Answer to a question from the user above

Posted 5 years, 11 months ago (Edited 5 years, 8 months ago) by Caine

Similarly to "answer to the question from the oc above", the idea of this game is to answer to something the user above you asks! I was debating whether to name the thread this or "ask a question to the user below" and got a headache trying to decide which one, but really they are the same thing!

This is not an OC game: this is for users to ask things from other users, similarly to "ask a question to the user above you" but in reverse. Hopefully it'll be a fun way to learn more about the users here & get a chance to talk about something you like!

Rules:

  1. Make sure to claim first! This way you'll avoid getting ninjad by someone faster than you
  2. Your answer can be as long or short as you wish to make it to be! Just use the spoiler marker if you end up writing a lot or including lot of images
  3. Wait for at least 3 people to post after you before claiming again! If 12 hours pass, anyone can reply and/or post a new answer
  4. Keep your questions vague enough that people will have something to answer to them!
Don't ask:
  • any super personal questions, like full name or home town
  • questions of morals such as "what would you do if...". While these can be fun, they can really easily get under people's skin and cause stir and drama, and we're here to have a good time and not fight
  • anything that could be considered even vaguely NSFW or sexual in nature
  • idk just keep it civil and not weird or creepy and you'll be fine

If I see someone asking for too personal things or being rude or behaving strangely I'll privately message them to fix their message. Feel free to also DM me if you see strange or rule-breaking behavior!

Question examples:

Here are some things to maybe give ideas to what kind of things to ask! Feel free to use these or do your own thing, as long as it's following the rules

  • INTERESTS: Favourite movie/book/anything? Hobbies? Strange trivia you know?
  • CHARACTERS: Your most expensive character?
  • CREATIVE: Are you more of an artist or a writer? Your creative influences?
  • STORYTIME: Funniest elementary school memory? Has anything strange ever happened to you?

If the thread has been stuck for +12 hours anyone is free to answer and ask a new question!

For the first person posting:

What kind of music do you like?

myoukyomou

80s synthwave, new wave, or just 80s rock in general. The kind of music you'd drive down a highway in sunglasses and bisexual lighting to. My OCs are basically a tribute to action movies/shows, especially ones from pre-2000s. I just try and extract the overall energy of old action movies and add my own spin to it, along with mixing a little sci-fi in there cause it's fun to play around with. A few songs I could pinpoint that serve as good examples, and overall a good fit for my main OCs are John Cafferty's "Hearts on Fire", Eikichi Yazawa's "THE TROUBLE MAN", and Kenny Loggins' "Danger Zone". Really, just any song with that old school flair, maybe even a little bit of older synths thrown in here and there is perfect.

I could also pin jazz rock/jazz fusion onto them as well, like Black Scar Blues by Crazy Ken Band, or anything by Sukima Switch. It's a good reflection to the melancholy that surrounds my OCs as well. Some might expect jazz blues for this because it sounds sadder but I think jazz fusion fits better due to the faster tempo and slightly heightened energy (yea i know the song i listed does have 'blues' in its name but it is definitely faster than most blues songs LOL). I guess I see it as symbolism to how most of them have already overcome/are learning to overcome their past instead of being stuck in it.

Has your taste in characters changed over time? Please do elaborate on your preference in characters, whether it be OCs or characters in media, and if you think it's changed, even if its drastic or only a little bit. Could be anything, whether its design, personality/traits/quirks, abilities... maybe even setting, or even art style as well.

Really interesting question! My taste in ocs has definitely changed over time, though the theme/style of the characters I use most often over the years has not. In the past (like 2015) I'd often get ocs that have more cute aesthetics, some with lace, light and pastel colors, lots of food themes as well. Over time I prefer more complex and mature designs (as in adult characters  over teen or kid ocs) and even for the cuter designs I currently own they can't all be pastel. But consistently, the characters I used most all had dark hair colors and somewhat formal wear(at least a dress shirt)

Have you drawn a piece with a background you're really proud of?

I honestly never mind what fastfood I get, when it's good it's good. Everything has it's pros and cons. Does Panda Express count as fast food? Always enjoy it whenever I get it.

Would childhood you be proud of your works now?

DvalinProductions

I think younger me would be amazed of how much i improved through the years (and probably ask me to draw one of his ocs)

Do you have that one song that when you first listened you loved it so much that you listened to it ad nauseam? Which one is it?

BewareOfTheMenace

Yes, too lazy to link and I have a lot but my current fav is Summer Breeze, both by Seals & Crofts and Isley Brothers

When making ocs, do you take inspirations from anything? Like stereotypes, tropes, real life people and celebrities, objects, archtypes, other characters, etc. Because I do that all the time.

yes to the first one. to the other questions ahh there was a point in my life that was just awful and no good; i had no access to any of the other outlets i usually used which allocated to Absolute Catharsis on majority of my ocs. to say i was sympathizing is an understatement they were literally me fr. there was one guy who had it super bad (maomaotou) but after that moment of mine both that oc and i were looking to a brighter future. funny thing is im not That emotionally attached to him considering his origin was a one off joke that developed into something more (he's like 30x worse than me but hey he's just taking his time)

NP: Who are your biggest inspirations for art / writing? Any old masters you like to study, or someone currently on the scene?

randomslimer

i dont take inspiration from people. to be honest i just draw random shapes until i get ideas

np: what is the weirdest thing you ever ate/drank

SODAPUNKED

I'm thinking it has to be kombucha. None of my family members think it tastes good but I do. It's one of my favorite drinks besides coffee.

NP: how do you gain wisdom? (A question I'm asking so I can probably use for some comic dialogue)

Aetheri

I guess jit depends on the type of wisdom. For knowledge about stuff I love reading books, watching YouTube videos, etc. For knowledge about “life” (like morals, how people work, etc.) I try to learn through anecdotes from people around me or my own personal experience. Very learn from my mistakes (but also from others’ mistakes so I don't need to make one lol).

What’s something that, if you had infinite free time, would want to learn? Not something you are already learning but something you would like to learn if you had the time/opportunity.

Hatto

It’s tricky. I would either learn a) how to speak Japanese. Just a very useful language in my opinion b) how to speedrun games like Celeste. I play those type of games in a casual way, but speedrunning would take the fun to a whole another level

If you had 10.000 dollars, but you could only spend it on art supplies, what would you buy?

Cheese_Ferret

I would get a fancy printer of some sort so I can sell prints. Or an iPad  :^)

What is a strange habit you picked up from doing art?
