every revolution begins with a spark.

Friar knows all too well the power of revolution. Born in Siregal during a time of unrest, Friar learned quickly the powers of words and might and the horrors of those in power abusing them. Although young when the true revolution began, Friar lent their talents with the sword to the cause, training under the strongest fighters of the revolution and fighting for mages' rights and the downfall of the monarchy, who ruled with greed and fury. Eventually, their efforts landed them the notice of the bastard prince- Enn Marren'vik.

Although still only in their twenties, Enn took the young fighter under his wing, introducing them to the rest of his posse, of which Friar quickly became a part. Friar grew and trained and fought for what they believed in. They watched as the world changed, as Enn and a few members of his group killed the final nobles of Siregal and established a new government, led by mages. They followed Enn as he led them to their new target- Ivras, and its restrictive, overhanded Order.

May the Patrons help the Ivratians- they do not know what is coming for them.

Personality

Friar's life has largely been devoted to their family and revenge. Active and alert, they have rarely known relaxation, as their life has not allowed them to. Brilliant in terms of strategy and yet simultaneously dull in diplomacy, Friar prefers the straightforwardness of the battlefield to the eloquence of a courtroom. However, they can be silver-tongued when they wish; they just struggle to hide their true feelings.

Perhaps the most noticeable aspect of Friar is their strength, in a variety of aspects. Not only physically strong, they are also strong of character. They are high-minded and loyal, and devoted to their friends and loved ones, and, of course, the cause. Self-reliant and skillful, they are capable of whatever they need to be- if it relates to their strengths.

However, Friar is one who believes that the ends justify the means. Aggressive and barbaric, they will do whatever it takes to secure the cause's future. Dogmatic and domineering, they do not take kindly to those who disagree with their cause's beliefs or second-guess the will behind Enn's actions. They are also narrow-minded and resentful of the powers that be, and is increasingly vengeful towards those who Friar has perceived has done them and their gang wrong.

History

Friar's story begins in the country of Siregal, in a small farming town. The land was owned by a rich, cruel noble, who worked those beneath him to the bone. Friar saw the effects it took on his family- the stress lines around their mother's eyes, the hints of ribs on their sisters, the thin, watery vegetable broth made from whatever they were given by the lord. Hunger was a constant friend in their young stomach, even as they hauled plows from a young age and developed lean muscle over starving bones.

Perhaps the best thing to happen to Friar came when they were seven, when the lord came to tour the town and make his presence known. Rebellion was common in other lands, and this lord was determined to keep his serfs in line. His favorite method was by taking the young children of the villagers to be trained as his personal guards and soldiers- for who would rebel when it was their own children who would strike them down?

Friar, the only male child born to their parents, was already growing like a weed when the lord came to visit. Born to two large, drafty parents, it was clear that Friar would follow in their hoofsteps. The lord jumped at the chance, and forcibly took Friar into his control. Although it was painful for the family, their mother, in particular, knew that it was for the best. It was one less mouth to feed, and Friar would be well taken care of.

Now fed plenty of food and given exercises that built muscle and skill, Friar grew into a strong, strapping young equine, trained in the sword and educated to read and write. They were elevated again and again, until they were the personal bodyguard of the lord himself. It was a prestigious position, and it led to certain privileges for them and the family they left behind. But rebellion was growing again- it was the final rebellion, the one that would see to the downfall of the Siregalese monarchy. At first, Friar paid the rumblings no mind- and then the famine struck.

The fields did not produce enough to feed all who lived on it, and the lord took more than his fair share. At first, Friar did not notice. Their life was the same as it had been for the past years, and it was only a month or two into the famine that they noticed a lack in quality of their food. When they asked the lord what was going on, they begged to check on their family, offering to give up part of their share in order to feed them.

The lord refused.

It wasn't until the next tour of the villages that Friar learned that their family was already long dead, their share not enough to feed seven mouths. Of course, their soul was bought by the lord, so they could do nothing but seethe, angered by the world and the actions of their master. It was the perfect headspace to inspire rebellion. A strange letter came for Friar, telling them of a date and time to do what they wished. Who this letter came from, perhaps they'll never know, but when that day and time came, they struck.

A dagger in the lord's back, poison in his wife's dinner, and the swift execution of the teenaged heir. A rebellion set amongst the villagers and guards, storming the keep and taking what they wished. Friar led the guards to other holds and keeps, inspiring rebellion and forcing the nobility to bow to the show of strength.

Their deeds apparently caught the eye of the ringmaster- Enn Maren'vik. He approached Friar while they marched towards another keep with their guards, and Friar accepted his invitation to join his gang. Wishing the soldiers and guards well, they left with Enn to fight a bigger battle. Although they did not participate in the final fight, they helped Enn defeat many a noble and restore power to the people and the mages. It wouldn't bring their family back, but it would allow them to make sure that no other child went through what they did.

Now, Friar works for Enn in Ivras, training mages in self-defense and weaponry if they did not have magic suitable for fighting and working as an enforcer for Enn. Their strength and size made them good at the job they were assigned, and when the time comes, Friar will be on the front lines, fighting for the world they want to see- one free of nobles, kings, and mage oppression.
