"Frenemies" is the best word to describe their relationship. Both of them deeply appreciate the fact that the other party still grieves over Pink's death and dislikes Homeword's treatment of her passing. If it wasn't for the higher-ups, Melon would still proudly wear their pink uniform just like Albi.

They also have many mutual friends they spend time with and serve as their emotion support.

Pacifistic Albi constantly judges and even lashes out on Melon any time one of Tourmaline's inhumane experiments is brought up. Melon defends herself in the name of status, science and the chance of discovering better ways of helping future facility patients. As much as Albi hates it, she acknowledges that her hypocritical rival does in fact contribute to many essential discoveries, crucial to a lot of gems. This double edge conflict remains unchanged even after many years.

Citrine and Watermelon knew one another since the war on Earth, making them the longest lasting friendship in the whole main six group.

They reunited shortly after the war near Homeworld's abandoned underground complex and stayed together with other semi-corrupted quartzes in hiding. Once the post-war politics calmed down, they ran into another problem: Citrine's work deployment. It was later find out that post-corrupted Citri no longer meets the requirements needed for her variety, classifying her as undesirable worth harvesting.

Of course, after all these years protecting one another, Melon would never allow such thing, which forced them to seek any legally questionable loopholes in Homeworld's system that could potentially save her. At last, one was found, leading to Watermelon becoming Citri's new legal owner.

Their relationship stands on a solid foundation of knowing each other's gem variety very well even before they actually met. Their passion for combat and sense of having a loyal ally strengthens their bond, despite how little they admit it in public. In fact, Melon secretly looks up to Citry, wishing to be just as good in a close combat as her.

While Melon treats Citri as one of their own, Citri still sees herself as the socially inferior and on rare occasions still acts too formal around them. Thankfully, she has learned to ignore this social habit over the years.

The only serious disagreement between these two is what each of them views as defective. While Melon sees everything important to them as correct, Citri usually thinks it's profoundly wrong (especially corruption).

For a long time these two barely knew each other. It was after the foundation of their resource center they started talking, all thanks to the fact that Melon sought a tiny bit of fun Homeworld responsibilities suddenly took away from them. Heliodor, uninterested in following rules as well, quickly clicked with Melon and created a chaotic duo that distracts itself with shopping, games, silly pranks, jokes, space flights, combat training or secret tracking of offcolors. Besides the last activity, they often invite Citri or Albi too.

Despite how much fun and time they share together, they avoid talking about any sensitive or very personal topics. While Melon fears sharing their insecurities would ruin the cheerful nature of their relationship, Heli has secrets that someone so reckless and dangerous as Elbaite should never know.

When lawful and chaotic extremists clash, it usually doesn't go well. Despite this, Star and Elbaite achieve great teamwork and tolerance. They're not afraid to admit that both feel very impressed by the other's accomplishments and skills. Furthermore, they also share great acting/masking talent and understanding of Homeworld's higher-ups. They might not spend their free workdays together, but they surely can unite in times of need.

The biggest downside of this relationship is obviously their very different moral code.

During early post-war era 2, the political situation on Homeworld was truly chaotic. Melanite and her newly assembled troops were given the mission to manage, control, capture or even eradicate offcolors created by the war. All things were going well if it wasn't for furious Elbaite who found the idea of them, a war veteran, being suddenly downgraded to a status of just a defect ridiculous. Ever since they escaped the capture, Tourmaline was determined to find and rebel against any gem behind this injustice.

Despite being motivated by purely selfish desires, many had joined Melon's side, which quickly marketed Tourmaline as Melanite's biggest bounty. At first, she was baffled by their foolishness, but as time flew by, she realized how tricky of an opponent Tourmaline was. They both had some level of respect for the other, even though their teams were fighting.

Right at the peak of this rivalry, Melon not only managed to recruit traitors among Garnets troops, but also kidnap her in the moment of weakness and trade Melanite for ransom. This incident, of course, resulted in Melanite getting fired from her position as well as losing an unhealthy level of dignity. The amount of unfair games Melon had to use to achieve this dirty victory is too much for her lawful personality, thus dramatically proclaiming them as her eternal nemesis..

Now that politics calmed down again, Elbaite absolutely abuses their newly gained hierarchy position any time they see Melanite in the public. They enjoy making her life as miserable as possible and can't get enough of the fact someone so noble rages like a pitiful ruby in their presence. If that wasn't enough, it is thanks to her and Hessonite that Melon has zero respect for garnets in general.

Unlike Elbaite, who finds this whole modern situation amusing, Melanite's grudge is nothing but serious. She considers them to be a criminal who escaped justice by abusing the corrupted loopholes in their empire's system. Because of this, she also automatically dislikes anyone who belongs to Melon's social circle.

Despite never meeting face to face, they're both quite aware of the other's existence, wondering what would happen in their hypothetical encounter.

Elbaite was a known troublemaker in Onyx's mission with Garnet. Onyx was usually the one planning against Melon's sabotages, shortage of supplies and spreading rebellion to more gems. Garnet then polished these ideas and executed them in front of the public eye. Anytime Melanite came with the results, there wasn't a day she didn't complain about Tourmaline in some way, giving them a bad image in Onyx's eye. Struggling to fight them was definitely annoying.

The final straw, however, was witnessing Garnet's kidnapping. It was that moment Onyx, for the first time in their life, felt an indescribable level of rage and worry that later transformed into a deep-rooted hatred.

Onyx is quite fascinated by their strong opinions against Tourmaline, especially since Moissanite always talked down on them as incapable to feel such emotions.

Melon is hardly bothered by them. It's difficult to care about someone you barely know, especially since you have so many other rivals (garnets) to deal with.

Corrupted soldier with a deep hatred for nobles and a poetically corrupt politician sound like a bizarre combination. The fortune created them as enemies, yet their hypocrisy turned them into allies.

Ever since Melon's resistance became vocal, Uvarovite was distantly keeping her eyes on its development. Once the opportunity presented itself, she was the first and only noble willing to claim everything surrounding Melon's accomplishments.

Even today, Uvarovite is the main chief executive officer of Tourmaline's research facility. If it wasn't for her, Melon would have never gained such a high administration position. In fact, Melon, Citri and other close allies of theirs would be harvested, if Uvarovite didn't put a political shield over them. The reason why she even did so is something her nor Melon discuss publicly... It likely wasn't pretty...

What makes them truly click is how dramatically similar they are. They both despise garnets, act hypocritically, enjoy dark humor, ignore moral rules, feel betrayed by the past, forgot who they once were and faced the eyes of death. Even their physical appearances are alike!

Despite Melon's grudge against nobles putting a negative light on Uvarovite, it's safe to say she's the garnet they tolerate the most. They don't like admitting it out loud, but their behavior speaks for itself. Melon doesn't sugarcoat their words around Uvarovite and is instead honest with everything, including criticism. They enjoy playing cards together as well as collaborating with Uvarovite's gem mutant scientists.

Uvarovite despises fake faces and those who hate her without a meaningful reason. The fact an elbaite, a gem designed to deceive others, is truthful in her presence compliments her. She interprets it as a sign of undying loyalty, a thing Uvarovite lost in many gems after her injury. She also feels her cracks and corruption aren't too different from each other, creating a sense of closeness towards any semi-corrupt individual.

Before the civil war began, many Pink and Blue Diamond's gems gathered on Earth to maintain peace. Watermelon and six other elbaites were called as secret backup forces, ready to defend Homeworld diplomats against the forming Crystal Gems.

For all the tourmalines, it was the first time working with others of their kind. As years went by, their unique personalities sparked friendships, mutual understandings, rivalries, eternal despise, and perhaps even more. Unfortunately, by the end of the war, only two tourmalines returned to Homeworld alive.

Even though Melon didn't spend much time with them individually, the collective memories of their elbaite squad are something to be remembered. In fact, Melon recalls other elbaites and their behavior better than Melon's own pre-war self. From their interests and ways of communication to their distinctive personality traits, everything is as clear as if those memories belong to Melon since the dawn of their existence. This combined with corruption likely are the biggest factors why Watermelon underwent a drastic personality shift with the new era 2.

Besides memories, however, it's good to mention Watermelon also possess a necklace made of their comrades' shards. As questionable as its subconscious influence on Melon is, they consider it a prized souvenir from the elbaite assassin~
