In my opinion, happy wholesome songs that you learn the meaning to and it's actually something dirty. I can't unlearn the meaning and stop envisioning it when I listen to it so it just ruins the whole vibe for me.
I know we all have our favorites, but what songs can you not stand hearing? What are you sick of? Or what have you never liked?
don’t hate many songs at all, there aren’t even many songs I could say I “dislike”, but:
- ABCDEFU - holy shit shut up
- that one eshay song that everyone at school plays
- the pokemon go theme song - it’s not necessarily terrible but I hear it a lot because my brother plays pokemon go and the boring looping tune is not nice to listen to when you already want to block all noise from your ears.
- I tend to dislike country, but I’ve heard that the mainstream stuff isn’t all there is to the genre, so it may not be that bad.
- modern mainsteam or tiktok stuff - it usually feels like it was made by a corporation rather than a human. it’s soulless.
also looks like I have a lot of unpopular opinions on music I like based on this thread LOL. I love ed sheeran’s “a team” it is actually a favourite song of mine, and “lego house” is very nostalgic. I don’t understand the hate around him??? don’t like his new stuff that much but some of his old stuff was okay. people talk like he got into a really bad controversy, I wouldn’t know because I don’t actively listen to him or keep up with celebrity news, but nonetheless.

I live in the southern states, AND OH MY GOD I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW MUCH I FUCKING HATE "Apples Bees on a Date Night~" BECAUSE IT IS PLAYED SO GODDAMN MUCH HOLY SHIT I HATE COUNTRY MUSIC. I've had to listen country it ALL my life and I cannot tell you how much I HATE Morgan Wallen. Dudes at my school think he's god or some shit but HELL NO! Listen to some other shit besides that like omfg. There's others that I can't remember but they are so annoying. Country music to this point is just watered down rap music for people who think the best place to eat is Chick-Fil-A and that mullets are still cool.
Oh and about that rap music type shit nowadays, FUCKING SUCKS. The only stuff I listen to like that is the old school GTA theme music, which is absolute fire. All they talk about is getting fucked or drugs, or objectifying women. All of this rap music nowadays is some BS.

Country music used to be really good ngl. Well okay, in my opinion. I’m sure some people don’t like new or old country music but I personally feel like the older stuff used to be so much more inspired. I hate to sound like a boomer but I feel like there's a lot you can write when it comes to country music to do it justice but most new country songs I've heard are just about beer and trucking. They feel like they're more trying to appeal to a demographic than capture anything.
For me, I feel like country music should be used to capture the country. Whenever I listen to a good country song, I really get a feeling for it. There's nothing better than going on a road trip and putting on a good old fashioned country album. On the other hand, new country music just makes me think of pickup truck commercials. They feel bland and purposefully people-pleasing.
I guess if you want examples, “Magnetic South” by Micheal Nesmith is an album I discovered recently that I personally really like. Plus Paul and Linda McCartney’s “Ram”, The Hollies’ “Romany”, and George Harrison’s “All Things Must Pass” which are more like country-rock mixes. All from the early ‘70s. There’s a good amount of other country songs from that era that I love so it’s so sad that 99% of country music nowadays is just bland and repetitive, with every singer having that same scraggly rat voice. I hate it as much as the next person lol. Can’t stand Luke Combs.
ig i'll put my 2 cents about rap bc for me it's down to mastering. If the producers aren't doing anything to master it properly (like mixing the lyrics softer than the instrumental to the point you can't hear anything) what's the point? Though Ig i shouldn't be too harsh because half these mastering issues are coming from people just starting. Mastering is a skill in itself + poor-mastering can happen in any genre tbh, I just catch it more often in rap.
tbh ig it's sad/disappointing rap is still generalized as only "Sex, drugs and violence" music, when there's so many different sub-genres, tones, and themes that generalizing it in any way is a disservice. You don't have to like a genre to acknowledge there's more than just what the music industry shoves down our throats.
Most Hillsong/Bethel. Both because of the churches' philosophies and practices, and because the songs are slow, chanty, and same-y

I also live in the south, so I hear all of his terrible songs all the time. he’s also trashy as hell and makes me cringe whenever I hear his name. country in general isn’t my thing, the only singer I like who is county-esque is georgia-florida line, which has a huge amount of nostalgia for me. I cannot stand walker hayes, he’s just too redneck and that Applebee’s song makes me want to run 50 miles away from wherever it’s being played. (edit because I spelt Florida like flordia like the dumbass I am)
My Chemical Romance, PATD, bands from that era and subculture generally. Pop punk with major chords that sing about 'getting out of this town'. I think most Chainsmoker songs just melt my brain too.
