Say something nice about above user's writing! ✏️

Posted 7 months, 19 days ago (Edited 6 months, 9 days ago) by dazey-the-goat

honestly, my favorite things to talk on toyhouse would be character writing, and sometimes i wish those threads were more active aha- this thread here is based on the ☀️ Say something nice about above user's art thread, but instead we’ll be talking about writing!

what do like about the user’s writing? is it the way they write personalities? they’re unique ideas? or the way they handle a certain topic? maybe their style of with words? or mayhaps something else? well here’s where you talk about it! it could be anything related to that, character bios, literature, projects, worlds, or even the way they write their forum game claims [y’know, the character interaction ones]! it could be about a specific oc/work, or their writing in general!

rules are here!

  1. as for effort requirment, please do atleast 3 sentences minimum! More is always welcome, but please don’t do less, or something so simple like "your writing is cool" [if you can't come up with anything, maybe don't claim them untill next time]. try to be more specific, and maybe your best to match the user’s above response if you can! i’m sure they’ll highly appreaciate it <3
  2. be nice! no passive-agressive comments, this is a compliment thread after all :]
  3. no skipping. even if the user above has blocked you, wait untill another user comes in!
  4. claiming is okay! just make sure you finish it before 12 hours pass hehe
  5. try to not claim the same user if you've claim them here before. it's always nice if you have many things to say for them, but we want to give users a chance to hear opinions from others!
  6. feel free to add in links for the next poster to check! it could be a tag for finished profiles, your literatures, etc-
  7. there's no cooldown at the moment! due to the nature of this thread [this may change in future notice but for now don't worry about it] :]

i will be checking on this thread! feel free to contact me if there’s any rule breaking :]

also other compliment writing above threads y’all shall check out >:]

So I read the one-shot you did and my thoughts on it? Well, the first thing is for sure, and that is that you really do know how to how to make a one paged one-shot interesting as the cast of characters shown in your profile! And that's a good thing! The way you write literatures tells me that you also know how to make it understandable and flow great with the storytelling! That's some great stuff there!

I have read the bios of the characters many times before, so many times I lost count. And I gotta say the way you explain characters, lore, world, stories, etc. Is really nice and interestingly magnificent! As much as I talk about the color palettes of the characters and bios to death, I thought it'd be fair for me to talk about what I think of the lore, so that's what I'm doing! I think if I had to pick a character with the most interesting and eye catching lore, etc. It'd be pal.

NP: if you want to read a story to put your thoughts on Here's my comic link, feel free to check any bio of my characters if you want to as well

So, I read the first two installations in your webtoon and I loved it! I thought it was lighthearted and funny, and that your absolutely stunning art suits it perfectly! I know this isn't necessarily part of the writing, but the character designs were all so unique, and I loved reading if just for the artwork, but to add the writing on that too?! It seems like a great story with a fun world that reminds me a bit of the hazbin-hotel/helluva boss world and style of humor, so keep it up!

As for me, most of my literatures are one shots from past Nanowrimos, so they're not the best. My favorite is probably this one or this one, both about Rhun. My character profiles are about half finished in this folder, and Jaenelle's is probably the longest if you want that. (after looking at my literatures, I forgot I posted this, which was the original first chapter to my novel and probably has the highest quality of writing, but the least overall plot.) But feel free to pick any literature or profile you think might be cool!

I liked Knight in Rusted Armour! It does a great job immersing you in this really solid simple moment with Ara and her feelings, both about the palace and the people around her, while holding a lot more depth under the surface in lines like 'putting it nicely' and the mystery about the king who's shown in such a mixed way I'd probably run off too in her place lol; A great little glimpse of a much bigger world. Also Rhett being disapproved of by his girls parents is really funny to me. without any context its her parents hating THE most accountant office job looking man, what a bad boy.
Also the last line in the block of quotes in Cryosleep Dream not being a memory made me smile, what a cute little setup detail for a novel :) The rest of the ending is also a super cool atmosphere, my brain's so primed for scifi rn.

Hi I have a library (if you go there please feel free to scroll down, I like the old stuff as much or more then the new stuff I prommy) but feel free to do whatever else you've Seen Of Me if you have seen of me \o/ concrit also welcome lol

First of all, I really, really enjoy your titles! They give your works such an elusive feel to them. And the pictures you use to capture the aesthetic of what you are discussing is a nice touch!

In regards to your actual writing, I want to say you are really good with 3rd perspective! Usually I find 3rd perspective literature to be a hit or miss, but yours really stand out from the crowd. My particular favorite work of yours is your most recent one. The title drew me in the most, and so did the small little pre-bio. Your usage of metaphors and description is very impressive, for example "Nothing but the thin layer of leaves separated her from the faraway sun" is so beautifully written and detailed!

Overall I think your works have such a beautiful atmosphere to them and I encourage you to continue writing as I can see your passion coming through with these pieces and I think you have the potential to go far! Good luck on your journey and keep up the amazing work <3

v Ack thank you a ton!

TheEliBlog no one has claim yet HOW- i think i’ve said that your writing is cool, but it is now time for me to ✨elaborate✨

this time i’ve decided to read in some literatures! i read in “Behind the Scenes of “The Labratory”, and there’s a few things i liked about it! i especially loved the way you described the labratory in these chapters. it’s detailed, but easy to understand! you manage to explain the enviroment so well i think anyone who’s reading this literature can put themselves in bella’s shoes really easily. like you would be able to imagine yourself how disgusting and harsh conditions these animals have to go through. [the poor fellas honestly… whatever happened to the whole lab i hope every animal alive got the peace they deserve :(]

another thing i want to talk about is i think you’re really good at showing a character’s personality through their words! like, the dialouge between bella, otis, and marmalade, you can already tell alot about their character from what they say alone. the same thing goes from scrolling through bella’s links, i can already have some ideas on her personality from reading her quotes/interactions with the other dogs alone! plus, your 1st narrations are distinctive depending on which dog is speaking, which i also love! i only need to read in a little of “How I Became A Monster” to tell that we’re already talking about two different characters haha. overall it was fun to dig in [pun not intended]! hope to see more of your dogs :D

next person: i’m working on a project, and i’ve finished some bios for it here! i’d love to know what you guys think :]

edit: v ahaha i saw you both [iconic toyhouse writers imo] and i got a mini heart attack ngl/pos
edit ii: okay now for my actual response silket because AWWWWW TYSM??? THESE WORDS MEAN ALOT TO ME AAAAA- i typically prioritize personality when it comes to writing characters so i'm so happy you think so! :D

silket

dazey-the-goat oohh a project! i'm always interested when people say they've got something going on and i'm immediately curious what you're doing with these characters.

the thing i notice immediately is that you're really good at making characters who feel like people. they have all sorts of little intricacies and quirks to them that make them seem fleshed out and unique, very distinct from one another and clearly filling different niches in their story. for this reason the 'notes' sections on their pages are a treat to read; i'm always a sucker for oc trivia and these are no exception! i particularly like lucas, as i relate to his personality in a lot of ways. you're good at writing characters in a way that feels relatable, it's as if i've met some of these people before or could find parallels between them to people i know in real life. in terms of the writing style itself, i think your writing is very to-the-point and effective, which i always admire as someone who often finds myself trimming down what i've written to try and strive for concision. it's really quite difficult and it's a strength of your writing that you are able to capture complex concepts like personality in that way!

next person: if you're 18+ and okay with the cws, you can read this story! otherwise you can read one of these profiles: dove, lysanthir, yska

How has no one claimed u yet, CLAIM

Argal, one of the best and most well known writers in the forums, happy to read some of ur stuff!! Ur char bios are HELLA interesting and super fun to read. I haven't read ur literature before besides a few forum replies so I'm happy to check out the one u linked!

Ok, the begining of a dialouge as a start, LOVELY choice of words and the situation you kinda put out sounds interesting. I also liked that you differintiated the speaking parts by making the letters bold, really makes it easier to read! Again, maybe this is just the IELTS english learner in me, BUT THE RANGE OF VOCAB?? THE WAY YOU USED THEM?? FIXED?? DRAWN?? SLUMS?? It makes me wanna smile with all these fun words- The wording and the grammar diversity- Its too good, like whence? I barely ever see that word. It's more formal and it gives the character more depth on their personality on how they know it ánd why they used it, like maybe the character is of higher class or a superior or Is this story in a more formal setting or time period? Maybe I'm overthinking it, but it really gives me a ton of thoughts about these characters. And I LOVE it.

Another thing I love seeing people do is describing actions, and adding a lot of fancy and awesome adjectives, and you DEFINITELY did well in that. I love every action you describe and how much DEPTH you put into describing it. Also how the dialouge is written, like the speech of the characters, SO LOVELY. You really understand and KNOW how they talk and their manner of speech. I love how they talk and it really shows their personality, and all the fun fancy words, AGAIN, I CAN'T SHUT UP ABOUT UR AWESOME VOCAB. AND THE ENDING WAS BLOODY ADORABLE AND SWEET. I honestly love it, I can picture this whole story in my head and that really just shows how good you are at writing-

Overall, you are a bloody amazing writer and storyteller, keep it up, mate!!!

Np, you know the drill. PROVING MY SANITY , EVERY BIO IS FINISHED, THERE IS A SECRET TAB IN A CHAR TO FIND AS A SIDE QUEST, OPTIONAL THING IS MY CABINET MAN LIT

V Omg dazey u are so sweet like TYSM- I'm so glad you like my lil guys and stories!! ALSO IM HAPPY U LIKE MY HUMOUR :DD

dazey-the-goat

AnnaDreamurr aha i hope you won't mind me claiming, but it so odd to me how no one has??? so >:]

honestly i really LOVE how you write characters! like, there's just such a dynamic cast going on in pms???? each character here have very intriguing personalities in my opinion! especially the protangonist ivan here. when it comes to protangonists, many times they end up pretty dull, but ivan's clearly the exception :O it would honestly be so much fun to watch this fellow and his journey in solving the mysteries. your other characters are just as great too! i find reading these bios give different perspectives of a story, and i think that's an underated aspect when it comes to character writing. the antagonists you've written are very cool too, i just love the "workplace" and how they interact with each other, the way they fill in the roles. the chemistry going on with these characters [the mad mycologists is my personal fav] are just so much fun!!!!

also your sense of humor. YEAH I KNOW IT'S a little random but i genuinely do admire it! like it's so funny actually, just reading through some trvia AND ESPECIALLY THE LINKS I'M SORRY BUT- they all literally make me giggle ahaha, sometimes i wish writing the funny can come this naturally to me- and some other details like the symbolism! the choice of birthdates [plus dr. sunshine's dea-], especially interesting :O overall you have such a colorful cast [literally, both visually and written-wise], i hope to see more of these stories!

next person: i’m working on a project, and i’ve finished some bios for it here! but feel free to talk about whatever- also don't feel pressured to type a lot for me! i just wanted to vibe here lol

v AWWWWW THANK YOU SO MUCH???? i'd admit that characterization took me a while to figure out [especially with fellas like layla] SO I'M SO HAPPY YOU THINK SO!! ALSO i remember seeing you in this thread and seeing you've been writing for a long time is woahhh, impressive! :O

fun_fetti

@ dazey-the-goat !

I gave a good read through both Romeo and Layla's bios, and I'm in love with the characterizations! With how many characters there are (especially in a site like Toyhouse), sometimes it's a tricky balance to create a character with both an engaging backstory and rich personality-- which, at the end, is the core to any character! Who they are and what made them like that. I love how you write your story in full text instead of separate blobs, which weaves that backstory and personality together! Introduces them perfectly, the read itself flows very well and your writing style is super clean!

The details you give for your characters tell so much about who they are, over their basic character traits. I love the explanation behind each detail, and the "Little Notes/Trivia section" in the end adds so much to that! It's like the full meal to get to know a character and then a dessert to see their little quirks and things that make them tick. Both super creative writing and very professional structuring!! <3

Also, irrelevant to the writing, tHOSE ICONS YOU MADE FOR YOUR CHARACTERS?? UGH SOOOO CUUUUTE) <3

If you have a favorite genre, go through my tags and choose your read <3 (But please don't judge me too hard if it's a super old piece HAHA) Also let me know which piece you chose cause I'm so curious >:) I'd prefer it if you gave me your thoughts on a narrative piece over any HCs/Bios/lore but read whatever your heart desires, any thoughts are well recieved!! <3

If you prefer to read something that's more recent, you can click here. Or if you wanna see my favs, go to the "Favorite pieces" section here and pick one! They all have little summaries <3

oupy claim!

wow your literature was excellent!! i love your VOICE, i love that you write like you're from the 19th century. it's so fun to read and the way you use your words is so refreshing and compelling and unique. it is kind of challenging, in a fun way - the way your writer's vocabulary includes lesser known words makes every sentence like... really crunchy and fulfilling.

i am pretty much instantly enamoured with your characters - the way you set the scene is really rich in imagery and genuinely feels like an old movie. i like the way you make your characters interact with each other. i am always very impressed with people who write dialogue well, and you certainly do! your characters might not talk like people in modern times, but they definitely talk like they have identities and motives and senses of humour. which is excellent, fr!! you can clearly sense the weight of simon and henri's relationship and the feelings they have for each other, which is so cool because writing romance is pretty hard. and you don't overdo it either, you keep it subtle and allow the reader to infer from all the surrounding elements.

overall, what really stands out to me is just the way you describe things and use adjectives to precisely convey atmosphere. your prose is rich and flavourful. like a delicious broth.

for the next person, feel free to check my literature tab if you want! the works in there that i'm most proud of are our lady of the reeds, the surface of a seraph, and lotus-eater but the latter two have 18+ elements. i write a lot, just not about my ocs - i'm a self published poet :)

MeowMeow422

manyface I read this one and oh my catto! It's so lovely!🥰😻

I absolutely love poetry so this was a treat to read. I rarely find ABBA rhyming schemes so that was a nice surprise as well.

I love your use of words/ vocab btw. Simple yet strong, powerful yet gentle. There's def a melancholy vibe and sadness to how the speaker(?) is going to be sacrificed, but also a little hopeful when the lady didn't take her.

Even eldritch beings have more heart than some humans.

My fav part has got to be the last line: "To lay her wild claim upon the girl who leads her home."

Oh my gawd, that hit me. Idk why, but it just seems kinda sweet? Like, it kinda gives me this visual of a 'witch' ostracised by everyone but then there's little girl who doesn't and treats the woman with kindness.

Lowkey reminds me of Maleficent ngl

_______

Np. This is my latest work, tho it's still a wip.

Alternatively...

I also write lots of poetry for others in this thread (you'll have to read through quite a lot lol); you can check out Kier, Zanzibar, or Cecilé profiles; or my lits on AO3/ lits tab.

Ya don't have to so 'em all of course. Just whichever catches your fancy
