General Thread for PSAs

Posted 8 years, 10 days ago (Edited 5 years, 6 months ago) by Vespisia

Hello!

8/9: New PSA added.

5/14: 2 new PSAs added.

4/8: New PSA posted and additional information on Squidribs added to relevant PSA.

It was suggested that there should perhaps be a general thread for PSAs which is a fine idea. A place that links to other PSAs and keep things organized.
You can link your threads/PSAs/etc, and I'll add them to the posts. :D
Please Note: I can only accept public PSAs. Anon PSAs are too much of a risk to accept, as they can be open to slander.

Things That Count for PSAs!
-Scams
-Illegally chargebacked (you did a commission, but person claims you never did, for instance)
-Being shifty on doing owed things (taking months on an icon for example, lack of contact or updates, etc)
-Tracing and profiting off of it...
-Etc...

Things That Don't Count!
-Someone has better art than you
-Rude behavior
-Subjective issues
-Dog ate your homework

Obviously, this is just the basic frame work. Each case is different. For instance, someone could go around harassing artists for art and customs, or for people to give up their adopts and whatnot, and that could almost certainly be considered for a PSA...

Of course, it would be great if no more PSAs occur, but in the case they do, I support people posting them because they keep the community safe and will link to them in this general thread. owo/

There'll be two posts, one for PSAs and one for resolved cases! ^^

Thought I would post an update on what happened with my case--

I contacted the artist of the original adopt, but they were unwilling to get personally involved. For my own peace of mind, I went ahead and contacted the artist of the lookalike for sale. They claimed they had never seen the design-- which I doubt, but with a caveat I'll explain-- but they were willing to change the color palette of the design, which helped differentiate it quite a bit from mine.

When I say that I doubt they hadn't seen the design, I believe that they believe that. After all, you can't actually find the design anywhere online without doing serious digging (like, internet archive levels of digging). It's a pretty common psychological phenomenon to forget where you first saw or learned of something and thus believed you came up with it yourself. And they were very friendly and willing to work with me, so it definitely did not feel malicious.

All's well that ends well, I would say!

i paid an artist for a commission after they said they had finished the sketch. they finished the two commissions that were paid for before mine, and said they would get it to me within 24 hours. it’s been about a week and a day now, and i don’t think they’ve even been online since then. normally i wouldn’t mind a wait time this length, but these were specifically 24 hour commissions and i haven’t even gotten an update.

edit: yep. they haven’t been online in 10 days.

amernoir

flower-magic there's a possibility something might've happened to them - considering they haven't been online. Do they have any other art accounts? If not I think to wait it out. It's not like they've been online, so I'd give them the benefit of the doubt

Accela

amernoir yeah, that’s the only reason why i’ve held out. if there was a tragedy or something else serious that was affecting them, i would feel bad bombarding them when they have so much else going on.

So I wanted to ask an opinion from you guys? I'm gonna put the story in a spoiler so I don't clutter the page.

i don't order commissions very often, but I did buy a commission on May 2nd, 2018 from a relatively well-known artist.

I bought this art during a time when the artist had a home break-in and lost a lot of valuables, so I felt bad and wanted to help them. They had a sale on their artwork and I thought it was good for the quality of work, and even ordered a bigger piece.. I believe it was probably the most expensive commission I've ever personally ordered of an OC at the time, which was 60$ USD. It was originally purchased for me and a friend of our couple OCs.

Now, I'm a very patient person and I knew that they had somewhat of a backlog of other commissioners, but at the time I didn't see any public list of commissioners.. I didn't notice any journals when I checked. I waited for about a month and they were working very diligently on their artwork. By that, I mean completing one or two pictures every two days and posting a lot on owed work. I thought for SURE that due to this, I would get my commission a timely manner within a 3 or 4 month span.

However, as more and more artwork was shelled out, and I wasn't seeing any progress on my commission, I went to check on their profile again - at this point it had been roughly two months since the commission was ordered. I saw they had a public stash file of all their commissioners.

I was literally behind over 44 people. As of now, I can't find the other people before me except for 44, but I believe it was way higher than that. This was never aforementioned, and there are at least 65 people behind me in the commission queue as well. This artist WON'T stop accepting commissions either, and it's honestly.. rather strange. The massive workload gave me anxiety and I wasn't even the artist.

And these people ordered MULTIPLE pieces per person and on top of the multiple orders, they were receiving freebies from the artist as a promotional thank-you.

I thought it was extremely upsetting to see that I was so far back-logged that I knew I wouldn't see my commission for at least another two months, but it was alright with me (at the time) since they were actively posting commissions. I didn't expect it to take any longer than 2 - 3 more months with how fast they were going.

I noted them asking if they could give me a timeframe of how long this commission would take and if I could see a WIP on July 3rd. They responded in that same day saying they would send me a WIP within a week. It never came. I would have pressured for it again but I wanted to give the artist space since as I said, they are posting very frequently.

Flash forward to November 13th, the person I ordered the couple commission with had gone radiosilent on all forms of communication and they were very distant. I wasn't even sure if they wanted to keep our OCs paired together anymore which is why I asked the artist for a character change with my ex (who at the time I was dating) - they responded within the same day saying it was okay. We had a four-day long conversation period where we were going over the details.

Flash forward to December 23rd. The person I was dating at the time, we fell apart heavily so I couldn't use the character they had in my commission anymore, so I asked for another change. They were very swift in replying on the same day again and telling me that I can change. I told them it'd be the last change I made to the commission since it was with two of my own OCs.

Flash forward again to February 15th. At this point, I'm frustrated because I have been waiting 9 entire months for my commission. I have seen NO dent in this person's queue, I am no where NEAR towards the start of the list to receive my commission (at least 10 more people ahead), and I have a financial situation. So I ask them for a refund due to my situation. They refuse since it's against their TOS (which I never signed or read, I didn't even know they had one) and tell me instead that they'll send me a WIP tomorrow (on the 16th).

It's now the 22nd. I haven't received my WIP, and I've noticed that they're beginning to slow down in producing art the last few months. They still post weekly, but at this point I'm just EXTREMELY frustrated because I've never had something take this long.. I don't know if this is the standard for waiting on commissions? If I knew it would take this long, I NEVER would have ordered it. I consider myself an extremely patient person - I don't rush and let the artist take time to do their work. But when I am told I will receive a WIP TWICE, and it never arrives, and I don't expect to see my art within the next month or two after waiting already for 9 months.. I'm just pissed tbh.

I really love this person's art and they've kept great communication over notes, but it's taken so long that I don't have paypal's buyer protection anymore since it's been over 180 days. So if they never did my art, I would just be fucked. I dunno what to do tbh.. I really don't want to resort to having to write a PSA on them, but if I don't receive something within a month I might make one..? Would that be too soon, though?
