“Sweetheart, what did you bury in the garden?”

Haunt looked up at Princess, concern shining in their eyes, they were very worried, she was messing with stuff she didn’t understand, dangerous stuff. If she went wrong, it could kill her and if not, then seriously mess her up psychologically or physically. They couldn’t tell her the truth, they had sworn not to, but Haunt knew they could at least try to protect her as best they could.
“Nothing.” Princess evaded the truth but didn’t lie.
“Listen, sweetie, you can talk to me. Tell me what you buried in the garden.” they tried to give the best inviting smile that they could, but it probably looked more psychotic than anything.
“I didn’t bury anything in any garden.” She replied looking cooly into Haunt’s eyes, it technically was true, Haunt didn’t know what a garden was. The mob of Evergrim called a certain snowy area behind the castle “the garden” but it was nothing more than rock with snow on it just like everything else around here.
“Heh, I didn't think so.” Haunt looked down at the stone bricks that made up the slick floor, they gave a defeated chuckle. It wasn’t their place to make anyone do anything, just to help guide them to happiness. They walked away with a sad smile.

Now of course Princess had buried something in the garden, it was something strange, and of course cursed like everything else in this messed up place. She was simply trying to relax in from of the fire, when she heard a crash followed by a scream
“PRINCESSSSS” welp, she knew who that was. She ran over and found her best friend Pierce had somehow tied himself into a pretzel when he had slipped. She rolled her eyes and helped him up.
“Okay! Okay! You’ll never believe what I found! I think it’s a magical artifact!” he exclaimed, now to someone normal this might sound incredulous, but Princess and pierce had been trying to prove the existence of magic for a while now.
“Hah, are you sure it’s magic and not just plain cursed.” She said with a laugh following him, he was limping from his tumble.
“Are you sure you know where you’re going? The halls change a lot, maybe you shouldn’t have left it…”  she asked after they had walked around for a while.
“No, it WANTS us to find it.” he said very confidently, this caused Princess to shudder.
“That’s creepy, it probably is cursed.” she pointed out with a slight frown, maybe this wasn’t as good of a discovery as they had thought. But then she saw it, it was gorgeous, pristine and white, it glittered even though there was little light. It drew her in like a moth to a flame, it was like a game you couldn’t stop playing, or a snack you can’t stop eating. She was addicted to looking at it.
“I’ll be right back, i’m just gonna go ice… everything. I wonder if i’ll be able to find any ice!” he laughed at his own joke, but she was fixated on the object.
“mhm” was all she said as he left. It reminded her of something she had seen before, it was on the tip of her tongue but she couldn’t find it. It looked so, so smooth and soft…
“AND DON’T TOUCH IT!!” Pierce called poking his head back around the corner. Princess quickly retracted her paw, it had been less than an inch away, all of her instincts were telling her to touch it, even just for a second. It was so pure and clean, what harm would one little touch do? Her brain knew that this was unnatural, wanting to touch it so badly meant she should do anything except touch it. But maybe if she felt it, she’d be able to place what it was. After hours of excruciating pain of fighting with herself, she knew something was wrong, pierce should be back, but she just couldn’t tear herself away. And before she knew it in the blink of an eye her paw touched it for just a second, but she now belonged to it. It started pulsating an angry glowing red, in a rhythm that she knew, she almost had the word. She placed both of her front paws on it this object, it was everything, her life, her soul, her… heart. That’s what it was! It was a heart, not a cutesy little shape but an organ, one that kept you alive, she knew that if she tried to break her connection with her heart… since when was it her heart, she’d surely die. And that thumping, that beat, it was a heartbeat, her heartbeat. She closed her eyes and lay upon the stone, it sank into her fur, then through her fur, and through her skin, it sat in her chest where her heart belonged. Beating, the steady beat would guide her.
