f there is any wizard who is hardworking, it is Kimberly. Rising to the top purely through relentless studying, as one of the junior divison's most skilled wizards, Kimberly prides herself in her abilities and spends her time studying the art of magic. She might not be the easiest to approach, but once you get to know her, she is a wonderful friend and ally.

Of course, there is nothing that grinds her gears more than a wizard named Kyle Flametorch. Once childhood friends, now separated, she has a burning tension with Kyle that she does not understand much herself. She would have been content keeping it that way, that is, until it came to the time where she came to age to learn in the Academy. The problem of the Puppet Master stealing the crystals, and being the top of their classes, Kimberly and Kyle were paired together for their role in the mission. How will Kimberly adjust or fight back against this change?

Trivia

Origin: Kimberly was originally developed as an adaptation of my Prodigy Game RPG sona. Her original story and personality is widely different than her current iteration, and at some point she had a scar on her hand.

Theme song: The Crane Wives - Icarus

  • Her main elemental domain is Storm.
  • She prefers writing with ink over graphite.
  • She only drinks tea and stays away from all other forms of caffeine.

I. Personality

nabel.png

imberly is incredibly passionate and determined about her goals to become a powerful wizard. She pushes herself out of her comfort zone, never shying away from new methods to improve and hone her craft, studying the behavior of previous successful wizards and following their steps. She persists on by herself and spends long sessions studying spellbooks and taking lessons from her teachers.

However, outside of magic, Kimberly's flaws are revealed with her stubborness and unwillingless to take help when she truly needs it. She views help as patronizing, claiming she does not need pity assistance, which is tied closely to her childhood. Once she is set that her idea is the right way to progress, she shuts out any other suggestions until proven entirely incorrect. While her focus and determination play into her strengths, they lend equal value to her weak points, to which she may come off as unrelenting and headstrong once she is set on a specific goal.

II. History

nabel.png

s a child, Kimberly lived in the human realm with her parents and sister, Christine. Unbeknownst to her, their parents were descendants of wizards who had been hiding in the human world for generations, attempting to blend in to the human world.

Life had been peaceful up until Kimberly was eight years old, when a group of teenagers stumbled upon magical traces where their family lived. Awed, they reported back to the town leader, who inspected the traces closer and found that somebody had been using magic to help their garden grow. Terrified by the implications that a magic user was in the town, the leaders scouted out Kimberly's family, and Kimberly was barely given any time to escape with her sister through a portal their parents formed before never returning again.

New life on the islands

After that, Kimberly and her sister were thrown into one of the largest wizard settlements -- Prodigy Islands. From then on, the residents of Starwell Village took care of the displaced children. Adjusting to a life with the upper-class took a bit of time for Kimberly, but she eventually became friends with Kyle, the son of a magical official in the Council. She and Kyle became inseperable, spending all their time together in and out of school.

Kimberly and Kyle's bond was unbreakable, until one day Kyle's father had to take a short trip to the outer islands for a Council task. Kyle and his brother joined the trip, and Kimberly waited for her friend to return. However, when Kyle came back home, his demeanor shifted entirely -- he refused to talk about the trip and pushed Kimberly away when she tried to ask, leading to a rift splitting the two apart. Kimberly, fed up with Kyle's secrecy and reclusiveness, decided then and there she would be just like him and do everything on her own. When Kyle finally began to talk again, it was already too late: their bond had been broken, and the two would never see each other the same again. Kimberly spent this time training to become a powerful wizard to rise to the top once she came of age so that nobody could ever hurt her and her sister in the future, but also to distract herself from the loss of a close friend.

Current story

Now with the two as sixteen year olds and at the top of their class, it is time they came of age to learn at the Academy in order to truly take their magic to a higher level. The conflict arises when the Puppet Master steals five crystals activating the bridge to the Academy, locking the students out. To make matters worse, the crystals promptly shatter, scattering the shards across the islands. Repairing the bridge has now become a race against time, the students needing to work together to collect the shards before the Puppet Master finds them again.

Kimberly and Kyle are unfortunately paired with each other as the top students in the class to take on the more difficult challenges. Thus, this sets off a sequence of arguments, petty fights, and slow reconciliation as the two embark on the journey to save the Academy together.

III. Combat + Abilities

Kimberly fights with her smarts and magic, ending battles quickly using her bursts of powerful attacks. Unfortunately, that does not fare too well in long battles. She relies heavily on overpowering and overwhelming her opponents with sheer power, though as a result, her defense is weaker than normal. Kimberly's attacks are a bit more rigid, though her excellent strategizing and recognition of move patterns more than makes up for it.
Falling Star Smash

Summons the power of stars to strike a single enemy; Gain 1 MP.

One of the simplest attacks a wizard can cast, making it useful for quickly dealing with enemies or charging MP.

Ion Cannon

Summons a single bolt of lightning to shock an enemy; 1 MP

A basic attack for the Storm domain. This attack is effective on Water domains and weak against Ice domains.

Super Nova

Forms a shining ball of light to blind enemies on the field; 2 MP

Used as an effective AOE stunning/debuff effect on enemies. It is useful as an accompaniment spell to other attacks.

Meteor Shower

Consecutive hits of stars on the enemy field; 5 MP

Powerful AOE damage to strike majority of the enemies in battle. This is Kimberly's go-to battle finisher and a great spell to show off.

Thunderstorm

Summons the power of the sky to strike enemies with lightning and add consecutive lightning damage; 3 MP

This spell is a part of the Storm domain and used by Kimberly if she wants to conserve MP while also casting a large attack. Ice domains are resistant against the original hit, but the consecutive damage has the same effect as other enemies.

Static Glow

Summon small sparks of electricity on palm to generate light or a small voltage; 0 MP

A skill learned by Storm domains as an low-energy alternative to light spells. The only other domain that has a skill similar to this is the Fire domain.

IV. Relationships

Christine TidecasterSister

placeholder-pfp.png

Christine is a big goof, but that doesn’t stop Kimberly from loving her! They only have each other to depend on, after all. The sisters have a mutual trust, confiding in each other whenever issues arise. However, with Kimberly out retrieving the shards, Christine can't help but to be a little worried...

Kyle FlametorchRivals/Ex-friends

unknown.png

What once began as good childhood friends turned into a prickly relationship. In their early days, Kimberly and Kyle used to be best friends in the same neighborhood and the same classes. However, a change occurred one day when Kyle stopped going to school for a few days and came back a different person. His new arrogant and rude attitude caused Kimberly to drift away from him, eventually turning into rivalling classmates once they reached higher grades. Will their relationship always remain on a rocky path?

Lori IceshadowFriends

placeholder-pfp.png

These two became friends in middle school when they were put into the same Magic History class. Despite their clashing powers, the two bonded very well and stuck with each other through thick and thin. Kimberly and Lori both share a distaste towards Kyle, so Lori always makes sure to make rude jokes and remarks about Kyle to make Kimberly laugh.

Ciandra Firnbringer???

image.png

Meeting Ciandra completely deconstructs Kimberly's ambitions to become the strongest wizard. In front of her, she sees a powerful being consumed by the allure of Shadows and can't help but to reconsider how she views the magical world. Kimberly finds Ciandra's combination of Astral, Ice, and Shadow powers to be terrifying, and wonder if she might end up the same way if she becomes corrupted by the same type of power.

Design Notes

Height
5'5/165 cm
Weight
130 lbs/59 kg
Build
Average build, full limbs
Posture
Upright
Default Expression
RBF

Kimberly holds herself very formally to signify the others that she is quite serious about her studies. That combined with her constant stoic face makes her appear much more intimidating than she actually is. She does not have much muscle but does have some tone from the physical activity of spellcasting.
  • Her old design included much shorter robes.
  • The scarf offers both physical and magical resistance.
