The Prompt (If needed):

[OC] finds themselves in a quiet, rustic-looking town with busy individuals and floating things hovering about left and right. Magic fills the air and they feel drawn to one source. The source? A tall, brown-haired man with pointy ears and a wide assortment of golden earrings. He seems to not be busy now. What shall [OC] do?

If anyone wishes, I am willing to make links between Gold and your OC, provided they did interact with one another. You can be rude to Gold, scare him, etc. But Gold will usually be polite to a tee.

Gold's attention settles on Mila the second he could sense her magic (or rather, the second he became unable to sense it anymore). He knew that many strong emotions could be... felt... through flares in magic, so suddenly muffling its presence in the room told him something was wrong. Hell, even he did that after a stressful Rememberance to not direct attention to him. But he did not want Mila to feel uncomfortable after potentially remembering something bad. He waits until Mila seemed to have calmed and the presence of her magic returns before he dares say anything.

"I apologize if I said something that caused you a Rememberance. You... muted the flare of your magic, as I do whenever... there is something that causes me a Rememberance. I am truly sorry." Gold's voice lowers in volume, hand trailing up to the scar upon his face. "I am sorry."

"Ah, that is my blood. That room is why I do not come here to work anymore," Gold states plainly, subconsciously clasping his hands together. "I do not remember why I was bleeding, only that I remember a Happening but not Happening that was... undesirable."

Mila Bran Umbrase LemonTeaRain

A rememberance. She wasn't familiar with the term, and yet it seemed to encapsulate the experience to a T when she put any kind of thought into it. Though it was discouraging to know her attempts at concealing the situation had been a failure, it brought her some slight comfort to know he had only realised thanks to doing the same. And gods, he seemed remorseful for bringing her to face one, having apologized three times in the same few sentences. She didn't want to leave him tiptoeing around topics, unwilling to speak to her for fear of bringing up old memories... Perhaps it was best to explain the issue outright, so that they could avoid it in future.

"It's alright, you didn't intend to. It's because of the- it's the, um, the.." Usually blunt and to the point, Mila instead found herself dancing around the words, struggling to get out what was necessary to say. "It.. Sorry." She gestured with one hand towards the dull magic she could sense beside the entryway, which she assumed to be the icebox he had mentioned. "That." Was she gesturing accurately enough? She gritted her teeth before clarifying. "Any low temperature, enclosed space. Especially your word choice. I have not had.. pleasant experiences."

"I have not been near that room since the Rememberance that happened within. No one works within these walls, not anymore," Gold again states, bowing his head. "Needless to say, I was not in a good state of mind when I fled here. Please pay little mind to it, as when I feel that I am of sound enough mind that the room behind that door shall not trigger such a bad reaction I shall clean the place up."

LemonTeaRain

The box of cooling? So that was the cause of the Rememberance.... And judging by Mila's word choice and how he could feel her struggle to say what she needed to, it may have been rather recent. If 18 was just beyond the age of a human child.... then....

He could not bear the thought of another of his friends harmed--No, tortured--in their youth. He would allow it to happen no longer. When the time came to speak, his words were shaky, and his voice was not much more than a hushed murmur. "I understand what you speak of, dear friend...you make yourself clear. Again, had I known I would have never brought up the item..." Gold trails off, gaze drifting to his hands. The Elf preemptively mutes a little of his magic, making it less noticeable for his friend in the event he did have a Remembering.. "I do think that it it is only fair of me to share something I fear. It does no good for only one of us to open up the closet of skeletons within our minds... I shall disclose that my hands.... can easily cause a Rememberance. The scars upon them are from... A less than pleasant year. I am so sorry for what you have been made to endure."

Mila took note of the shake in his voice, keeping quiet as he explained himself. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other as his magic muted, feeling almost as though a white noise she had grown used to suddenly grew lesser. It wasn't until he went further and began to open up on one of his own fears that she understood his actions, filling her with gratitude that Gold would go as far as to reveal his own issues to even the playing field somewhat.

"I'll make certain not to draw your attention to them often, then." She promised, moving one hand to her belt as she considered whether or not she carried spare gloves with her. She didn't, but it wouldn't be too difficult to begin the habit once the winter months arrived - if she could prepare to provide help to her friend in a dark moment, she would. "Thank you for sharing that with me."

The witch wanted to offer up some kind of consolation to her friend, alongside an assurance she didn't blame him for the sudden recollection, but the words seemed to evade her. A simple it's okay felt as though it would belittle the experiences of them both, and that didn't seem worth the breath. Though the thought of that place came up frequently for the witch, she wasn't going to sugarcoat it and pretend that recalling it was anything other than unpleasant.

"Do you allow hugs?" Mila asked after a few quiet moments had passed. Where words failed, action could perhaps suffice. "As in, would one bring you comfort, not whether or not you tolerate them."

There is a short, purple wizard reading a book on the bench - something about Hermetic magi or something. His face is entirely concealed in shadow except for what seem to be his eyes, illuminated white with red irises. There is a coiling wand laid next to him with a crude, transparent crystal of some kind embedded into its tip.

It takes a while for the wizard to notice Gold approach, but he seems startled once he does.

"Huh?!"

Great. He didn't expect so socialize at all today, but that could be a good thing. However, on instinct - seeing Gold's pointed ears - he dug into his cloak pocket with a grumble and took out a smooth stone with an upright 5-pointed star drawn onto it.

"Shoo, go away," the wizard snapped with the nerdiest voice you can imagine, "I got finals soon, I don't have time to get sick."

"Alright then, Tigress. I shall remain here for but a few more moments," Gold replies shortly, yet still in his usual soft tone. "I believe there are some unused energy crystals that I may be able to use here."

LemonTeaRain

"There is no need to thank me, Mila," Gold says with a bow of his head, clasping his hands together in an attempt to keep them out of his line of sight. Just thinking of the scars brought upon him the terrible memories of that dungeon, those knives, the ichor leaking from the eyes, the crushing, corrupt magic, and him. The being of pure negativity that still haunts his sleep every night. The Elf had unmuted the presence of his magic too soon, too, as the uncomfortable, fear-infused aura of his magic came back in full swing. "It was...only right of me to share." He offers a short, quite-well-faked laugh, making an attempt to distract himself from his own feelings and instead focusing on the question regarding hugs. Oh, how he loved those! While Freddy and him were not intimate, as Gold was not comfortable with it, they did display affection through hugs. They felt safe. Non-constricting. "As for hugs, they do bring me comfort. I am perfectly comfortable with them. Would you like one?"

Arachnerd

As Gold approached the grumpy, unfamiliar wizard, he began to wave. However, he was promptly cut off by Melvin's rather rude response to him. He takes a step back, respecting the unknown wizard's space, but does not just....'shoo', as he called it. Instead, he offered a quarter-bow (a bow wherein ones head is lowered and their back only bends a few inches) and a quick greeting. His head rattled with the presence of a pair of large golden earrings covered mostly by his hair. "I do apologize for interrupting your studies, but I only wished to ask who you were. You are... unfamiliar to me. And I can assure you that I am not ill. Why might you say that?"

Mila Bran Umbrase LemonTeaRain

"I would, yes." Mila responded. She didn't wait for him to take the initiative, instead approaching him herself. She placed one hand on his arm briefly, getting an idea on how he was stood, before carefully bringing him in for a hug. Stood so close to him, practically in the center of his fearful aura, it took a lot of work to keep her own magic from responding in kind. Rather than the instinctual worry that feeling another magic-user's fear brought to her, Mila allowed herself to instead focus on the warmth of the embrace, assuming it would be better if they weren't feeding into one another's discomfort. It had been a while since she was near someone who was also so attentive to their magical senses, and it was a good reminder of how infectious one's emotions could be.

Seeing that the elf was neither warded by the symbol or even understood what he was talking about, the wizard felt like he was embarrassing himself. With another grumble, he stuffed the rock back in his pocket - something about "archaic" and "never works"

His attention was brought back to Gold's apology - one that felt wrong to accept. After all, he's the one reading in a public area, and it's not even for his studies!
"It's... fine, I guess. Whatever. I'm not studying right now," he admitted. He did not, however, answer the question about illness - it already felt wrong to have assumed in the first place.
"But do you just walk up to any stranger you ain't met before?" the wizard then asked.

Gold's descent into a Rememberance ground speedily to a halt the moment Mila committed to a hug, only pausing for a moment or two before reciprocating the gesture of friendly affection. One could call his hug a little.... desperate, given he was hugging Mila with a pair of trembling arms. The presence and touch of another truly were magical things, he knew. He had forgotten that hugs were able to pull him back to reality, but now that he was aware of that he'd make sure not to forget. As his hands gradually stopped shaking, his magic stopped emitting the signals of fear and distress and returned to a more neutral output. He couldn't find better words to say than, " Thank you. Thank you....greatly."

Arachnerd

Gold offered a shrug to Melvin, accompanied by a short chuckle. He had not a clue what Melvin spoke of, but it could perhaps be based upon the magic that Melvin possessed. What was it anyway? So unfamiliar was it, and there were so many different tools and gadgets used... Was he perhaps with a deficiency? It would be rude to inquire, however, so he refrained. He took Melvin's words with a hum of acknowledgment, before processing his question. Ah, but what to say? Did he walk over to-- Oh yes, he did. On several occasions.

"I usually do, yes. I have many jobs, and one of them is to make sure there are no people making an attempt to...break through Kingdom's walls in ill intent."

(( OOC: uwaghhhh sorry I'm so tired, on Sunday if anything ill redo yalls posts and be in on it.))

Mila Bran Umbrase LemonTeaRain

ShiftingFoxx [hope you get some good rest!]

Mila relaxed as she felt his trembling ease up, alongside the distress his magic was expressing. Whatever thought had brought him such turmoil seemed to be now moving on with the breeze, and she was glad to feel it. "Anytime, Gold," The witch responded. "All you ever have to do is ask."

She had no plans to break away until she knew for certain he was alright, and so there she stayed, waiting for him to move back.

Melvin Mulberry Arachnerd

ShiftingFoxx [I wish the same! and lowkey mood, but you don't have to redo the posts ^^]

"Buddy, if I wanted to do something like that you wouldn't even be talking to me right now," the wizard chuckled, but soon enough his attention was caught by the elf's colorful job history. "What's up with that, anyway? You like a freelance guard or somethin'?" though, soon enough, the feeling that he was prying settled in enough for him to disclaim, embarrassed, "N-not that it's any of my business. I don't care if you tell me or not. You- uh... you don't have to."

He knows he'd hate to have the same questions asked of him. It'd only be hypocrisy to not give that same respect, he thought.

As he and Mila continued to embrace, Gold gradually felt comfortable enough to inch his way out of the hug and back upright. His friend's words warmed his soul and brightened his mood, allowing his magic to return to its usual intensity. He had to tone it back again, worried that it may mingle accidentally with Mila's magic, but it was still obvious he was feeling alright now. For the most part. In truth, he just needed to quit focusing on his hands and instead focus on his friend or anything else, but he liked to think that everything was okay now.

"Again, I thank you.." Gold says, trying to maintain his composed voice. With the almost-Rememberance, he could feel his manners slipping. "It has been a while since I have... had help avoiding a Rememberance. If you ever should need help with anything, I shall be more than happy to pledge my loyalty to you, dear friend."

Arachnerd

"I have no doubt in your abilities, Wizard, however it does not do harm to make sure through speech," Gold affirms, allowing a short chuckle to escape him. He was rather confused by how the wizard asked of his jobs and immediately dismissed his own question, his gentle smile faltering. There was no need to apologize for such a simple question! He would be glad to answer—Oh no. He had forgotten the most important part of a conversation, the introduction. Again.

"I would be pleased to describe my jobs to you. However, I would like to introduce myself while I reply," the Elf bows his head in respect before he speaks once more. "I am Gold, Head Healer, Rationmaster, and Tradesmaster of Kingdom. I am also an advisor to the King when he calls for a moonly meeting, though that job is merely secondary to my other responsibilities. If it does not bother you to reply, what is your name? I understand if it is not in your usual day to speak with others."
