Rules for account-wide content warnings

Posted 5 years, 6 months ago by boylarva99

Account-wide content warnings are a great feature of this site, but lately I’ve seen many instances of them being misused. People commonly use them to tell others not to steal, copy or trace their work, which is redundant as the rules of the site already forbid art theft. I’ve also seen people use this feature to advertise their sales threads among other things. I think you’ll agree with me that neither of these examples are those of genuine content warnings and that there should be a rule against the misuse of this feature.

We have content warnings off because of flashing images and general misuse, its a huge and annoying issue

+1 It would be also great to disable gifs and highly discourage use of bright colors on these because frankly? "CW flashing lights uwu!!" on a brightly flashing background is not exactly providing a warning, now, is it? I get motion-sensitive headaches and ironically have to turn off warnings because of the bright default color and the often plentiful gifs in them.

+1 This feature is abused and it leads to people simply ignoring them. Which can potentially expose them to content they don't want to see

gonna +1 cuz i keep seeing like..anime gifs or people being weirdly aggressive instead of anything worth my time and it's so annoying, as someone who does get a lot of use out of actual content warnings its a little disappointing

+1, I also think it might be wise to add a rule that makes it so you cant use leet speak when writing your warnings (I get people have typing quirks, but if you're using them in a warning it makes it so people can't really properly read said warning)

ShadowOath

+1 too many people misuse and abuse it

I probably see people's rules/dni as profile warnings more often than actual content warnings. A lot of profile warnings have flashing gifs too. there should really be stricter rules about this, it's a big issue

Flashing images should be banned from being included in content warnings

+1. i really don’t wanna see 3 google docs pages worth of info about you on your profile warning, and then in a small font setting at the very bottom “page contains x y and z”
