Trivia

  • Lawful impure alignment doesn't represent that Garnet is a bad or evil person. It shows the fact she must follow authorities and commands that aren't viewed as "good" by the main story protagonists.
  • My old friend called her "Corpse the dog"... Apparently it's a reference to a singer or something? Well, I suppose she indeed looks quite edgy and has hair like a poodle...
  • Her gemstone placement represents the antonym to one of the three wise monkeys- "speak evil"

*humble laughter* Fighting? Ou well, I think that it's one of these necessities everyone should know, regardless of status or strength. As long as you at least try to fight back, you will earn my respect.

Opinion towards

The diamonds: "Your curious mind wishes to know how they treat gems that aren't as inferior? Well then, that's a complex subject. Each one takes a different approach, but I'll simplify it for you. Blue is soft, too soft to lead. But apparently she treats her high class well. Yellow is the most active and likes to be in contact with her subjects. However, favoritism is a huge issue of hers. And White- well... Her highness is very busy. She only speaks to three most talented garnets of our court."

Crystal gems: "I can't stress enough how difficult it is to find any records of them. It's irritating. If they want to keep the lower ranks uninformed, sure, it's probably a good thing. But why nobles too??"

The war: "As much as I complain, I'm still very lucky. Such a scandal like this will be haunting that hessonite for the rest of her life."

Cross-gem fusions: "I suppose with the amount of diverse military troops, they must exist somewhere."

Corruption: "I see what you're doing... I refuse to elaborate."

Garnets: "The difference between era 1 and era 2 garnets is severe. For instance, while my appearance could fool others into believing I'm like any other, I can tell there's something missing internally. I cannot get my grasp on what exactly, but the comments Pyry occasionally makes about my acting strike a wire within me."

Oldest memory: "Stalagmites, that one is embarrassing. Hours after emerging, my escort took me to White Palace. They'd arranged a meeting with the prime counselor, 1H3. And I guess I was a bit too overwhelmed, maybe tired too? (I don't know, it's hard to recall.) The point is, I had poofed some way or another because what I remember well is reforming at 1H3's chamber. And my my, that horrified, melancholic face of hers is carved into my memory. I couldn't have made a worse first impression."

Blue's court: "Without its garnets, it would fell apart... But I must humbly praise their great theatres!"

Yellow's court: "It is in my personal opinion the most diverse of the courts. Yes, the fact that it's heavily focused on military and industry might fool a simple observer into thinking that it's in fact immensely straight forward. But I'm not referring to the things they control, but rather who controls it. From the greatest authorities I've ever met to straight up a criminals to which I question why weren't they punished by Yellow yet!"

White's court: "Only the best behaved, strict, elegant or flawless have the right to belong. But it's-... Indeed a challenging environment for any newcomers. Being explicitly made of the oldest of garnets, anyone younger than five thousand years will be profoundly ignored. Don't ask how I know this..."

Prime council: "The embodiments of White Diamond herself. They're the living aspirations of everything nobles wish to achieve. I, personally, hold nothing but respect for our council. Let the stars bless them."

Name: "While I'm not trying to appear quirky, I do prefer when gems call me Garnet instead of Melanite. Melanite just doesn't have the right ring to it. If anything, it reminds of the counselor of judgement. I know, I know, it's super confusing, especially around other nobles. Thus, I don't force gems to use it."

Resistant to

  • Political shield: Being very high in gem hierarchy let's her potentially get away with many (but not all) crimes.

Fears & weak points

  • Easy to manipulate: Her young inexperienced mind that craves for greater accomplishments and fame makes Melanite an easy target for any questionable contractors.
  • Ego: A garnet without an ego is like a gem without its gemstone. If you know just the right thing to do, it's easy to take advantage of it.

Hobbies

  • Collecting weapons: Old traditional weaponry are in limited stock. Owning such artefacts is something to be proud of.
  • Visiting theatre and spa: Great places for relaxation.

Goals

  • Serve the empire: As a good Homeworld gem, this task is the fundamental piece of her existence.
  • Show Onyx the outside world: A great work partner like Onyx deserves to see more than just an empty walls of their chamber.

Early Post-war: Era 2

After millennia of stagnation, the White court officially welcomed a new garnet to their ranks, Melanite. It was a rare occurrence, since White's aristocrats are notoriously known for being born few and far between. Before Melanite, the youngest member was already 5500 years old.

Even though it was an event worth celebrating, the prime court counselors as well as Melanite herself arranged an agreement she won't be joining politics right away. Instead, Garnet studied the basics of first era's history, how other aristocrats did their job and combat. Even though Melanite's body was weakened by era 2 defectiveness, she still managed to unleash her own weapon along with other abilities. After 80 years, Melanite decided it was about time to introduce other courts to her existence, marking the beginning of her aristocratic life.

As an early era 2 gem, she quickly gained a great reputation with both sides of Homeworld's political spectrum. The younger, more technologically oriented garnets, happily granted her access to their weaponry, while the older ones still willingly accepted her into their ancient traditions. Being the newest addition under White Diamond also made her a desired ally for the vast majority of aristocrats that lacked any other inside into her reserved court. Overall, Melanite presented herself very confidently in public, thinking she'll be popular like this with everyone.

But as years went by, she learned the harsh truth about her fellow white nobles. Until she reaches 5000 years of age, she'll be nothing but a lesser garnet in her own court, regardless of how famous she's with everyone else. No matter how many meetings Garnet attended, they never gave her a colony or space outpost to run, no special missions, prism, nor political power. More often than not, her voice was entirely ignored, as if she was a nonexistent thing. Because of this, she spent even more time surrounded by Yellow's and Blue's aristocrats, only dreaming of the day she'll be finally taken seriously.

Post-promotion

To every white garnet's surprise, Melanite was provided the opportunity to work on an upcoming project for a remote White's facility. Full of excitement and honor, she accepted the job without a question and obeyed every given rule. Although the place itself could be described as weird at best, the desire to be useful for her court made her ignorant to any potential red flags. By working for this underground complex, Garnet was introduced to her new colleague, Onyx. They were the first white gem Melanite ever get along with, encouraging her to stay in her new job as well as spent a decent amount of time casually socializing with them. Even though Onyx isn't allowed to ever leave the facility, Garnet is till this very day determined to include them into her life outside of work. She often livestreams Onyx the places she visits across the empire, brings gifts and personally sees them on a regular basis.
