What is a Stargara?

Stargaras are most commonly a bat-like kemonomimi species who were originally created by two Gods to explore the universe and wander the galaxies to take care of their own little groups of stars. They are very adventurous and curious, and live all around the universe. They’re a species that carries stars around with them. They are protectors of stars, star clusters and - even more rare - sometimes whole planets.

Where do they come from?
Stargaras are creatures that are born from the stars and crafted by two gods. The first Stargaras were tasked with finding a place for their species to grow and thrive, a task they happily accepted. What they did and where they went, though, was entirely up to them; all their gods wanted was for them to live and be happy. They've moved from planet to planet, universe to universe, and while they had for a time found a place they could call home it was short lived.

Stargaras originally hailed from a homeplanet in the same system as the planet Aermerea, it was called Couria. Unfortunately due to being war torn, and despite their best efforts after the war ended, their planet was destroyed. More information on this is not exactly available yet as no Stargara seems to know what exactly happened, but there are many rumours flying about. For instance, some say the planet they inhabited was already at the end of its time.

Some Stargaras chose to stay behind from the original group to settle down on other planets that they found on the way to their home, but there's an endless amount of Stargaras still searching for that perfect home for them.

That being said, most of the population of Stargaras now live on Aermerea, or the Orion Archipelago. There is a small Stargara sanctuary on the only inhabitable chunk of their own homeworld; it is said only the gods still live there along with those privileged to serve them. Stargaras have adapted and changed in Aermerea and Orion from the original first generation of Staragaras due to environmental and magical changes. It is unclear if Stargaras in other systems have been affected in a similar way and bear their own unique traits.

Anatomy
Each Stargara is unique in looks and personality. No two Stargaras are the same, even twins have minute differences. Stargaras are creatures that have to surround themselves with the objects they protect, and fashion these items as their trinkets. These ‘trinkets’ can be present in many places of their anatomy or fashion such as jewelry on their body, whether it be starry belts or earrings, etc. Or more a feature of their actual person like ear tips, and inside glass baubles, ears or tail, in their aura and more. Most are for show, but sometimes you'll see the stars they care for hanging around them with the other stars to be protected. Trinkets can also be other things besides stars but only rarely. They're very protective creatures over their stars and will use abilities to keep their precious stars protected. Some rare items include elemental and even seasonal essences.

Poachers find the Stargara's trinkets to be quite valuable with the various abilities one could possess. These trinkets bestow magic upon those to whom they are freely given, but if taken forcefully they are cursed. The trinkets that their tail carries is what holds their life together; if all the trinkets get lost or stolen, the Stargara will die a slow death. If only one or a few are taken they will become sick until they generate new ones; the more you take the more sick they get until their death. So if a Stargara gives you one trinket they more or less get the common cold, anything else is downhill from there. It's said these trinkets grant wishes or powers based on the alignment of the stargara.

There are very little Stargara poachers in Aermerea if at all. There have been a few known to pop up in parts of the Orion Archipelago and more commonly other parts of the universe due to the Stargara’s more limited numbers and them being easier to hunt.

Umbralwisps and Cursed Galaxybabies are also able to sustain themselves off Stargara trinkets. For Umbralwisps it's a temporary and fleeting snack before grabbing a Lumen or another Vani’s soul. For Cursed Galaxybabies it's one hell of a charge and very prized.

The glass around their tail objects is meant for protection against such fates. The black part of the tail is electroconductive and is able to heat up the glass enough to put trinkets in or take them out upon request. Due to the glass not being able to cool down straight away, once this process is done, a Stargara will disappear, or isolate for a week to be on it's own until the glass cools down to normal again. This glass can also be used in the reproduction of Stargaras with other Stargaras.

Children
The Stargara children are a little bit more different than the parents are. While they do have a tail, they have yet to actually develop the protective glass around the objects at their tail. They have to be extremely careful as to where they go and to make sure each star is counted for at the end of the day. Parents won't leave their children unguarded until the glass shell has been grown. It takes six months to one year for a Stargara's glass to grow in, leaving the parents to be on guard until the moment comes. There have been some cases of delayed glass growing in which it could be two or even three years before it actually develops.

Once the child has turned thirteen, they'll be able to go off on their own to join the other Stargaras if they choose to leave home.
