Their History
(General plot - see specific branch pages for branch histories)

In Human Year 2010 (Year Zero) were the weaklings of Hell sent crawling from the depths of their pit of lava, for the corners of Hell grew too compact to house them all. At first they were spat unto the planet at random as Satan purged his ranks of these useless underling slugs. But then, as space began to free just-so, he opened the first Schisms in the Earth. From here do the little demons steadily trickle out from. Now six years later, in 5 A.B. and Human Year 2015, these creatures have finally begun to settle into their new unwilling roles within the mortal plain.

There is squabbling among the Hellborn: what now, where do we go, did Satan abandon us? While some seek to steal souls and ruin the lives of humanity, others have grown lazy and laid down to be pampered as pets. They hide among humans and breed, increasing their numbers to overthrow the plain. But if the newly birthed Earthborn can't suck up their vice of laziness and pride then the bitter Hellborn may just start... resenting them. Will these demons let themselves be controlled by their humans, or will they be the ones in charge?

Keeping Time

Time keeping was first implemented in May 2020 real time, or 2015 human time / 5 A.B. Demons have lived on the surface for 6 years.
Every 4 real time months is an in game year. If it is 2015/5 A.B. in game when it is May 2020 in real time, then on Sept 2020 it will be 2016/6 A.B. in game.
There is no set age for how old Hell has existed before the breach; it's likely been billions and billions of years.
Note that when counting years in "before breach" time it is backwards. WRONG: 1 B.B., 2 B.B., 0 A.B. RIGHT: 2 B.B., 1 B.B., 0 A.B.

Aging your demon

Calculating demon age works differently depending on if your demon was born a human and if they lived in Hell before the Breach.
Earthborn remain harmless babies for a few months (2 real life weeks), toddlers half a year (2 real life months), teenagers roughly three years (12 real life months), and adults 14 years (56 real life months/4 years) before becoming "mature."
For a detailed guide on aging demons through in-game time go to the General Species Info page under "Life, Age, and Death."

Ex 1: Carol was born a human in 1815 and died 1832, at age 17. Thus, she went to Hell 183 human years before the Breach.
At the year she was kicked from hell it was Year 0 / 0 A.B / 2010 human year.
In 2015 / 5 A.B. she would be 189 or 188 years a demon depending on birth month, or 205/206 years alive total.
She would have spent 6 years on Earth by 2015 / 5 A.B.

Ex 2: Kitty was born an Earthborn on human year 2023, or 13 A.B. On 2033, or 23 A.B. (10 in game years and 40 real life months) they will be 10 human years old (well into adulthood for a demon), and have nothing else to calculate. Easy for Earthborns!

Ex 3: DeMarcus was always a demon, having just been spawned as one. They can say that they were 'born' roughly 10,000 B.B.
They were kicked out of hell on 2 A.B, or 2012 in human years. DeMarcus will be 10,006 years in total on 2015 / 5 A.B, making them fairly elderly.

Time Keeping Rules + FAQ

✦ Demons not playing in the ARPG need not keep up with in-game time.
✦ Seasons are not kept up with due to seasons occurring differently across the globe.
✦ Humans in the ARPG will age with the game; a human aged 2 in 2015 in-game will be aged 3 in 2016 in-game.
✦ Human OCs can be granted limited immortality by the demons they live with to keep them from dying too quickly.
✦ Read more about limited immortality in the General Species Info page under "Giving Gifts."
✦ Human society will remain stagnant will little to no progress to keep society from advancing too fast in-game for players to keep up with.
✦ In the future, if players overwhelmingly want a large advancement in plot (say, more apocalyptic problems), society can move forward.

Living on Earth before the Breach

Demons existing before May 2020 real time who have already set a backstory before the breach (i.e. before the lore updated)
do not have to edit their backstory. These demons left Hell under special circumstances and do not have to choose a schism to crawl from.

Demons created after May 2020 real time can still apply to have a backstory where they were on Earth before the breach,
through the pedigree registry form only. HOWEVER staff will accept these only rarely.
In the future there will be a special reward type that allows a player to have their demon's BB backstory auto-accepted!

The Map

The early wave of demons, before 5 A.B., were rapidly spat out into random places of the Earth. However, now there are a set number of "Schisms," or inconspicuous cracks in the Earth, that demons begin their Earth-life at. All demons after the early wave must decide to begin their life from one of these.
The thick demonic magic emanating from the schisms causes human eyes to simply pass over them as if not there. Yes. They can fall in and die.

Schisms and branches are often spread across the globe, spanning quite the distance. Schisms themselves each have one "Portal" located nearby, which may be used to teleport across this vastness to any other open portal. Portals are invisible to humans and they cannot cross through them, unless a demon wills it and grants them this gift. Demons who have no destination in mind will be teleported randomly; those who know where to go will arrive at their destination. One should watch their back when teleporting randomly, as some schism portals are guarded by violent branches.

Opening a new schism: At least 1 schism per continent is the goal. The first schism of each continent is to be opened by a player of the ARPG! Example: Do you live anywhere within the European continent? Are you even the first player from the continent? You get to open and name that schism, including the fictional location it is opened up at (with guidance and approval from staff). Fill the Google Form out here if you live on one of the continents without a schism below.
