She is unfathomable. As only a pure human, she knows the dangers of the Night. Yet, through her sympathy alone, the fragile maiden trudges through to give humanity to these so called beastly monsters. Her hardships resonate deep in her mind, as a reminder to mend the hurt. Hosting only a tiny fraction of the Void, the delicate maiden knows now that her goals shall not be achieved alone. So, her journey begins.

Personality
"Ah! Uhm, I'm really not all that special...I'm just here to help."

Nodoka is a typical goody-two-shoes girl, and believes there is good in all things, even darkness, but won't hesitate to get rid of any relentless evil. She sometimes stutters due to her nervousness and tries to avoid any type of conflict if possible. However, deep down in her heart reveals an almost naturally adaptive woman dedicated to her craft in research, willing to accept the unnatural much like her mother, who she (used to) greatly admire. Her dedication and ambitious nature makes her prone to biting off more than she can chew, and can quickly become a stressed workaholic if she subconsciously pushes herself too hard. Though she tries to appear as an ordinary woman with ordinary hobbies fitting of her character, Nodoka, by all means, is quite extraordinary and bizarre in comparison. Expected, given she is the daughter of a supernatural scientist. When she is worn out, she isn't super stubborn and will always admit when she needs help and is at the end of her rope. However, she is very bad at recognizing early signs of when her fatigue is going to hit. She never realizes when to stop being the doormat of other people, and she is incredibly prone to falling back into old behaviors. She can also grasp complex emotions easily and sympathizes with those experiencing them, yet can be oblivious to more obvious feelings and emotions, traits in which her father held.

She can get quite metaphorical, somewhat motor-mouthed, and even scientifically literal much like her mother, but is ultimately empathetic and supportive through her words, like her father. She also excudes a mentor/teacher-like style, with how much she helps and supports the Voids into their new lifestyle. It's these traits that makes Hitoki warm up to not only her (she is quote on quote, a human that's at his level of intelligence and wisdom. yeah ok hitoki.) but the potential that all humans have. While incredibly nice and even accepting to a fault to a point that leaves her drained, she has her buttons and is prone to moments of depression. Her biggest flaw and detriment, in fact, is how she lets the tragedies linger and fester into internalized sadness and rarely talks it out with others. Although her sweetness is genuine, Nodoka has masked for so long that she is freaked out by anyone that is intentionally weird. This can make her appear very off when interacting with people like Ruru, Laos, Cerise, and the list goes on.

She typically does not show her other sides aside from her workaholic tendencies and her acts as a good samaritan, and can come off as mysterious, but ultimately extremely plain on the surface to an outsider. She believes that such traits are more important to show than her small quirks and desires, which she is too shy to let out. Somewhat like her mother, Nodoka tends to sway away from items or thoughts of luxury (if her obsession of coupons and clearances didn't show it already,) out of fear of selfishness, rather than believing she doesn't deserve it. She doesn't have the confidence to speak up about her own wants and desires, putting people before her own self. Deep down in her heart, she knows that she wants to be able to seamlessly switch between a life of work and a life of free time as she so chooses, instead of putting her workload in front of everything. Her secret desire is to develop her "cute and appealing traits," believing she has none compared to the other heroines, and to give in to a life of nothing but pudding and felines. She also desires to gain more confidence of showing her unashamed love for topics she thinks are immeasurably cute, instead of getting flustered and hiding it. She also has the incredibly specific desire to "become a haul girl with her new friends." shes literally so wife material how does she not realize she already is the definition of cute in the dictionary.

she also is probably the only one that does taxes and tax returns in under night therefore making her the strongest character out of the cast

Don't bother her while she's working at the cafe by the way Nodoka is NOT the empathetic soul I'm describing her as she will literally grab you by the collar and beat your ass

Intelligence
Charisma
Confidence
Humour

  • When I first created Nodoka, I originally intended for her role to be a navigator character for Under Night. Not like how Vatista is but like a really comical "do this tutorial so youll suck less ^_^" and bad end arcade type. She's basically an ascended joke character with how much I developed her.
  • Based off Death and the Maiden.
  • Her favorite foods are pudding and yellowtail. she is a very nice girl but she'd probably kill a family of 3 if it meant she got a 2 dollar off deal off some pudding
  • The cafe she works in is a high quality cafe revered for its crepes and mille-feuille, hence why she is able to afford Hitoki's expenses. It's name is Pekopeko Chouchou, or The Hungry Butterfly.
  • This will literally come to no one's surprise but yes, she likes big men. Like, real big men. She likes em old, too.
  • She likes bathhouses and hibachi grills, but only if she is alone. She also has a tendency to shop a lot, but this trait only seemed to occur more as she became friends with the heroines.
  • She likes horror and suspense movies.
  • She has an IQ of 130. She never even mentions this ever hell she forgets constantly that her iq is this high because she forgot she even TOOK the test.
  • She has always been a bear hugger since she was little. In her sleep, she grabs the nearest thing and holds it tight throughout the night. Her grip strength is unknown, but it's likely more than Nodoka lets on.
  • She is the youngest of the Sado Girls.
  • Nodoka's blinding bangs are because of an incident at college. Her eyes are beady, baggy and emotionless. Probably due to a lack of proper sleep time.
  • Her Master's degree is for Psychology. She has dabbled into Biology and Rehabilitation Therapy as well. It's a shame her living is food service.
  • She has a high tolerance to raw EXS despite being a normal human. The reason for this is unknown, but it likely traces to her mother.
  • She has been in exactly one commercial for the cafe she works at. Her singing is quite angelic (but she's so quiet...how unfortunate!)
  • She loves cats, but they don't seem to feel the same way. She has a few cat scratch scars that haven't faded yet.
  • While domesticated cats absolutely hate her and will give her a nice trip to the ER, wild cats absolutely love her. That includes the bigger cats as well.
  • ^ She has an entire character arc about this by the way. Literally all because she finds an abandoned box of bobcat kittens. She fell in love with one of them and named it Kurumi. speedran a damn permit to own the thing god she is the best
  • Her other favorite animal outside of the very obvious, is dragons. They're not even real. How cute.
  • Before Nodoka was even "Nodoka," I wanted to name her after Toyotama-hime, but that felt too excessive and not plain.
  • She falls asleep extremely easy if she rocks back and forth too much. She's had this since she was a wee baby.
  • She has delayed pain responses and is TERRIBLE at eye contact #AUTISM
  • Even without the bangs, Nodoka's eyesight is terrible. She bumps into a lot of things...
  • She subconsciously remembers some fighting techniques from her father, which is why she can somewhat hold her own by herself in life or death situations. I bet you can't guess which area hits hardest. i bet
  • Her hobbies are: Stacking cans, taking pictures of stray cats (and getting scratched,) trying not to step on sidewalk cracks, browsing Wikipedia endlessly, fishing, and finding clearance deals, typically on household items for some reason. Yeah this one isn't exciting as all the others.
  • Hobbies she wants to indulge in is: buying pudding merchandise of Mr. Torori, finding cute button up skirts, sing jazz, buying and collecting miniatures, finding toys for Kurumi, learn the clarinet, and baking the perfect macarons to put in a perfect pudding a la mode.
  • If there is a bug in the house nodoka is not killing that shit and she is making YOU do it. she will FORCE you and you will have no choice.
  • whether her ten pounder is out or theres small bike shorts underneath her loincloth is a mystery. if nodoka wants her ass out though who are we to stop her. slay girl
  • oh my god she's so adorable i love country girls

Background
"Uhm...Even if this doesn't work on her, I'm at least happy to know I gave you a life, Hitoki. Maybe we can try to help all Voids?"

Appearance

lol just look at her pictures

Backstory

Nodoka is the daughter of Noriko, a researcher and scientist of Sado Island Lab Watch Committee. It is a laboratory that researches the Hollow Night and Voids extensively, as well as their activity. Nodoka desired to follow her footsteps since she was a young girl. She is present for a Void outbreak in the laboratory, killing her dad when she was only the age of 11. It only fueled her desire to "fix everything," unaware of the moral ambiguity this statement holds.

She heads to a college in Sado (i dont think sado has any colleges but uhm pretend okay this is a fictional world) and meets her dorm mates, Aoki, Hina, and Tomoe. She studied here for a couple of years, growing close with Aoki and Tomoe, but avoiding her childhood friend Hina. Eventually, her mother got relocated to the Kanzakai Lab Committee due to criminal investigations in the Sado subsidiary. She left suddenly with no warning, and finished her Master's studies at a Kanzakai community college. As she comes back home to celebrate after a quick store run, she runs into her comatose mother after a Void attack from the Night coming home. Breaking into tears, she brings her mother to a hospital. Told by the hospitals that she appears to be fine and disclosing it as some sort of chronic disorder, Nodoka takes her back into their basement, preserving and taking care of her body as she attempts to figure out why she didn't go through the transformation process. Postponing her future, she becomes a cafe worker to provide for herself and to keep her mother’s body from dying. During this time, she becomes acquainted with her coworkers, her most important being Kanon Enomoto, a food service extraordinaire. She also makes a vague acquaintance with certain man rumored to be the strongest martial artist in the world, feared for his immense strength through an accidental crossing of paths. (read: Nodoka is clumsy and bumped into him and fell.)

On her way home from work two weeks after, Nodoka catches herself in a Suddenly Appearing Hollow Night, left alone to fend for herself. During this, a Parasite Void latches onto her head to absorb her brain power. However, since there is no direct biting (rather, none at all whatsoever,) Nodoka stays human and somehow uncorrupted. However, she passes out and finds herself in a random inn when she wakes up. The Void, Hitoki, stayed latched to her head after the Night was well over. He panics, going through every stage of grief in the span of a few minutes. She discovers that he can talk through telepathy, which scares her at first; however, she gets used to it within the hour. After realizing that they will both inevitably die due to Hitoki's lack of foresight, Nodoka is relatively calm and accepting, instead of repulsed by the Void, stating, "I'm at least happy I could provide for you, I think? These things really do happen in life, huh..." To his dismay, Hitoki is touched by her selfless act and causes his intrigue on his host to grow. Hitoki, with a change of heart, tells her that in order to live, they must find a way to co-exist within roughly two days in human time. The next day, Hitoki discovers human food and what EXS it holds. Hitoki experiences his first human emotion: desire. With this, Nodoka recollects a common practice within the Lab Committee. With that said, Hitoki now manifests in her hair, eating living food and thriving off of the EXS stored in her long locks. (She always has to wash her hair now...Ah well.)

As they get used to day to day life together, Nodoka's research about Voids and the Hollow Night heighten. She learns many things in the process, such as human-to-void experiments, and her mother's less savory side. Nodoka also discovers notes about the Curse Commandment and other items of the Hollow Night, and wants to obtain these items to save her mother and possibly many other voids. Hitoki, with his now undying loyalty, volunteers to be her offense and strength, but highlights the risk of infiltrating "the filthy In-Birth factions." Thus, Nodoka and Hitoki dedicate their time to studying every faction's moving patterns and prepare themselves for their mental and physical journey into the Hollow Night's interworkings, and to recover Voids with humanity.

She has become the antithesis to her mother, believing there is humanity in Voids and loves them for being "apart of our world," and would do anything to be an ambassador for Voids rather than eradicate them. Though she knows some are beyond saving, she will do everything to save those that absolutely have the chance to be saved. She believes a Void unchanged in functionality and identity but changed in character is the most important element of recovering them, and will keep this ideal until the day she rests.

Relationships
"It's nice to not be alone. O-Or something like that."

hitoki_icon.png

uhm.

"You mean so much to me. There's no way I could ever want to separate from you, I promise. You're not a burden..."

Nodoka's Void that she hosts, and er uh...they're close.

Regardless, Hitoki's undying loyalty and Nodoka's natural care towards him render them inseperable. They love each other dearly. Nodoka loves every part of him, even his past he has long forgotten, to Hitoki's dismay. Even though Hitoki doesn't realize it, she is always thinking of him as much as he does with her. Once they get super close, Nodoka tends to take some cues out of his book and tease him back. Sometimes even in an oddly flirtatious way, though she gets embarrassed quickly afterwards.

"He's so pouty and stubborn, but those are his cutest parts...He's also too easy to spoil, he pretends to not like it but I know that he does. Oh, and he can be so funny! I like going out with him, too, he always wants to go places with me which is a nice change of pace. He's changed my entire life for the better, I don't know what I'd do if he'd leave my side. He's one of the only people to really care about me this much, I miss this feeling. It's ironic, given..."

When they first started co-existing together, Hitoki didn't start out too loyal, however. He'd always invade her privacy and randomly do physically harming things, claiming that they're only aligned out of his own intrigue and nothing else. Nodoka taught him his lesson after giving him the benefit of the doubt too much. Hitoki is now very aware that Nodoka can be dangerous herself.

nodoka also can be physical towards him a lot esp if he's #kitty and squeezes him so hard he feels like hes experiencing suffocation sometimes but thats ok hitoki feels wanted. she really needs to stop squeezing him alive like toothpaste he's gonna explode and theyll both die. god tbh i need something like this so bad

close.

"I like your company..." (H-How do I talk to someone who doesn't really talk as someone who also doesn't talk?)

Meeting on pure accident, the Sin Slaying Beast himself and an ordinary woman seem like an unlikely duo, but Nodoka's passiveness and caring attitude shuts down some of Enkidu's stubborness, making the two grow close. Enkidu also appreciates having someone grounded in normalcy in his life, he's just not too good at expressing it sometimes. What im trying to say is that theyre fucking.

co-worker

"T-Too precious and cute to blackmail? Radiates too much healing energy to target? W-What does that mean? Also, blackmailing is bad, don't do that to anyone!"

Luna loves to target those she feels she can benefit from and can contribute to her materialistic desires, all while getting free validation. While Luna has conned sympathy and money from unsuspecting customers and even some within the Void bubble, Luna cannot bring herself whatsoever to use Nodoka for her own gain. Luna says she is way too nonthreatening, clumsy, precious, and even a source of healing in the cafe to steal from. Aside from scamming folks and poking fun at Hitoki and Kanon, Nodoka is her main source of calmness and genuinely does like to collaborate with her on some of the workload, and is the only one Luna has opened up to about her internal struggles. If anyone tried bothering Nodoka, Luna will defend her. Nodoka, being the one that helped Luna get a spot at the cafe, is obviously very supportive of her, almost naively supportive, but does have to put her down a few pegs every now and again. They are good friends.

13448577?1650936650

conflicting

"I...Uhm...I don't-" (Oh dear, she's not listening! H-Help meee!)

Unlike Nao's feelings on Nodoka, Nodoka is perpetually confused by her actions and feels bad for getting so annoyed at her. But she's just so impulsive and awful!

13494306?1650038774

okay

"Oh dear...your situation is awful, isn't it? I'm here to help you, okay?"

Nothing too phenomenal, but they get along okay enough. Nodoka is supportive of Furumaki. She is mortified by her mother's involvement in the experiment she was apart of.

13702204?1650088290

friends

(A-Ah, she found humanity in herself alone faster than Hitoki. I'm kind of jealous...!)

Nothing too noteworthy, but they are friends and support each other (mostly with promises of food.) Wakadori can be too high, noble, and somewhat demanding due to her lineage, but she is genuinely caring and ditzy along with those traits, and Nodoka does genuinely appreciate how she is. Wakadori has also helped Nodoka with some of the remanifestations.

16167654?1652938412

...friends? maybe? who knows?

(KYAH! G-GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME! THAT'S THE BIG GROSS FROG! N-NO, I-IT'S GONNA GET ON ME, PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE...!)

Nodoka tries. She really tries to give Ruru a chance, but Nodoka really can't take it. She actively is afraid whenever Ruru is in the same VICINITY as her. If Nodoka weren't scared to death of creatures that aren't conveniently cute, Ruru would have the opportunity of being more close with her, but her fear trumps all. Even then, Ruru is a bit too determined to be close friends with her, and shows in such an odd way that just Ruru simply being nice scares her more. Nodoka really thinks she killed someone in a past life. She ultimately does respect her though and cares about her deeply, jus really far away from her. She will stomach being around her. as long as Tsujino or Aoki are around.

When Ruru is down to Earth with Nodoka though, Nodoka learns to appreciate Ruru's other sides, and does ultimately consider her a friend. She...just avoids the creepy topics.

Ruru is also the only person that makes Nodoka slip out a swear word on accident, she really doesn't want to see Lilith...or Tsukumo...or Hisui...or Triangle...or

13458455?1650333398

mother

"Oh, mother...I know what you were trying to do, but I just...there were many other ways, and yet...you chose..."

Noriko was a caring and loving mother towards Nodoka. When she was born, Noriko was the most escatic and was excited to have the gift of bringing life to the world. Despite this, she wasn't the best at being the most empathetic and emotionally touched person at first, prioritizing Nodoka's brain growth instead and seemed to be a bit more distant compared to Jubei due to her job. Of course, none of this was intentional and she constantly was worried if Nodoka didn't love her as much as Jubei, she just finds it hard to find the right words for anything, no matter the amount of research and preparation. With Jubei's support and his hard hitting death, Noriko opened up herself and learned to stop thinking way too hard when taking care of Nodoka. She became more emotionally connected with her, and very caring towards her (probably a bit too smothering though,) and Nodoka began to idolize her more. As Nodoka grew up, their relationship became extremely casual, and they were exceptionally close to talk about anything that came to mind. Nodoka loves her dearly and was broken seeing her unconscious and passed out in their house. While she lost her father undeniably, she had faith she can bring her mother back. However, she'd learn the damage Noriko caused during her time in the Lab Committee.

Even knowing all her participation in her inhuman experiments, Nodoka still does love her and understands her intentions; they just shouldn't have been so extreme. Nodoka no longer idolizes her as anything else beyond a mother.

49921737_3Tn.png

father

"Daddy...Hehe. He always made me laugh and knew how to make me talk. He was so gentle to me. I wonder what he'd think of me now...Would he be proud? Would he hug me like he used to? I really...miss you...I miss you everytime I wake up."

Her beloved father. The reason why she always tries to be the kindest woman that she can, but also the reason why sometimes Nodoka simply doesn't want to continue on with life. No one understood her oddities and was able to maneuver and work with them like Jubei did. Nodoka was Jubei's number 1, and Jubei was her's. Though Jubei was a bit of a clumsy father, a few seconds left unsupervised means nothing in the grand scope of how much Jubei believed in her, and how much he valued her emotions and growth, and always wanting Nodoka to be Nodoka. Nodoka deals with bouts of depression since losing him, not even Noriko's comatose state broke her this bad.

Nodoka, like with her mother, takes a bunch of her father's character traits as well. She tended to copy him a lot when she was young, and some traits definitely came to stay. The pudding addiction, the vague combat skills, the insane grip strength, the gentleness...ah, right, and the loincloth and breasts too.

16912743?1657173730

close friend, "rival"

"Tsujino is sooo so sweet, just like an apple, and she's so smart. Hehe. We have a lot in common. ♡ I hope we can talk more. (Thank you God, for giving me someone normal...!)"

When Tsujino finally had the courage to (gasps) go outside and reach out to Nodoka and her growing cast of Voids, Nodoka was surprised to see that she was quite normal all things considered, and only just neurotic. They both are motor mouthed "scientists," so they could go on for hours...and hours...ahh, someone please stop them! Or not...they do look the happiest they've ever been. Tsujino is someone Nodoka consistently hangs out with; they really do love each other after Tsujino opens up. Nodoka and Tsujino tend to shop together, finding solace in not understanding how to be "cute." They also take care of the litter Kurumi was apart of together.

Despite this, something about Tsujino does feel a bit off whenever they talk about Void related matters. Nodoka isn't sure how to confront it, but she should eventually. She cares too much about Tsujino and wants to make sure she doesn't lose herself...

16082207?1652512687

old friend

"Aoki is so nice, even with her easygoing attitude, she's always so sweet to quiet people like me. I suppose she's let me into her growing 'family', hehe."

Old dormmates back in Sado. They are the closest out of the 4 Sado Girls (probably because aoki has main character status lmfao) and they will always love each other greatly, even if the two are more close to others nowadays. Both were equally as heartbroken once Nodoka mysteriously left Sado to go to Kanzakai, and they couldn't be more happier to reunite.

Aoki is quite worried about Nodoka's workaholic attitude that she's established, and wants her to relax and go fishing with her, just like the old days. Even if Aoki is learning Void related information slowly day by day, she will always be down to help and encourages her talk anything out should she need to...It's bad to bottle things up, Aoki says. Aoki has some attachment issues to the younger Nodoka she is more accustomed to.

52249097_v7E.png

aunt

"Auntie...I'm glad I can least have you!"

Akiha doesn't make the pain of losing her beloved mother and father go away...but it calms her down. She is glad she's here, and not off the deep end. She's a bit too quirky though, and kind of annoying; it's probably the main thing that makes her realize she could never replace her parents, good God. Nodoka...tries to keep it to small talk.

17531169?1660559014

"s-so cuuute! kurumiii!"

"Kurumiii...ahhh...so cuuuute! My little Kurumiii...So so so cute! I love youuu so so muchh, hehe. We can play as much as you want, and then we can sleep under the kotatsu when you get sleepy...meow ♡"

Found abandoned in the rain, Nodoka took care of the litter of bobcats left in it with Tsujino. Nodoka is used to hostility from domesticated cats, sporting scratches so bad she would have to occasionally get stitches. Felines from the wild however...seem to be completely different, and are drawn to their energy since they are more active and rowdy. The bobcat litter was no slouch showing this, being loving and attached to Nodoka, much to her surprise (and ensuing excitement.) Out of all of them, Kurumi was the most attached, and Nodoka fell deeply in love. Someone please do a mental health check on Hitoki, he has some competition!

While she kept her ownership of Kurumi a secret, since she was technically illegally in possession of him, she eventually gets caught red handed and faces the consequence of having him taken away. Nodoka's heart was broken, but knew that it was the right thing to do, apologizing for her selfishness. Despite such, Ruru promises that as long as she puts the work into getting a permit or license of some sort, Kurumi can reunite with her again. Of course Nodoka had stood up doing all nighters to get it as fast as possible! Kurumi is now a permanent resident of her home, and she couldn't be more than happy to say that.

Playing with Kurumi shows a different, vulnerable, and extremely adorable side of Nodoka that she tries to keep under control and hidden in favor of her constant work and job. She has gotten caught many times saying the most embarrassing and cringiest things to Kurumi, but everyone agrees that Nodoka is just way too precious in such a state. Nodoka should put herself first more like this.

. .
