💡 Why does your OC exist (in meta)?

Hi! A lot of us have OCs with fleshed-out backstories and complex personalities... but what was the first thing, the first trait you've come up to for them? What made you create this character? The answer can be as serious ("I wanted to create a character to share with my experiences with <event>") or silly ("I really like pasta so I've made a character who likes pasta") as you want!

Just have fun and please keep things civil ♥

 Nyris Poluslus

I created Nyris because at the moment I wanted an OC I could exclusively use for spicy art. At the moment I was playing Lost Ark so the character I played there inspired her appearance, and also a character from a fic I was reading inspired her personality.

She ended up the OC I like the most and also the one with the most fleshed our backstory and personality, and funnily enough, the one that I lewd the least lol

The Executioner | Carnifex OverlyOptimistic

I found an artist who reimagined the Greek gods as these terrifying, toothy monsters (dimetrodone on tumblr, go look at their stuff it’s great) and I realised I really liked the idea of Gods being alien-looking creatures. I had the concept of an executioner god already in mind and I decided to draw a design of him as an alien creature rather than the standard human looking god as I’d always imagined. I called him Carnifex. A couple years later and I have a universe where the ‘gods‘ are just aliens and Carnifex is the protagonist of it all.

Thanks to dimetrodone for inspiring me!

5--- Saros Merlinslair

He was an adopt for my closed species originally, but as I designed him I fell in love with him xD. My species itself exists because I created a world building project and they are the dominant species (much like how humans are in this world)

Ivan OmgACorgi

This character I made it to be a plot device for a story. I had a dream about a girl piloting insect-looking mechs, so I decided to develop that world more and it needed characters, I figured I could add other mech pilots and that one could be playing double agent with the enemy. But he needed a reason to do so, and the reason I came up with was that if he stayed with the humans he would die of some illness, but the enemy side could cure him and that's how he became blue.

His design is inspired by insects, fungi, and Kazuma Kaneko's pisaca.

I ended up liking him more than the main character because of the human-but-not design.

Pastafang

For school art class we had to design a bunch of different faces, and then pick one to sculpt from clay. Jokingly I decided to draw the most over-the-top edgy design I could come up with (and then dubbed it "Joshua", because I thought it would be funny to give an edgy demon an anticlimacticly generic name). But it turned out to be the most interesting design on my sheet of brainstorm sketches, so Josh was the one I picked to make.
So as we worked on that art project over the course of several weeks, bringing Josh to "life" - as well as talking about him with my friend who sat next to me, who was making her own character (We would come up with senarios about them together. And shipped them.) - made me grow attached enough to develop Josh into an actual character and not a joke.

On the same page that the original Josh was drawn on, my friend drew a simple little doodle (little more than a stickman) of a demon, and jokingly proclaimed "this is Joshua's uncle". So when I was developing Josh and thinking about what his backstory should be, I decided that he would indeed have a demon uncle who played an important role in the story. And that's how Carver came into existence.
(Also fun fact it took me so long to actually come up with a name for Carver so for like several months he was known only as "Joshua's uncle" lol)

Of course this also required filling in the missing link, consequently leading to the creation of Josh's father and Carver's brother, Eden... and then the entire DemonHeart story and cast.

And now, all these years later, these three are some of my most developed and beloved characters. And to think, all this is the legacy of a silly design doodle I expected to be nothing more than a throwaway joke :")

Soda parfaitheart

I wanted a cute gachapon themed fursona, so I made her!

C.I.T.A. Mutonian

Fuck I barely remember. I think I just wanted a ghoul or something, looked at the Hamburglar. and made him.

Yuina Lecuona ScheloftheSea

this is a funny one. I wanted to create a character with ADHD because I'd heard of it and back then i thought i needed more diverse characters, so i researched it and came up with her, but in the process I realized she was extremely similar to me, and without me saying anything about that incident I had a counselor ask me weeks later if I considered the thought of having ADHD. so yeah making an oc with adhd somehow was the kickstart to realizing i had adhd

now shes one of my favorite characters despite only being something of a side character

Korihas InvalidOS

usually it's just "i want to make a character that is [thing] / has [cool feature]"

korihas is probably the best example, the first version of hir was basically a completely different character and me wanting a kitsune oc. more recently however i considered reducing the number of tails because their purpose for me is completely different now, more reflecting my experiences being nonbinary along with other things.

Cyberlux Compucat Starstorm_X1

My creation process for Cyberlux was that I wanted a character that best represented myself. So, first thing I did was make him very tech-savvy! I also had him run a museum for old tech since old tech is a huge passion of mine. I made him blue since it's my favorite color.

Nile WizardOfNeet

He was my imaginary friend and he came back in a dream and decided we were balling.

Cyle came from that too, since he was originally an evil split-off of Nile that became his own character. They're cousins now.
