ere comes the living stereotype of a Fire user! ...or, something. Kyle is seen as "you either love him or hate him," where he has many friends but equally as many enemies. This status doesn't come purely from feisty personality alone -- Kyle, being the son of a magic Councillor, is extremely skilled with his magic and resides at the top of his class with his talent in the arcane.

Everything seems to be going fine for Kyle; he has the respect of enough peers and countless spells at his disposal, though the truth is that there is one thing off in his life: his tension with his ex-childhood friend Kimberly. One instance of brashness from Kyle's part as a child tore a rift between him and Kimberly, leaving her unwilling to ever reason with him again. Of course there isn't much Kyle can do to combat her stubbornness, so he resorts to teasing her with a rival dynamic instead to keep some sort of interaction with her. He would have been fine with that, until it came to the time where he came to age to learn in the Academy. The problem of the Puppet Master stealing the crystals, and being the top of their classes, Kimberly and Kyle were paired together for their role in the mission. Is this Kyle's chance to finally repair the fracture?

Trivia

Origin: Kyle's first instances of showing up in my works were times where he was exclusively written as Kimberly's rival. He was used to compare Kimberly to, often being the butt of the joke.

Theme song: The Happy Fits - Dirty Imbicile

  • His main elemental domain is Fire.
  • He uses his fists in battle a lot for a magician.
  • His favorite genre of music is actually classical.
  • He, like other Fire users, can set his hair on fire.

I. Personality

nabel.png

yle is bold in every aspect possible -- relationships, battle, learning, and more. He is confident in his abilities and will often flaunt what he can do, and most of the time, he is the most powerful wizard in the room. With his natural talent to manipulate fire, Kyle is always experimenting and searching for new ways to utilize his power and create new movesets. Kyle dislikes being bested in battle, and when he is, he always learns from the one who battled him to become stronger and beat them in a rematch. Even though Kyle seems hotheaded, he manages to stay surprisingly calm in dire situations, and it's rare to see him truly enraged.

Though not as stubborn as Kimberly, Kyle tends to stick close to what he thinks is the ideal solution. This leads him to come off as arrogant and egotistical, when most of the time he just wishes to be efficient. In a similar vein, he has a habit of undercutting those he views as "weaker" than him, or people he assumes he can't find anything to learn from. Kyle's brazen outward personality provides him a sense of leadership and authority, but he also uses the loud exterior as a way to mask any troubles he may have. Due to this, it is hard to tell when he is showing his true emotions.

II. History

nabel.png

n his childhood, Kyle was raised in a high-ranking family of wizards on Prodigy Island. His father, being a part of the Council, was frequently away, but he brought back endless amounts of knowledge and magical artifacts to start training Kyle early. Kyle looked up to his brother, who was a Storm wizard, and wished to become just as powerful one day.

Kyle was the first one to find Kimberly and her sister on the islands and took the two back to his family for care. With the residents Starwell Village and especially Kyle's family taking care of the two, Kyle became friends with Kimberly very quickly. The two were inseperable, spending all their time together in and out of school.

The sudden loss

One day, Kyle father took him and his brother on a trip to outer islands with the wish that Kyle could learn a bit more about magical variety before he chose his domain. The trip was supposed to be an education expedition, until the first sign of Shadow magic began to trickle into wizard society. A group of Ice monsters became afflicted with a Shadow spell and turned hostile, attacking the brothers while offguard. Kyle was saved in time by his brother, but his brother was not lucky enough to return from battle.

Shaken, this encounter taught Kyle that Prodigy Islands were not safe like he thought they were, to which he returned home with a changed worldview and a burning determination to become stronger. He refused to talk about the trip to anybody and pushed Kimberly away when she tried to ask, leading to a rift splitting the two apart. After Kyle selected Fire as his domain and finally began to open up again, it was already too late: his bond with Kimberly had been broken, and the two would never see each other the same again.

Current story

Now with the two as sixteen year olds and at the top of their class, it is time they came of age to learn at the Academy in order to truly take their magic to a higher level. The conflict arises when the Puppet Master steals five crystals activating the bridge to the Academy, locking the students out. To make matters worse, the crystals promptly shatter, scattering the shards across the islands. Repairing the bridge has now become a race against time, the students needing to work together to collect the shards before the Puppet Master finds them again.

Kimberly and Kyle are unfortunately paired with each other as the top students in the class to take on the more difficult challenges. Thus, this sets off a sequence of arguments, petty fights, and slow reconciliation as the two embark on the journey to save the Academy together.

III. Combat + Abilities

Kyle likes to manipulate and taunt his opponents, wearing them down before going in for the final attack. Being so used to his natural talent, Kyle is excellent at spontaneous planning, coming up with strategies that fluctuate throughout battle. Though Kyle is haughty with his abilities, he recognizes when he is in danger and knows to retreat.
Falling Star Smash

Summons the power of stars to strike a single enemy; Gain 1 MP.

One of the simplest attacks a wizard can cast, making it useful for quickly dealing with enemies or charging MP.

Volcannon

Summons a fire geyser, burning the opponent; 1 MP

A basic attack for the Fire domain. This attack is effective on Ice and Plant domains and weak against Water domains.

Super Nova

Forms a shining ball of light to blind enemies on the field; 2 MP

Used as an effective AOE stunning/debuff effect on enemies. It is useful as an accompaniment spell to other attacks.

Ravaging Inferno

Sets fire to the battle field, damaging all opponents and inflicting consecutive damage on certain areas; 3 MP

Powerful AOE damage to strike majority of the enemies in battle. Kyle often uses this if he wants to corner enemies.

Smoking Flare

Creates a smoke screen, obscuring the opponents’ visions and lowering their defense; 3 MP

Unlike Super Nova, this status effect lasts for multiple turns rather than just one. The smokescreen is also especially effective for weakening Ice and Plant spells.

Small Flame

Summon a small flame on the user's palm to create light or heat; 0 MP

A skill learned by Fire domains as an low-energy alternative to light spells. The only other domain that has a skill similar to this is the Storm domain.

IV. Relationships

Kimberly DreamcasterRivals/Ex-friends

unknown.png

What once began as good childhood friends turned into a prickly relationship. In their early days, Kimberly and Kyle used to be best friends in the same neighborhood and the same classes. However, a change occurred one day when Kyle stopped going to school for a few days and came back a different person. His new arrogant and rude attitude caused Kimberly to drift away from him, eventually turning into rivalling classmates once they reached higher grades. Will their relationship always remain on a rocky path?

The Puppet MasterEnemies

image.pngg

Upon first meeting the Puppet master during the crystal-stealing, Kyle was convinced that the Puppet Master was behind the monster attack that killed his brother. Thus, he was the first to volunteer to track the Puppet Master's trail, which he pursued relentlessly with Kimberly. Since he spent countless years adjusting to his brother's disappearance, Kyle's anger towards the Puppet Master for using Shadow magic is a slow, smoldering burn of determination rather than blind fury, which provides him a powerful edge in battle.

Mira ShadeRivals

latest.png

Kyle climbed to the top of Mira's tower when he was fourteen. After discovering Mira used Shadow magic, he was bent on defeating her, but after winning he learned that she had no association with any Shadow forces. Kyle is still pissed at Mira for acting so nonchalant about Shadow magic, but he still holds a certain respect for her powers.

Ciandra FirnbringerEnemies

image.png

Near the end of their quest, Kyle discovers that Ciandra was the one who was experimenting with Shadow magic on creatures in the far-off islands, thus being the one responsible for the monster attack that killed Kyle's brother. After Ciandra admits that it was delightful to see the experiment succeed, Kyle becomes completely enraged with them and vows to bring them down.

Design Notes

Height
5'9/175 cm
Weight
173 lbs/78 kg
Build
Relatively muscular
Posture
Relaxed
Default Expression
Smirk

Kyle appears casual and nochalant, often placing his hands in his robe pockets. His constant smug grin may seem concieted to some and humurous to others. Because of Kyle's tendency to add fire to his punches, he has muscle from physical training to gain an edge in battles.
  • The gauntlets were mostly for his younger self to control his powers, but now he wears them as accessories.
  • He doesn't believe in "hair styling."
