Novatts are a heavily space situated and orientated species, created by the explosion of a dying supernova ages long past. Absorbing the heat and light of their star, S'tan, Novatts are much like many other species, taking millions of years to evolve into what they are now. Exposed to different levels of radiation was theory to be the origin of the differences between the ancients.
The White Moon, warm and reflecting much light, was the domain of it's ancient ruler Apollo and the Star Dust variation.
And on the other side, the void of light absorbing blackness was the Black Matter novatt's Black Moon, home of it's respected guardian, the ancient Noir.
The large ball of salt water known as Laileb-X was once rumored to have a collection of the ancient Sea King's tears of loneliness, the surface and the deep are occupied by Pulsars and Alkoline alike...
And finally, Planet Nav-0X, the homeworld of the most numerous type of novatt. To keep it simple, they've been called the standard type, and ages ago before the civil war...Noname walked among them.
Having been around for a long time, society for them has expanded faster than any human race of other stars, and triply so during their civil wars, which occurred before and after their ancients personal strife. After the start of the post-war baby boom (lovingly called the 'Big Boom'), they've avidly spread around to other neighboring spacefaring planets, trading technologies and creating embassies across the stars as they meet and live side by side many species in the cosmos.
Lingerie is an important part of Novatt mating, and has been around since the earlier times...but, came into especial prominence during the Big Boom, which has continued post-civil war. This sense of style established and brought to popularity by their ancestors is the main force of attraction when picking a partner. Due to the very liberal sex culture, planet Nav-0X itself is now separated by a many number of districts, with the few more isolated and peaceful ones being a place to raise a family away from that all.
Aging
- Standard, Pulsar and Stardust Novatts can live for up to a few centuries.
- Black Matter Novatts can live for up to a few millennia
- Their adult appearance peaks around 25-100 years old.
- It's possible for them to stay youthful looking depending on how they manage themselves through the years.
- Beauty products with star dust, matter, light and etc are a thing.
Diet
- Omnivorous. They eat food made from the animals and plants on their planet, crops from the White Moon and fish from Laileb-X is common traded among planets.
- But...! They can survive on feeding off the energy of stars!
- Can also eat space rocks touched by the light of their own star, and able to feed on the life force of lower and smaller life forms that too have absorbed that energy!
Mating
- They wear more risque clothing to find a mate, lingerie (and the like) is most prominent.
- Despite wide representations of gender, it's normal for both males and females and other to be able to conceive and give birth. Reproduction is similar to humans, though it's not unheard of for Novatts to asexually reproduce either.
- Pregnancies are carried up to 3-9 months, and while both egg laying and live birth are common, premature births are always lain eggs with the Novatt youngling inside staying inside an extra 3 months.

Do they have to wear lingerie?
Not at all. It's become a modern tradition that plenty stick by when choosing mates, and tends to give more free movement (because of the wings and such)...but it's not required
Can Novatts be poly or in poly relationships?
Yes, they can! Sure it's not as socially acceptable among some very old pre-war traditionalists, but for everyone else, well...
Do they have to mate for life?
That is up to you. When they do, it's common to put away the lingerie so to speak, and save it only for their mate(s)' eyes only.
What's most looked for in a mate? Can they mate with other species?
Commonly, confidence is most sought after! The personality of your Novatt would correlate with their personality. So that means if they dress flashy and/or less it's most sought after.
They can mate with any other species and it's fairly common for them to do so!
Can Novatts make hybrids among their own variations?
They can not! It's either one or the other
Do they mate with the other variations?
They can! Black Matter Novatts tend to keep among each other, or else chase multiple partners, due to the loneliness of the longest lifespan amongst the variations.
Can they interact with humans? How would they react?
Yes! On their home planet and some moons, there's other aliens and some humans situated there, but it's not out of the question for Novatts to leave their solar system to live among other species.
How do mutations happen?
Similar to how human biology works with birth defects.
Mutations Novatts currently have happened from breeding with different species, environmental factors, DNA altered by the radiation from their star, and even from breeding with the same variation frequently.
Not everyone in their family is able to GET the mutation! Some may just be carriers of it.
Mutations can cause health problems depending on how they appear.
Ex. A vampire Novatt is more subject to being albino which could damage/hurt their skin in sunlight.
The spike mutation may grow too close or over their eyes and mouth.
The see-through mutation makes them common to bruising and lacking durability.
The glow mutation is more susceptible to predators or those who intend to find them to cause harm.
How are mutations viewed in Society?
Hybrid specific mutations are viewed more neutrally. BUT- very extravagant hybrids are seen somewhat as a whole other variant all their own.
Other mutations such as spikes, see through, vampire, etc. aren't very desirable in partners because of the possibility of negative health issues.
Amputations and Bionic parts?
Thanks to Alkoline technology, these are allowed, and all limbs are pretty much able to function like the limb they've replaced. The prosthetic arm can have a sympathetic wing as well. Higher tech prosthetic with extras are more expensive, but of course, not unheard of.
Can their tentacles be longer? How do they work?
Yes! They can extend but they're kept short and sometimes in their body.
They can hold and grab on to things like normal hand as well as be tacked against solid surfaces out of and in water.
If they're cut off they can grow back after a span of 3 months
Can they have powers?
Yes! Between psychic powers, magical energies, and reality manipulation--I mean, how do you think they're able to eat and/or wear star light itself? It's half innate however, and anything outrageous or godly are only a thing of legend among them, a power that only the ancients have wielded with ease.
Where are the ancients at the moment?
Sea King seemed to have disappeared after the early formation of Laileb-X, and Noname disappeared after the civil wars.
Noir lives amongst her people of the Black Moon, respected by them, and feared by the occasional tourist.
And Apollo has been rumored to be dead more than a few times, due to him rarely leaving his fortresses...more recently, mixed rumors of passionate trysts in the hidden rooms of his labyrinthian fortresses is common.
