Style Challenge

Collage Style

November's prompt is a style challenge, specifically for a style I've dubbed "Collage". This is inspired by certain tumblr theme makers, who overlap different blocks to create the look of a digital scrapbook or journal. The key feature of this style is overlapping, slanted, asymmetrical decorative elements that accent your main content nicely. Pirateskinned is an avid user of this style - either for more cluttered layouts or simpler ones. Another clean theme in a similar style is Nitrogen by xuethms, which combines the layered sidebar and header with a separated title/quote at the top.

In short, the heart of this style lies in the decor, be it character art, palettes, moodboard images, quotes or anything else you can come up with. You can interpret this loosely, but if you want something more concrete you're encouraged to play around with these ideas and styling possibilities:

  • uneven and negative margins
  • slanted and overlapping elements
  • asymmetrical layouts
  • big, fancy offset titles
  • fake "tape" sticking images to the page
  • "useless" decorations, like fa-stars floating around your content

While this style will make it harder, do your best to make your main content readable, intuitive and mobile friendly.

Below are some toyhouse codes that utilize the collage style!

Guidelines

The Challenge:

  • Create a code in the "collage" style, focusing on cluttered decorative elements.
  • Do your best to keep your layout readable and mobile friendly.

You may not...

  • Frankenstein, copy or take heavy inspiration from other coders. All code should be your own.
  • While you can look at the examples for inspiration, keep it to just that. Don't pull layouts, card styling or other things not related to the collage theme from the example codes.

Your posted code should link back to this challenge - it can simply be linked in a text block above the preview.

You're always allowed to release your finished challenge as a P2U code!

If anything is unclear regarding the guidelines you can send a comment here!

Submissions will close on November 25th, 8PM CEST.
