💡 Why does your OC exist (in meta)?

Posted 5 years, 5 months ago (Edited 5 years, 4 months ago) by fuelli

Hi! A lot of us have OCs with fleshed-out backstories and complex personalities... but what was the first thing, the first trait you've come up to for them? What made you create this character? The answer can be as serious ("I wanted to create a character to share with my experiences with <event>") or silly ("I really like pasta so I've made a character who likes pasta") as you want!

Just have fun and please keep things civil ♥

ah yes. memories

my oldest characters that i still use (including poor chris) were made as mlp oc's. when mlp:fim was still popular i went through an 4 year long mlp phase and i wanted some pony oc's,,,,, i made my own mane 6 and everything :"0 eventually after i made human versions of them they became their own characters and i gave them their own story once i grew out of this  f o u r  y e a r  l o n g  phase. chris and peter in particular were also inspired by fred and george from harry potter (i made one troublemaker instead of two b/c i was afraid of copying them) and jacksgap (some british youtubers i used to watch at the time, this was before they changed their videos).

they've come such a long way,,,

KittyKnight

A lot of my characters often come from a "Hey what if ___", and other times it's just "I wanna make a ___"

For instance, Spade was particularly a character idea inside my head - a serious fellow who didn't really talk much. It was only until the octo expansion started to be revealed more that I got super hyped for it and I went "HEY! LET'S MAKE AN OCTOLING!", and when I made him my version of agent 8, 3 and 4 (Coral and Clyde ) kinda followed suite.

Hans is another example of this. I had the concept of someone who hypnotised through radio, so when Town of Salem introduced the hypnotist role within the coven expansion, I was like "y e s t i m e t o u s e t h e c o n c e p t", and I ended up making him. Of course, he has developed since that concept.

But 95% of the time, I just make a design and give 'em a personality. That's it.

Sal is my old..........neopets oc. Im crying. The truth hurts.

Rhine Waltz

I initially made this girl, who I consider my oldest active sona/mascot, because I decided that the story she was originally part of... needed to have a girl in it. The two primary main characters were a pair of teenage boys, and because I wanted more of a diversity in the cast, I decided to make her as sort of a tertiary main.

Somewhere along the line she became my favourite in the whole cast, and even after I dropped the story after a couple years, I still kept her around for a while out of affection. She's still one of my most darling daughters now, 14 years strong!

Jaena

Maeleth: I wanted to play a succubus and the GM said no

Elaryn: I wanted to cast the BIGGEST FIREBALL POSSIBLE

 â˜… Elliott ★ GeckoSauce

Everyone always mistakes me for male, even when I was a child and to be honest I'd look better as a male...

Anyways, so Elliott was made as a male sona •.•

He's me, but male, and owns the things I want to own but don't...like a pug.

 Jonas VapeNash420

My friend and I used to rp on Roblox about 4 years ago. We needed someone to rule the Tumblr galaxy and reign over the Tumblrites / Tumblrinas, so I threw together an avatar with whatever I had at the time that somewhat fit the theme.

Named him Jonas because we had both agreed it was the "most hipster name". While me and said friend don't talk anymore, Jonas is still... really important to me. I still write with him all the time, about his ventures from before, during, and after his rule. He began as what was intended to be a side character but is now arguably one of my most important characters

fizzelston WHAT NEOPET WAS HE?? I'm gonna guess Blumaroo, , ,

Mɪsᴀᴋɪ LittleBiit

Misaki was a disaster when she was first created. I decided to put everything I liked into this character. Her first name was either Yonder/Yandere or Wolfie. She was a creepypasta oc that was part dragon, part werewolf, was long lost sister to Ticci Toby and was raised by Jeff the killer as well as being shipped with almost every creepypasta. Thankfully after a while I changed her story to something I think is a better fit story! Way better then that monstrosity!

Santiago aska-ray

i think Santiago was the first instance of "side character grew way way bigger than the character he was originally related to, whoops" phenomenon that i frequently accidentally completely by accident fall into time and time again

let's see if i remember any of his original story... please excuse me, i was like, 12 or 13 when he came into existence so you can probably guess i wanted something "lol super edgy!!!" ahaha kill me he started off as just the boyfriend of another character of mine who. has no more bearings in any stories (but here is a picture i drew of him, when i was 14, on my old DA account, damn son) but anyway Santiago was killed off because gotta have that badly written man pain amirite!? but it's okay because i was really into killing and resurrecting my characters back then so he came back fine, as a vampire of course. i think the rest was just a convenient accident and just fell into place over time

i have kept the general idea of his backstory but in more....broad swaths than specifics because 1. the specifics are bad and terrible and 2. at the point in my meta-narrative he's supposed to be quite old and no one really remembers where he comes from anyways sooo it works out

Sammy ferdie

Sammy here has quite the odd origin. He was originally my old Roblox avatar a year or two back and looked 100% different. I still have the very first drawing of him that was made by my friend and oh man is it fun to look back. He used to be some sort of roblox-robot person with like blue hair and a rainbow vest and had zero personality other than quirky. It wasn't until this year I really went and fixed the poor boy up and gave him a backstory which ended up influencing the lore and history of the story/universe he exists in a lot.

John also has an interesting origin story. He was actually originally a friend's character that they were using in some sort of story thing. I drew his very first design for my friend and got kind of attached. Once the lil miniseries was over, my friend gave John to me and he's been my edgelord son ever since. His design, personality, and story haven't changed quite as much as Sammy's and in fact still have some of the original elements of the very first version of him, mainly in design. He is the reason I even have half of my characters and a whole universe I have enjoyed building up and creating lore and all that fun stuff so I honestly have to thank his original owner for that :>

Lorna Smit FellowPigeon

The very first rendition I can remember of Lorna was for an old creative writing project from English class. We were doing Gothic Horror and had to write an original short story based on the genre. In the story, Lorna was a twelve-year-old girl who carried a mysterious curse passed onto her by her estranged father that resulted in her mother going crazy and barricading them into their home. Needless to say, she has changed a lot since then.

Uja HEAVENDELUXE

Usually i makea character pretty arbitrarily--"what if character w cool [physical trait]" and go from the - but with this guy, he was actually for a deviantart rideable wolf arpg lol......... as a rideable wolf..... i liked his character and so after leaving the game i held onto it; later, when another oc needed a loyal companion, i had somebody ready for recycling.... and so uja became humanoid lol.

black hair going white was a thing already in that world, so it was very convenient for loosely emulating his spots with patchy hair and face marks ( ^^)ã‚ž
