclipse a few times in the past but it gets so annoying I always ended up switching back, but once it's the only option i'll see how it goes.
Kinda hoping some of the artists I follow there move to opening comms on TH cuz I like buying here more anyways... like i only stuck around cuz thats where a lot of artists open comms, but if they move elsewhere... so will I

I've noticed in the past when sits do big layout changes there will be uproar/everyone claims they're leaving... then they come back like 2 weeks later LOL so i dont think as many people are really leaving as it seems
I think some groups may move but the thing is... dA was bought out by wix. So if you quit your dA group and move it to a wix website, they arent gonna care cuz they still got your business. And its probably what they want lol

Just a note, but whether or not you're planning on leaving, if you're unhappy with the changes to your Core membership, make sure to submit a ticket requesting a refund right away! They refunded mine in full within 24 hours with the same sort of response that I saw someone else receive, so I imagine that they've been prepared to do such things for a while now. I literally only wrote a couple of quick sentences for mine.

Anyway, I haven't really been feeling DA, in general, for years now, so at the very least I'm planning on going on a bit more of a hiatus. I cleaned up my watch list, followed as many people as I could elsewhere, put a link to my Linktr.ee account on my profile, and deleted most of my content off of there. The site already seemed to be dying, and the community that's left seems to be overrun with children that...don't handle things in the best possible manner, to say the least, lol. There aren't really any good alternatives to it at the moment, particularly for groups, but I plan on using this site and Twitter a lot more. Most people I've seen are moving to Twitter.
