I'm currently reviewing a change in our fandom character ruleset in light of feedback regarding fandom characters. To clarify, our current rules do not disallow upload of fan-characters as long as the canon permits derivative content, the characters are correctly credited, and all fanart is being used with permission. The reason being that up until now I haven't minded this platform being used for fandom RP.
I'm up for changing the site rules if fandom characters are a nuisance, but just wanted to verify since there seems to be some confusion: do people want both canon characters and derivative characters banned, or just canon characters? Where these are defined as the following:

a lot of people are already moving to different sites because they think the possible upcoming rules are going to affect them way too much
me and my friends have a lot of ocs based off of other characters but most of them dont look or act the same, and even if they do we dont profit off of it. and you dont rlly see those characters in the forums much either. i've also never seen "character as A Dog" except when i look at some of my friends profiles

Imo I think it's best if we dismissed this discussion altogether, because right now if the rules change, then a lot of people will leave this site too early. I think it's safe to say that we should keep the rules as is for now, until it's starting to become a problem. I have a bad feeling that this thread has caused more harm than good tbh.

i'd just stick to filling out the form. it's very quick and imho does a great job of making a clearer distinction between things while still allowing you to give ur feedback.
I would love it if the form could be posted on a site-wide announcement! There is (probably?) plenty of people who don't browse the forums. Why not give them a vote since rule changes would effect them also? ^^

inspired characters ARE FINE. MOST OCS ARE INSPIRED BY OTHER DESIGNS ANYWAYS????>????? WHAT,,,,,,, also you cant say a characters inspired if they haven't said anything abt it because you aren't them it'd just be a whole shitshow ( and i know most of the time inspired characters are called so bc the creator outright says it, but if this ban / rule is implemented it could get to this point and not many ppl like their oc being called similar to smth else ),, i honestly cant see the viewpoint ppl who want to ban inspired characters stand on..... like assksmd,cd/cell,,,,,,, if its inspired its not exactly the same or nearly the same more or less its usually like??? some design elements are taken but most are new is what i think inspired means to me
kinsonas are fine if the person isnt trying to make money from them and they're at least a little different in design or personality / etc. plus I believe that if you draw a character ( and it isn't an exact ver. of a canon character ).
plus maybe we could have a feature that hides / censors words / tags, so we could just put canon character names so if its a ""carbon copy"' you cant see it. also this would be good for peoples trigger-words and things that make them uncomfortable.
sans aus and stuff like that are just skeletons with clothes - its hard to make them extremely different unless they have like, hair
banning fan ocs is really dumb, including pokemon and steven universe ocs. unless its literally just the same design and personality idk
also if these rules did take affect it'd be very annoying because everyone would be accusing everyone, and all of our ocs are essentially inspired by something,,,,, it's just a really "yikes" topic to even add inspired, fan ocs, etc imo. im fine with canon characters like if you just save their canon ref and put it on th to rp bc rp sites exist, including discords and tumblr rp etc etc

OH ALSO I KNOW THIS possible RULE (probably) only applys to canon characters or inspired
NOT ALL KINSONAS ARE BASED OFF OF A CHARACTER,,,, or at least not all are majorly based on a real character / person
for example, my kinsona inabi is not based off of a canon character!! they appeared in a dream and i made them a kinsona!!
on an unrelated note this is making too many people unhappy and move and i know that isnt necessarily a bad thing to some people but i think it went too far; also the fact that fan ocs / inspired characters where on there was questionable for me
