"Our proud lantern pelts shall guide our journeys to glory!"
- Shiningstar

Long ago, the clan had thought that they knew their territory from the fog, however, they would learn that wouldn't be the case as a storm completely tips the settlements upside-down. Cats cried out in the deep thick fog of LanternClans blinding territory, but only one cat could be the answer for all their problems. Starlingfire, a cat who was once disgraced and mocked for her glow
would soon be the hero for the clan. The mollie would run around the territory to find cats and reunite the clan all at once at the Tree Of Gathers. Afterward, the clan soon realized the importance of the glow and soon followed suit, asking how Starlingfire had gained her glowing pelt. As she showed them the herb that allowed the cats to glow each one took it without a second thought, she explained how it worked.

Each cat is born with a Hidden Pelt, and only when the herb, Radiant Blossom, is consumed the side-effects is that the plant causes cats the ability to glow... The glow is permanent and when the cats have kits their glow will pass onto them.

After a while, the cats would live in unity and would continue their times as settlements in the clan until a problem arises. The Radiant Blossom began to disappear the more the clan used it. So when the clan began to use the blossom less another issue arose. Kits were being born with weaker glows than other kits. Their solution, which was endorsed and executed by a leader named Scorchstar, became a hierarchy system in which a kit was judged by its glow to see what rank it was.

While each cat has compulsory training for all skills, including medicine, they are only taught the basic skills and their ranks are taught more of the advanced skills of their group.

Ranks
Leader - Specific pelts are considered rare in color. These pelts are "Royal Pelts" and these cats have the opportunity to become the leader of LanternClan. They are given 9 lives in the inside of the Tree Of Gathers.
Deputy - Like the leader, these cats also have a "Royal Pelt" and are the next in line for leadership. They give the leader advice on what to do for the clan. There is a deputy for each settlement to make sure order is retained.
Messengers - These cats shine the brightest out of any cats. Because the territory is constantly in a fog these cats go around settlements when the leader needs them at the Tree of Gathers for certain meetings. They usually live with the leader at The Cats Of The Ancient Root. They also decide the rank of newborn kits.
Medicine Cats - These cats have what is considered a "Firefly Pelt". They periodically brighten and dull much like a firefly. There are at least 2 Medicine Cats or Apprentices at each settlement.
Queens - There are no pelts for this rank, Queens are cats who are pregnant for future kits and are heavily looked after until their kits are born and they become old enough for their Apprentice training.
Apprentices - There are no pelts for this rank, Apprentices are given a mentor from whichever rank they are assigned to by a Messenger.
Kits - The next generation of cats for LanternClan. They are protected with their queen until they become Apprentices. Sometimes, Queens will manipulate the rank of their kits by stealing a Radiant Blossom, as having Kits with higher ranks from Queens are socially a bragging right.
Warriors - They have an 'average' glow. Not too bright but not too dull. They take the jobs of patrolling and protecting settlements from intruders like boars, foxes, and snakes.
Hunters - Considered one of the lowest ranks a cat can be given, they shine the least and are taught to hunt for prey for their settlements. They are usually looked down upon for their dull pelts.

While these ranks are good on paper, it becomes apparently clear that cats from settlements feel as though their potential isn't being used because of what they look like and how they were born. This causes conflict in the clan and sometimes rebellions may start.

Age System
The Age System goes by earlier than other systems. Every other Sunday, the next moon comes around. The only exception to having your ceremony delayed or early is:

1. Your character is sick
2. Your character has an injury
3. The leader decides to promote you early or later
4. Your character has shown poor behavior or respect for the clan
5. A mentor isn't able to do training because they became ill or injured
6. The old leader has died early and the Deputy is appointed earlier

Kits :: 0-6 Moons
Apprentices :: 6-13 Moons
Warriors :: 13-100+ Moons
Hunters :: 13-100+ Moons
Medicine Cats :: 13-100+ Moons
Messengers :: 13-100+ Moons
Elders :: 120+ Moons
Deputies :: 25+ Moons (Also depends on Hidden Pelt)
Leaders :: 35+ Moons (Also depends on Hidden Pelt)

Hidden Pelts
There are several types of Hidden Pelts in the LanternClan universe. In order for a cat to be judged it is first judged by the color of its Hidden Pelt, after that, it is judged by the glow of its Hidden Pelt. So while a cat can have a "Royal Color", considered to be one rank among those with Deputies, Messengers, and Leaders. If it has a very dull or weak glow then it may become a Hunter for the Clan, as a Royal Color is sometimes considered a more rare type of Hidden Pelt rather than one that actually contributes to a cat's rank that of a rank. However, on one exception, if a cat has a Royal Coat and a Bright Pelt then it will be more likely to become a Deputy, Messenger, Warrior, or Leader. Though Messengers must always have a Bright Pelt no matter the color of their Hidden Pelt, Warriors must always have a Neutral to Bright glow, Medicine Cats must always have a Firefly Pelt, and Hunters must always have a Dull glow, while a Deputy and Leader are required to have both a Royal Pelt and Bright Pelt no matter the circumstances. Royal Pelts are given a normal rank and do normal tasks until they are chosen for Leader or Deputy.

The biggest difference between the color of the Hidden Pelt and the glow of a Hidden Pelt is that a Hidden Pelts glow strength is genetic while the color of a Hidden Pelt is not. This is why Medicine Cats in the Clan are encouraged to have kits.

How Much Hidden Pelt?
After getting a couple of requests and some confusion of artists not sure how much of their character should have a Hidden Pelt I have made a simple guide here for demonstration!
HP_Examples.png
The first example that is not allowed is TOO LITTLE Hidden Pelt, remember, these cats have to be SEEN in thick fog in their territory, it is not only viewed as taboo but detrimental to a LanternClan cat in their survivability. The only time a cat doesn't have a HP is when they have the Eye HP Mutation, where the HP is only in the cats eyes and not anywhere else. This mutation is rare and cats who have this mutation are seen as curses from DimClan, and bad omens from SpiritClan.

The second example has TOO MUCH Hidden Pelt on it, it's beyond the point of being reasonable and realistic in this world. A cat must have SOME pattern on it, this one does not, let us at least see some fur!!

Now onto the third example... Close but not yet... You definitely have a pattern there but there is just still too much HP on this cat.  This would be an acceptable cat with the Reverse HP Mutation where a cat has too much HP on them (similar to how melanism works), but like the mutation of the Eye HP these are extremely rare. Cats with these mutations are seen as prophetic, the last thing we want is a bunch of prophetic cats roaming the territory like common folks.

These last two are a PERFECT representations of how much HP should be on a cat. Of course, these patterns are not needed as this is for demonstrative purposes but these are what you would and should commonly see in the world of LanternClan.

Other information that isn't included here but has been asked before is that;
- It doesn't matter how complex the pattern is.
- It doesn't matter what type of color in that spectrum you want to use. Pastel colors are completely a-ok! Just make sure that it doesn't look too dull for Dull Pelts.
- There is no favoritism/bias/social connotation on what type of pattern your character has, there can be personal bias. (eg; a cat might find another cat with a frog-patterned HP as something cute or attractive, but this is only an individual conception. Not LCs.) This means your OC won't be ridiculed/glorified for having a specific pattern by LCs society. (TL;DR It is not considered taboo to have a skull-pattern on your OC)
