He harrows. A man taken advantage of his subjectivity finds himself awoken in a sea of obsidian, knowing nothing but the need to survive and to feast on the innocent. He leeches from an unsuspecting host, bestial carnage taking over his sense of awareness. Yet, the delicate sympathy of the unfortunate maiden has made him develop the sense of humanity he had lost. Now, he has found a new meaning to himself. He vows, to protect her until his final breath, living amongst mankind, unbeknownst of his previous life.

Personality
"I don't get mankind's ways. Too generic. That's not what a Void is. But...it's unfortunately intriguing."

Hitoki is a complete opposite of Nodoka. Previously a stressed man pressured by his family’s lineage, he is now more bestial and aggressive compared to his human life, likely as a personification of his previous life's inner demons. He finds himself doing the bare minimum to survive in his new lifestyle. From exposure of Nodoka’s oddly calm acceptance of her supposed death as a host, Hitoki grows a strange sense of empathy, intrigue and will to co-exist with her (to his dismay.) Hitoki becomes even more openly lazy with his new freeloading privilege, becoming a big eater that demolishes Nodoka's wallet. (How is her credit score not awful?) He used to view the human world as his personal form of amusement to watch and explore, and thus can get easily curious and excited over things that we think are simple and common in everyday life. He will deny it vehemently, but he is sort of easy to please when you get through his rough speech. He also unfortunately tended to hurt others physically out of this curiosity to see how humans react, but learns that you probably shouldn't do that others (and also that Nodoka is scary when she's pressed too much.) At the time, he believed humans were foolish and didn't understand why they did the things they did, such as love and cooperate with others instead of fighting for survival. Nodoka questions this, asking, "But we're cooperating right now, aren't we?" He replies, "I am aligned with you out of intrigue for your mortal life. Nothing more, nothing less." How Hitoki would grow to loathe this statement.

He grows to genuinely like partaking in human activities, rather than "watching over and seeing humans be foolish daily," in his words. He still sees human life as unoptimal occasionally, but perhaps a normal and lazy life with Nodoka isn't that bad either.

While protective and vulnerable towards Nodoka, he poses as grumpy, and snarky at almost anyone else (but will learn to love them eventually.) He also boasts a strong superiority complex, but deep down knows that he is not infallible.

As a void who was formally human, some of his emotional patterns are linked to his old desires and feelings, unknowingly to him. While he passes it off as just uncontrollable Void behavior, his anger and little amount of patience, hatred of any new person he meets (until his stubborness wears off,) occasional excessive monologuing about everything around him, and his strong connection with Nodoka and playful clinginess towards her clearly stems from a past influence.

Hitoki's unintentional selfishness is his biggest flaw, but this flaw leads him to a path of becoming more selfless and accepting that even though he is dead, there is still life in his own death.

  • He hates cinnamon due to the texture.
  • He likes disaster and romance films.
  • He likes messy fashion trends he sees on the internet, hence his human form.
  • He is afraid of getting into pools of water and will act dramatic and believe he's dying (but he really is not. No Void can drown. He's just dramatic.) Oceans, rivers, lakes, a tub full of water, he hates it all. Bathhouses get a pass from him since they're at least very warm and cozy.
  • He likes getting rubbed on his shoulders, waist, and forehead.
  • His favorite hobbies consist of: eating plastic bottles, napping [with Nodoka,] getting massaged, karaoke, nail painting, solving sudoku puzzles, journal writing, lock picking, soapmaking (to eat afterwards,) stamp collecting (also to eat afterwards,) napping more, fishing, and cooking (surprisingly enough. Quality does vary.)
  • Based off the Death and the Maiden motif.
  • He had this really weird pranking phase before he became less mentally fucking diseased and yes some of them probably wouldve killed people if nodoka werent there. in fact where the fuck would he get poison from??? does nodoka have poison laying around??? nodoka????
  • He likes all foods except cinnamon, but he especially likes (oh my fucking god) plastic bottles......glass plates....saran wrap...and tiramisu....there is something terribly wrong with this guy
  • Favorite order from WcDonalds is 2 large fries, a singular sausage burrito (for some reason,) apple slices (plastic included,) and 20 WcDoubles.
  • Out of all the Voids, he has the least amount of fragments of his past that he can remember. He is essentially the most hard reset.

Background
"I'm here for you, you know! I'm here to PROTECT you!"

Appearance

In his regular Void form without the influence of Nodoka's braids, he is a blob of mass, pitch black on the outside and a white core in the middle. He has no teeth to bite with, as his kind is parasitical in nature. In his human form, he lazily wears a sweater jacket adorned with buttons over his dress shirt, a plaid skirt as the bottom, finished off with boots and a plaid beret. He shapeshifts into many references; his most common one is of...Neco Arc?!

Backstory

As a Parasite Void, making up 1% of the Hollow Night’s population, he possesses more advanced thought processes and means to make EXS from humans worthwhile and lasting through absorption rather than instant biting compared to a typical Void. For an unlucky (or lucky depending on your optimism level) human, the void will latch onto their head (or other body parts in rarer cases,) sucking their brain power first, and then their EXS as they’ll be too weak to think. This is different from the typical insanity cycle of regular Voids. The Void dies itself if the host theoretically dies outside the Hollow Night, so these parasites usually do not latch on for too long due to this possible threat. Yet, some give in to their beastly nature and can't resist; Hitoki was a case of this, due to Nodoka's great amount of brain power and stored EXS that he sensed. There is the opportunity of co-existing with drastic methods, but the host usually dies before a conclusion can be reached, or the Void is so far gone and uncooperative. Nodoka is one of the two people to accomplish this successfully. This other person’s whereabouts are currently unknown. For now.

Hitoki does not remember his past whatsoever, and only remembers being a human, and suddenly becoming the Void he is now. He knows absolutely nothing, and deals with the tug of war of feeling empty and grateful because of it. When he finds out about his past life, he tries hard to dismiss it and rid every refound memory, because he cannot accept the fact that he died alone and lives as a monster. Deep down, he knows it's important to him, but hates that he can't remember anything despite evidence of his past right in front of him. He gets extremely angry and goes on a tirade when it's mentioned, unless it's from Nodoka's mouth, in which he is uncharacteristically emotional.

With a delicate thumb brushing against his cheek, Nodoka says, "I know it's hard, isn't it? Yet and still, it's so important to you. I know you don't want to throw it away." Hitoki tries to look away and push her hand, but he just wants her words and touch to last forever. He can't bring himself to. "It's okay. You don't have to. You don't have to look back, but you don't have to throw it all away either. Every part of you is just as important to me, too. You're with me now, and I don't want you to be alone with this burden either. I need you here with me. I hope that's good enough for your standards...Uhm." Her words offer him no chance of a rebuttal, not even an opportunity of a little self deprecating jab. For the first time, he smiles genuinely as he receives the closure he needed. He knows that he's not alone as long as they stay by each other's side, and that's all he needs. "You're sweet when you smile. This is your first time genuinely doing it too. How wonderful. ♡" It leaves as soon as Nodoka speaks about it, and he goes back to his typical grumpy spiels. Hitoki ultimately makes the decision to keep all evidence, but as a way to show how he's moved on. In a way, he passed peacefully. He starts to feel alive, even in death.

Hitoki’s EXS is the EXS of Fractured Disorder "Entropy." It allows him to morph Nodoka’s hair into many shapes, move it around, and even tear parts of it and utilize it as a means to walk freely and attach back to normal, similar to Merkava's ability. He likes to mimic Nodoka’s body and motions this way, as well as tease her. The way he teases her is completely up to your imagination. He is the only Parasite Void that can shapeshift due to this EXS ability. Before the influence of Nodoka, he had no notable physical strengths, as his EXS ability needs to use a host in order to utilize it properly. Hitoki was also not remarkably strong due to this, and his only strengths were his wits and mental awareness, and the ability to absorb things as all Parasite Voids do. Hitoki was essentially lacking in physical strength. Despite him only needing to eat living foods like plants, seafood, or small organisms in his current state, he indulges plenty on human food, especially fast food, simply because the texture makes him feel human. Yet, he still eats inhuman things like plastic...and...paper...and glass--Where does he get ANY of this!?

Relationships
"Humans are so disgusting and filthy. Yet, I am drawn to them. I hate that she's making me care about others...Bah! Sickening."

"MY HOST NOT YOURS GO FIND YOUR OWN FOOL"

"Hurt her and I will find and kill you, no matter what. Your pitiful life will be short lived."

She is Hitoki's beloved host; an utterly perfect, flawless demonstration of his favorite aspects of the human realm. His beautiful, attractive, sweet, god-awfully adorable, charming, hot, sexy...I think Hitoki has some issues he needs to admit to Nodoka.

He is extremely protective and EXTREMELY loving towards Nodoka, more than anything else on this Earth. Her sympathy towards him and willingness to die for him (though, both would die in the process regardless,) motivated him to find out how to co-exist with the other out of intrigue of human nature. He started off interested in her day to day life as an ulterior motive, and still is to this day, albeit more genuinely. He believes their meeting was fate for him, and he is admittedly excited to be with her everyday, he supposes. He has undying loyalty towards her, and would tire himself if it was for her survival. He is usually only at his most vulnerable to her, and her kindness has given him a sense of humanity. So much so, that he (to his dismay) finds value in all living life. Hitoki and Nodoka together create an entire life cycle.

However, they weren't always on the right foot. Hitoki, confused at human life, would do harmful actions towards Nodoka, just to see how she would react in the situations when they first began to co-exist. He'd just push her limits or say cruel things to witness the extent of her reactive reflexes. Nodoka taught him his lesson and consequences eventually, albeit feeling bad executing it. This would lead into Hitoki's desire to protect the life she possessed, and realizing there is more to life than hurt and pain. Freedom and consequences are also present in humanity.

he like when she feed him snackie and chip and pet him and let him play angry bird :) and her kissy kisses :)

...complicated for a bit

"I know what you're doing, taking advantage of her because you see my power...You're sick and obsessed with strength. Get a new hobby. She's a normal human, bastard. Perhaps die while you do all that, for me."

...Well, what could I possibly say. They are a rocky pair, until both of them learn to calm down and open up. He knows how he desires to fight with Nodoka and to see the power of a human that has "tamed the darkness," and resented him deeply for it; he saw him as another burden Nodoka didn't need. They learn to like each other's company and form a strange trio. Besides, Hitoki has thought about his big arms...and giant chest...and how he IS capable of caring. Hitoki really likes to overthink things about others and proceed to be in denial, huh.

co-worker?

"Gyahhh! She pisses me off! A complete and utter bitch! She's a snake and pretends she's not! Whatever, her foolish mind just doesn't realize that I'm beyond her!"

Luna and Hitoki constantly fight over who is the true face of the cafe, and who is the better worker. Hitoki thought fighting her was pathetic at first, given he doesn't necessarily care how the customers percieve him, but the more Luna brags and tries to get into his head, Hitoki cracks and his superiority complex comes out. They eventually set aside their differences and agree to disagree. Hitoki is aware Luna is trying to grow out of her tendencies and constantly begs for forgiveness after probably conning a customer, but Hitoki doesn't really care, honestly. Don't put cats and bunnies together, kids.

Hitoki would rather drown and die before saying this to Luna directly, but Hitoki does sort of care about her and supposes that she is a unique type of fun. If both of them aren't being mean towards each other, they possibly might hang out. May the Lord save Nodoka's soul when they do...

genuine and full fear

"I JUST SAW THINGS I DIDN'T WANT TO SEE NODOKA I THINK SHE SHOULD STAY DEAD"

Hitoki learns Nodoka's mother is a mad scientist, and that her experiments on Voids were unsavory. Seeing the transmutation documents sicknened him to a nauseating degree. Noriko also burned a hole into him so uh yeah congrats to noriko for being the first person to make hitoki genuinely afraid of something and someone.

"I don't like humans as much as you're making it seem! Go to hell! Die!" (blush, blush)

While they have a solidarity as Parasite Voids, Hitoki and Furumaki's feelings on the human realm are different. Some of Furumaki's feelings makes Hitoki extremely angry, but tries to keep it down because he is well aware that some Voids don't desire humanity. The keyword is tries. Nodoka's influence is proving good on him. For some reason, even though Furumaki isn't someone he necessarily cares about (he is lying, he cares about all the parasites,) he feels compelled to convince her that while human life is...unoptimal, it has aspects that is comforting, he supposes. "This is Nodoka's fault! Damn her! She has to take responsibility for these feelings!" he shouts into the sleeve raised above his mouth, all with a blush formed on his face.

"You're actually fucking kidding me..."

Like any upstanding person would, Hitoki doesn't like Nao. Hitoki already has low patience and is stubborn with others that aren't Nodoka. Godspeed, Nao!

"She...ugh. She's annoying, but I guess she's not objectively bad. Her feelings and opinions are easy to understand. But, stop saying I'm a human lover! A good chunk of them get on my nerves!" (blush blush)

Excluding their similarities as Parasite Voids, Hitoki and Wakadori get along fine, though Wakadori's easily excitable and demanding attitude as well as her noble and oblivious mannerisms get to him. While Furumaki and Hitoki also get along fine and arguably share more in common, Hitoki favoritizes her more due to her attempting to find the charm of human life and genuinely wanting to seize the chance of having humanity without any questions. It is a nice break from Furumaki's complex monologues and makes his efforts feel not in vain. Hitoki won't say it in front of her face, but he is proud of her.

Wakadori should also stop prodding at his life. He doesn't like the human realm! Just some things, and some people! Maybe.

He also hates to admit this, but he tends to get upset and jealous that Wakadori found value in life faster than him.

"Gahh...something about this guy. Why does he just stand like that and stare! He's too quiet and strange, and when he talks he's too sensible! So annoying."

Out of all the old men, Hitoki and Ouka have a strange tension and are the least close, though this tension is not hostile. Realistically, none of them dislike each other, in fact, Ouka is completely okay with considering Hitoki a friend and only feels territorial and defensive at any brazen remarks Hitoki chooses to make. Hitoki, however, perpetually feels like Ouka does what he does solely to mock his intellect. He hates to admit it, but when it comes to several skills, Ouka beats Hitoki to an embarrassing degree, and Hitoki has to feel superior over that. Really, Ouka is just autistic, he means no harm. Hitoki considers him as someone he is flatly neutral on, but it's incredibly easy to tell Hitoki and Ouka are friends and Hitoki is just lying to look hard.

"Ugh. So much energy, and way too curious about things. A bit crazy too, and stares too damn much! She's at least better to talk with than her little boytoy, and more lively to be around, I suppose. I'll give credit where it's due...bah!"

Hitoki has similar feelings for Hime as he does for Ouka to an extent. Given Hime has more animal like instincts, Hime tends to be playfully dominant and excitable and thinks Hitoki is among what she considers the most interesting Voids. Hitoki takes her playfulness and drive to always hang out as something that's just superficial sometimes, but overall is aware that Hime is just the way she is. A loopy, playful, yet dominant woman. Hitoki considers her the more approachable of the two and will interact with her more than Ouka on average. When these two are bored, they likely will do something together. She should stop staring at Hitoki though, it's terrifying!

neutral, fear

"T-This guy...His host doesn't make him any less creepy...I don't know why he just gravitated to me like that, with all those puny insects. There really is no God. At least he's doing fine now, I guess. Bah..."

While Hitoki will put up a relatively welcoming front towards Laos (especially after realizing he is more prone to getting emotional than what his appearance shows,) Hitoki is undeniably creeped out by his actions and can't help feeling such a way, even more so with Ruru in his life. He is still confused as to how he caught Laos's eye, but at least the initial meeting is over now. He no longer has to deal with messing with dead bugs, thank God. Hitoki is...alright with Laos, though.

"Gahh! Telling me to do this and that...I'm already at my peak, you fool!"

Hitoki hates being schooled by Kougami about his attitude, but deep down he knows it's true and that it is a lot of similar stuff that Nodoka also regurgitates, so he keeps him around...for now. Hitoki says he's "neutral" with him, but really, Kougami is a guy that Hitoki can just grab a bite to eat with...and talk about the girls they like, swearing, SWEARING the feelings aren't overly clingy and it's just a normal amount of love.
