Profile

Physical Appearance

  • Long light brown hair with rather messy bangs covering his right eye and the rest tied back into a ponytail
  • Purple eyes
  • Tan skin
  • Very tall in height
  • Brown to light-brown feathered gryphon wings
  • Physically fit with a well muscled build
  • Various scars across his body, the most noticable being one under his left eye and another across the bridge of his nose
  • The scar under his eye still has two stitches in it, and Garren will not give a clear answer about how long they've actually been there... They don't seem to be bothering him though so he doesn't bother with removing them. Weirdo.

Clothing Style

Garren wears a variant of the standard Enlightened uniform, his particular outfit having more personalization due to his high rank. He tends to wear a black top of varying sleeve length depending on the weather, although he prefers sleeveless, along with a jacket in the standard Enlightened shade of green with white cuffs and silver cufflinks that double as communicators. He also wears black pants with form fitting protective legguards on the inside and black boots. He also has two belts around each leg, which he tends to use to hold certain weapons when needed, although sometimes they're left unused. He has similar belts around his hips, his waist, and his left bicep. His right arm has some stray bandages wrapped around his bicep on the outside of his coat, which he says are for random injuries since his colleagues always seem to get themselves in trouble.

His accessories consist of a green headband to (poorly) hold back his bangs, two silver hoop earrings per ear, a green hair tie, and a standard Enlightened tracking collar.

Personality

Garren is a chipper and somewhat eccentric senior General of the Enlightened. His colleagues know him to be friendly, jolly, and a little too enthusiastic about his job, which he acknowledges isn't the best quality to have considering what his work entails. He is protective toward other members of the Enlightened and has also proven to be more merciful and empathetic compared to most other Generals of the Enlightened. In general, he is compassionate and tends to act like a father or older brother to younger members of the Enlightened that gravitate toward him, and he's been known to act as a mentor toward anyone that seeks or needs help or guidance from him. He is generally a well liked person among the Enlightened as long as you're not annoyed by his unending optimism and gung-ho attitude. He has a tendency to worry about everyone he feels he needs to look after, and although he's never harsh on anyone he does teasingly express his exasperation toward people that get into trouble on a regular basis. He does his best to keep everyone safe when he can and is a strong leader that many can easily relate to. His down to earth personality and kind soul make him easy to approach, although he sometime can come off as weird and a little intimidating since he doesn't drop his kindly and cheery demeanor even when carrying out his work, which tends to involve a lot of violent and horrible things when in the field. He doesn't enjoy the oppressive and destructive nature of the Enlightened's work, but he's been in the system so long he seems to just cheerily go along with it with a "what can ya do about it?" sort of demeanor.

Garren is certainly older than he looks and older than he lets on. He has vast amounts of knowledge from past experiences that he's more than happy to share with others, and he tends to ramble off in "back when I was your age" stories easily. Although he is trained and highly skilled in the technologies used by the Enlightened, Garren does not particularly like technology and prefers to let his Direct Subordinate, Ista, handle learning how to use new devices. Since he's one of the most senior members of the Enlightened as a whole, Garren takes his job seriously enough when it matters but knows when he can get away with doing weird things due to his authority. The majority of his faction needs to have a healthy sense of humor to be comfortable under his command, yet they cannot be too lax since this general does not tolerate slacking or half-assed work. Garren is definitely one of the more eccentric generals of the Enlightened, and that's saying something considering how peculiar the majority of them are.

Abilities

  • Ayr rifting - rank 5/5
  • Combat training and highly skilled with firearms
  • Flight by wings

Strengths

  • Wise, supportive, and a good mentor
  • Responsible, reliable, and hard working
  • Optimistic, loyal, and a go-getter
  • Down to earth, protective, and works well with all sorts of people

Weaknesses

  • Tends to worry about everyone and gets stressed trying to ensure everyone's well being
  • Is utterly loyal and committed to the Enlightened and would likely be aimless without it
  • Can sometimes annoy people with his enthusiasm and quirky behaviors
  • Doesn't like learning how to use new technology and usually leaves it to his subordinates

Backstory

Based on the countless stories about his past Garren's told throughout his time with the Enlightened, he apparently came from the primary Gryphonic tribe of Twintristar, Sorata. His father was a well respected warrior, and he often scolded Garren due to his carefree and irresponsible attitude. Although Garren trained to be a skilled warrior as well, he didn't particularly take his duties seriously and spent more time wandering off to explore the Expanse. This created quite a bit of friction between him and his father, and although the two cared for each other they were both disappointed in the other's lack of compromise.

Apparently when Garren was a young adult (so who knows how long ago that was) the Enlightened passed through Sorata while raiding various tribes. Although they didn't directly attack the Gryphonic's main village and just passed through their territory. Garren apparently got curious and followed the vessel too closely, not expecting they were anything he couldn't handle. His arrogance earned him a severe beating from the current general on-board and got him captured and drafted.

During his first few years in the Enlightened he did all he could to rebel and attempt to escape, but eventually his spirit was broken and he fell into a depression that nearly cost him his life on a handful of missions due to lack of focus and resolve to continue. Apparently he was approached by Lord Demrile himself, and although he's not too specific on the details, he somehow managed to bring him out of his depression gradually. Garren's resolve to apply himself to the Enlightened blossomed, despite not agreeing on their cause morally. However, Garren seems to be incredibly loyal to Lord Demrile and is willing to take on any assignment for the organization.

Currently he's one of the longest serving generals of the Enlightened, having worked his way up to leading the C.X.L. Faction over the years. He's mentored numerous other high ranking members over the years, and he's easily one of the most well known and surprisingly well liked members of the organization. He heads his faction with a skilled Monitor, Ista Mareth, as his Direct Subordinate and Exodus Torrent, a lab worker, as his secondary Subordinate. He spent the past 15 or so years mentoring the now current T.Y.L. Faction General, Jake Lekodric, and he's now moved on to mentoring the current D.Z.L. Faction General, Dmitri Ilych, who faces difficulties following a mass desertion headed by the previous general.

Trivia:

  • Garren's last name, Amando, is just a play on the name Armando, which stands out in my mind from two sources. One was the character Diego Armando from Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations. The other was a silly joke from America's Funniest Home Videos in which a studio audience member was playing a multiple choice game and trying to guess what would be said in the paused clip. The clip featured something happening to a woman and her calling out to her husband, and the choices for what the name might be were A) Frank, B) Roger, and C) Armando. I just distinctly remember how ridiculous Armando sounded next to the other two names and was read out loud in an exaggerated suave voice.
    • That being said, even though Armando is a suave sounding name in both of those sources, Garren is anything but suave. That one letter really makes a difference. He does have his own charm, but he's far too silly to be suave.
  • Even though Garren doesn't seem to have any preexisting heart issues, he always claims that his colleagues getting themselves into trouble is "bad for his blood pressure." General Shixa will affirm that Garren has no blood pressure problems and he's just exaggerating.
  • No one is really sure how old Garren is, and he never gives a clear answer about it, and he also hasn't really changed much physically even though he's been in the Enlightened for a very long time. Only some of the oldest members of the Enlightened, such as Lord Demrile or Generals Shixa or Atlas, would be able to claim that Garren did look like a young adult when he was first drafted.
    • It's probably just a matter of Gryphonics living rather long lifespans.
  • Garren has stated on multiply occasions that if he dies, his ashes have to be taken back to Sorata to be tossed into the Expanse so he may "return to the sky." It is tradition for almost all the tribes on Sorata for ashes to be spread into the Expanse so they may "return to the Birdsib Goddess, who will welcome her children with open arms to rejoin the cycle."
    • Garren will not accept the possibility of him dying in such a way that leaves no body behind. He has demanded especially to Jake that he has to retrieve some part of him to return to Sorata, no matter what.
