  • Roy is the default male Clavat from the game.

Story

Roy is quiet and shy, and his attitude is mostly ruled by his will to look like a respectful person. He doesn’t often speak his mind unless he’s asked to. He’s got a lot of kindness and empathy, and worries about being useful.

He likes music and plays the flute. He fights with a sword and shield, and wants to get better at magic in early story because of having a Cure Ring, given by his mother.

Background

Roy was born in Tipa, as the first son of a farmer family. He has a younger sister, Paulie, and also some grandparents, uncles/aunts and cousins around.

In Tipa, his family grows a lot of food in their fields. Roy learns to help them pretty young. He also grows up surrounded with Clavats’ values, namely: respect, honesty, hard work and pacifism. His parents are sometimes strict but they love him and are proud of him overall, because does good work and never refuses to lend a hand, and because he’s kind to others. Even to his other family members and other villagers, he grows to be seen as an exemplary kid.

When he’s a teen, his parents start to suggest the idea of him becoming a caravanner. They say Rou would probably be great at it and that bringing myrrh would help the village. Roy gets some sword lessons and even though he’s not too good at first, he keeps practicing with his dad. Roy actually doesn’t know what to think about becoming a caravanner; he’s not especially thrilled at the idea, but he thinks it’s a common thing for a boy his age anyway. And because being a caravanner is the ultimate way to be useful, he doesn’t think too much about it.

But as time goes by and reality hits, Roy realizes that the idea of leaving the village for a long time, into the unknown, surrounded by miasma and fighting monsters, is actually frightening. He realizes he wasn’t into it to begin with, but his family is now expecting him to go and he can’t let them down and not live up to their expectations.

Despite being praised by most of his family, Roy has self-esteem issues, which actually kinda stems from the very same fact. He’s not aware of it at first, but expectations combined with the values he grew up with, made his natural shyness worse. He’s been doing what everyone else wanted for so long that it’s hard for him to disagree or speak what he really wants. He comes to the point of blaming himself when he feels he doesn’t fill some expectations.

Needless to say, when the journey starts, Roy is convinced he has to be that ideal and devoted caravanner that some people around expect him to be. He hopes to find some comfort by going with Délia, who has been his friend for years, and who’s leaving for the first time too.

Relationships

Délia Close friend

Délia is Roy's childhood and best friend. Roy feels comfortable with her, as she seems to always be open and kind. They're already pretty intimate when their journey starts, and Délia is the first person to know that Roy didn't truly want to become a caravanner. Over the course of their adventures, they build even more trust in each other, and they're good at telling what the other thinks or feels.

Linitaa Friend

Roy is first intimidated by Linitaa because she looks strong and confident, but also somewhat cold. After she reaches out to him a few times though, he can see that she's kind and not judgemental as he imagined. He wants to know her more and actually enjoys spending time with her. Linitaa makes him feel safe, and eventually Roy wants to be there for her too. She becomes one of his most important persons.

Ramsey Friend

Roy holds Ramsey in good esteem because of his personality and kindness, and feels glad that Délia has a brother like him to look after her. It takes some time for Roy to really open up about sensitive topics with Ramsey though, as he wants to put on a brave front. Once he feels more comfortable, he knows he can count on him, and at times he can even be a support for Ramsey too.

Lylia Friend

At the start of his journey, Lylia is a comforting presence in Roy's eyes. Lylia is open to chat, to give advice and have some good laugh. Her care for Délia, Linitaa and him shows. He thus feels like he can rely on her. Over time, Roy's view of Lylia as a senior and experienced caravanner slowly turns into a simple and good friendship.

Weylin Friend/mentor

Roy is first intimidated by Weylin because of her captain role and her formal attitude, although he has a lot of respect for her for the same reason. He starts feeling closer to her when they work on magic practice. Later in the journey, he feels comfortable enough to reach out to her for advice or comfort. Roy feels glad to have Weylin as caravan captain and thinks she brings a lot to him.

Luu Kah Friend

At the start of the journey, Roy doesn't feel very comfortable with Luu Kah because he looks laidback and confident, and is always joking. As such, Roy doesn't understand what Luu Kah actually thinks and fears he could have bad judgments about him. Later, when Luu Kah has some serious talks with him, Roy understands him better despite his attitude, and feels like he was actually envious of Luu Kah's confidence.
