Darkness is within everyone… it’s just our job to fight it.
Eyes concentrated with traces of pomegranate juice, Black Licorice and his sister Pomegranate became shunned by their village tribe. Dark Enchantress ended up taking the two kids in to "take care" of them ((((manipulate them and turn them into her minions)))) Licorice, as a naive child, blindly trusted Dark Enchantress as well as followed whatever Pomegranate believeed.
The first time the giant war started, Licorice was appointed leader of the army by Dark Enchantress. Before the true battle even began, Black Licorice already lost the only friend he had to Fire Spirit’s magic. Even after Dark Enchantress provided Jelly Walker forces, the Dark side ended up losing to the Legendaries' might. While Pomegranate escaped punishment with Dark Enchantress' help, Licorice had one of his eyes shot out by Moonlight’s power and was banished to a realm where he would be trapped and forced to live as a human.
With his trust for Dark Enchantress shattered, he had a hard time bonding with others -- except for a human girl who helps him recover from his injuries when he first arrived. She helped him learn more about the new world he's in as he learned to trust her. However, after he revealed to her that he was originally from Earthbread, she suddenly disappeared without a trace -- leaving him entirely alone once again.
During The Time I Was Human, Black Licorice has to face the Darkness which he thought had left his life years prior. He assists the Cookies who are also trapped in the human world, protecting them from Jelly Walkers and Darkness. Eventually, he faces Pomegranate and Licorice in a climactic battle, helping everybody beat the Dark Side into retreating. While the Legendaries repaired Earthbread, Black Licorice found temporary homes in the human world for displaced Cookies while keeping a watch on Licorice's actions.
After the events of The Time I Was Human, Black Licorice is exposed to the more modern Cookies and began to change his opinions on the Cookie world which he resented so much. He still opts to stay in the human world to keep a watch over his home (and also Licorice, who is now terrified of returning to Earthbread). However, his battle and involvement with the Dark side was still far from over. (TTIWH sequel in progress)

Trivia:
- Black Licorice was 16 at oldest when he fought in the Dark War and transported to the human world. He is an adult during the time of TTIWH.
- He does not enjoy meat very much but will eat it if it's convenient.
- He uses a lot more human idioms over Cookie ones. He'll drop a "jesus christ" during a conversation and not elaborate.

Strawberry Tiramisu Cookie

Unlike the rest of the cookies, Tiramisu showed warmth to Black Licorice, keeping in contact with him even after her return to the Cookie World. Black Licorice developed strong feelings for her but rarely ever shows it.
Pomegranate Cookie

After Pomegranate’s betrayal in the great Legendary War, Black Licorice held a burning resentment for his sister. He doesn't understand how she keeps trusting Dark Enchantress and her plan for Darkness after what happened to him. (icon by gloomyneptunian)

With Bittermelon having fought under Black Licorice’s command in the past, the two have a disturbing history. Bittermelon knows the true mastermind and her intentions, but Black Licorice’s actions still have no excuse. However, after realizing their similarities and common goal (taking down Darkness), the two begin to perhaps form a friendship…?
Jawbreaker Cookie

Once Jawbreaker learned that Black Licorice was the one who commanded Bittermelon's army, he immediately instigated a fight with the enemy. Black Licorice did not resist, but still holds an uneasy tension towards Jawbreaker whenever he is near. (character by xylemblu)
Fire Spirit Cookie

During the great encounter with the Legendaries, Fire Spirit was the first that Black Licorice and his army encountered. Fire Spirit wiped out the small division, causing Black Licorice's only friend to crumble, and he is still bitter over that fact. (icon by gloomyneptunian)

After the events of TTIWH, Licorice crashed in Black Licorice's house to escape returning to Earthbread and facing Dark Enchantress. Black Licorice doesn't dislike Licorice, but would rather Licorce do something more than lounge around all day and play Minecraft.

During TTIWH, Black Licorice trusted Strawberry Tiramisu, Gingerbrave, and Strawberry the most. Gingerbrave managed to gain more affinity from Black Licorice after returning to deliver a cake and later, help "babysit" Licorice while he's gone.

“I just wish she did not leave so soon...”
Verity was the first to help Black Licorice when he was stranded in the human world. Through her guidance, he learned about human life and customs and stayed with her for years. Through time, Black Licorice eventually began to see her as an older sister. That's why it was all the more devastating when she disappeared one day, only leaving a single note behind.
Dark Enchantress Cookie

“Your Darkness won't last forever. I will make sure you fall.”
Black Licorice will never forgive Dark Enchantress's manipulation when he was younger. Even though he wanted nothing to do with her anymore, the events of TTIWH spurred him into properly taking action against her and destroying Darkness at last.

When Black Licorice returns to Earthbread during WTRLL, Walnut tags along his investigation of Dark Enchantress. She is very interested in the fact that he used to live with humans! Black Licorice is impressed at her deductive prowess, but he's a little concerned at her insistence to follow along.
