✒️ Post your written line you really like

Posted 6 years, 9 months ago (Edited 6 years, 9 months ago) by Caine

I have no idea how fast this thread will die considering majority of the people here are artists rather than writers, but it probably won't hurt trying!

The idea of this game are very simple: Post a line (or a few) from your writing project, whether it's a novel, short story or OC bio / background detailing!
It can be something you're really proud of or something you simply like, or just want to share with other people! Feel free to also tell others a bit about the context if you feel like it

Rules & guidelines:

  • Keep them PG13 max! Let's keep this game something everyone can participate to and read without fear!
  • Sensitive content should be either blacked out like this THIS or under spoiler. Again, make sure it's PG13 max!
  • No fanfiction lines unless they contain an original character of yours in the line(s) you post!
  • Don't double post. Double posting is allowed! Otherwise this thread will die lmao
  • You're allowed to post longer chunks of text too, but keep it moderate and put it under spoiler tag so people don't need to scroll through all of it to reach the next post!
  • Feel free to post as IC if your story line is related to a character you have!
Also, here is a general thread for writers if you want to hang out with others or talk about your projects! And if you have anything to ask, feel free to ping or dm me!

I love taking some pieces of my writing without context:

"As Laci started to fly away, she could hear her creators groans of sadness. Was he really trying to guilt trip her? Sad part is, it worked."

SOCELLE MARSFAUN

I liked the night, with its pretty stars and its crescent moon, but I was also deathly scared of it. I wasn’t quite sure why, maybe it was a poem from a simpler time or a warning from ruling angelics, but often as I started to ponder, you’d show up. An escort, or a friend. Or a beautiful deity encapsulated in friendly kindness and brave words. You’d blindly fling around concepts like love and romance, as if they were just catchphrases without serious and detrimental meaning. Maybe that trickery was why the night was appealing to someone so ingrained in this daytime angel culture.

one whole paragraph but legit one of the only good things I’ve ever wrote

so i didn't rlly have a line or excerpt but i typed this wip out at 3 am at the top of my head. i didn't know where it was going, but here it is. :") This is a fanfiction-self insert of my oc Nakry  in the sweet home netflix adaptation universe! (its been abt a year or 2 since I read the manhwa so im sorry for all the manhwa-only fans ! :( c )

Most of this stuff is based off of my neighborhood, lmao ngl, and p much a persona tbh

TW/WARNING! CUSS WORDS, MENTIONS OF WOUNDS/AFTERMATH OF A FIGHT-NONCON

"You're just like me. Self-centered in your own special way. Want some help?" Nakry popped a Tamarindo ball into her mouth and held her fists out- full of first aid supplies and a variety of Mexican and Asian candy from her local corner stores. Sang-Wook didn't even try to look at her. Her eyebrow furrowed for moment before she huffed and dropped it all in front of the beaten man. "Aiya, stop acting tough in front of everyone all the time. We're all on the verge of giving up. It's okay to let out your emotions, y'know."

Sang-Wook slowly lifted his chin to make eye contact with the teen. His eyes widened a little when he saw the state of her. "Nakry...?" It'd been a long, long time since he'd taken a good look at how she was doing. The last time he'd seen her, she was full of life and ambition- reckless- wanting to take on the world. Her eyes would shine whenever she spoke, but now?

Her eyes were dull and voids of hatred. Anger. Disgust towards the world. She had eyes of someone who was vengeful and sorrowful, a person who could care less about death. Scars scattered across her warm golden-sepia skin, now dirty and bloodied. Her presence had a defensive aura, making her seem like she was ready to fight someone- maybe even worse- if provoked. Fuck, did Jin-Seop really ruin her that much?

"What happened to you?..." Sang-Wook's was taken aback, and his voice came out in a raspy hush. Nakry scoffed, rolled her eyes, then locked them with the older man's once more. "I finally became independent and shit. The hero of my own story, like how everyone used to tell me. Aren't you proud of me?"

tw! v*miting (?) , cussing

Aries vomited with her back arched over the cold California highway.

"Fuck, I shouldn't have ever came here."

A man stepped at the side of her, with a cocky sharp-toothed grin. His eyes glowed under the moonlight.

"Damn right, you shouldn't have."

i have poetry excerpts.

"you hide your fangs behind your lips and smile for the camera / you tuck your tail between your legs and pin your ears behind you / you file your claws until they’re sore and red and useless / you cry wolf, pretending to be the shepherd"

"the world is big and dark and scary / and it’s okay to be afraid of it / but you have to keep going"

"what would you have done / had i lived on that day? / would you love me, / even if i was no longer me?"

"what a vile word monster is, / but oh how i love being vile"

"i'm a one-trick pony / and my trick fucking sucks"

"is it love to keep a dying friend alive? / or is it love to let it die in peace? / is it love to cling to it? / or is it love to say goodbye?"

"you can find a better brother / i doubt you loved me like one anyway."

"in your eyes, in your heart, / god and the devil are the same"

"and one day, you’ll abandon me / and you’ll leave me to rot / you’ll leave me to die / in the same place we met"

"the blood is where you came from, / a child coated red // but the wine is where you followed, / and told never to stray"

"the monster would grow up human; / believing himself human, / he tried to love like one"

I journal the random obscure thoughts in my head and awhile ago I got obsessed with the concept of the void. I wanted to start developing a character and story but only got a little prompt of writing out of it:

"It was like being unborn for eternity. My home was an abyss that shielded all corners of the mind with darkness. Anything of permanence was instantly swallowed up here, yet I existed freely. I floated endlessly through the void with nothing to stop me. This has been the truth of my entire life. I had no clue how long ‘my entire life’ actually was because even time got swept away in this place. The only thing I ever see in the uninterrupted darkness are my two hands in front of me. Sometimes I catch glimpses of the rest of my body, if I’m feeling up for it. No sound existed here, even my own voice was stolen from me every time I opened my mouth. Instead, I listened to my thoughts as they thundered around the inside of my skull. My thoughts were constantly occupied by things I had never seen, yet knew that they existed. Sofas. Cabins. Phones. People. Dogs. It was as if I had seen them once in a past life and couldn’t bear to part with the fluffy memories."

It do be kinda thiccums tho lol

Ooh I've got a couple really good quotes.

"Are you sure you're not a demon? You're pretty good at the whole mean-spirited thing." - Azazel to Michael

“You once told me I could make for a pretty good demon. Perhaps at the same time, you still have it in you to be a half-decent angel.” - Michael to Azazel after their final battle.

"Let’s just say the hand that feeds me has been looking for a real good biting recently." - Er on betraying his master

And a bunch of lines from a little side story in 1st person persp. starring Joshua (who is not on TH yet):

He said it would help me cope... Now here I was. Coping.

...flapping my wings like a crazed chicken.

...and dove in what I envisioned was a graceful manner into the ocean. (In reality it looked remarkably like a drunken penguin falling off a ledge)

It was quite a bit farther than I thought it was, but mama didn’t raise no quitter.

Spectra Angekettet HALLOWGEN

From my story draft, a nice character interaction:

As she heard the door click open Spectra’s ears flicked. “06, are you incapable of leaving me alone for more than two seconds?” The Drude’s silhouette was visible through the shower curtain, lithe and lightweight.
“Relax. Would you like me to rinse out your clothes?”
“No. Please just get OUT.” Spectra balled up her fists.
“Very well.”
She watched the silhouette check on her coat and jumpsuit, squeezing out more excess water before throwing them over her shoulder. It’s surreal watching something like her do something so mundane.
“Feel free to call if you need me.” The silhouette disappeared from view, the door creaking.
“Wait. If you didn’t mind… maybe it would save time if you… if you...” Spectra stared at her feet and considered how much time she could save if she drowned herself right now. “...washed my clothes?”
“Of course, Spectra. Try not to choke yourself.”

oh man i love how this paragraph turned out! (chapter 3 of class of the ungifted)

"The water glistened in all shades of blue, from brilliantly blinding turquoise to deeply majestic aquamarine. It was like a multifaceted gem, glinting and sparkling in the moving sunlight. Trees and clouds rippled above Beacon's head, but the dragon was more concerned with the underwater world. It was where he belonged, and where he would have been able to stay if his SeaWing mother had not died. If she was still alive and Beacon had gone with her, he would have been able to see Shipwreck every day and not worry about having to sneak out when the rest of the kingdom was asleep. He hated staying up at night with the rest of the tribe, missing out on beautiful sunrises and clouds and birds and the color blue. Beacon belonged in the Kingdom of the Sea, and one day he would live there forever and ever with Shipwreck and all his beautifully colored tribemates."

i'm back with more poetry stuff!

"and somewhere in me there's a child / with bright eyes and long hair // and she wants us all to get along / since she was me and i was her // but a child's views are always slanted / and i'd hate to let her see the real me"

"and no matter how you reply, i'm gonna cry / and we'll be separated and taken to our domains / and i'll cry, since I wasn't good enough for god to take us together"

"perhaps their judgement had failed them, / or maybe they had not judged at all; / but the prisoner was now free, / allowed to escape into reality once more. // in a sick turn of events, / the prison guard had become the prisoner."

"but i am now a man hardened by my own suffering, / my heart tainted and stained / the color of the ink i once created with. / i have given into the demands of a world that does not want me, / a world that i do not want."

"oh, how i miss you / but i will never see you again; / we have been torn apart, once and for all / i miss you, my friend / yet i hope you do not miss me too."

"maybe one day / i'll stop falling in love with love itself / and fall in love with someone."

"i wish to drown in a pitch dark sea, / and i hope you will follow my lead."

"Wilbur has never been one to crack beneath the pressure. Never been one to falter underneath the watch of the public eye.

A mild-mannered, charismatic young man, some would call him -- a perfect example of what a gentleman is meant to be. Others... well, they're not so sure, and Wilbur supposes that he can't really blame them. There's two sides to every coin, after all. Two perspectives to every story.

Melpomene and Thalia. The Wilbur that everyone perceives and the Wilbur that only those closest to him get to know.

Two sides to every story, and two halves to every man."

DOTT0RE

Ooh these are all really cool!!

I have a line from my character; she holds contempt for many people heh

"Yes, he was an arrogant, paranoid creature with a clear superiority complex but at least in trying to show others how smart he was he would let others know what the deal was."

I've got many! Most of mine are from fanfictions but that's just a genre :D.

From an in-progress Bionicle and Keeper of the Lost Cities fusion fanfiction:

“I guess this is why banishment has such an effect,” he said. “Send us away, but together, and we’ll take each other apart because there’s no one else to blame.”

From a finished Bad Batch fanfiction:
The absence of Crosshair and the reminder of his change hurt as much as if he’d nicked himself while cleaning one of his knives.

(contains spoilers for Bad Batch episode 1)

From a Tron fanfiction:
This had its own scent to it - a mix of savory things, some slightly sulfury, others richer and less distinct. (describing a breakfast burrito)

AAAh I came back to this and realized you said no fanfiction lines, sorry...
